I will call my contact in the hwy dept and request. I think there are mobile traffic signs on both the N and S bypass as well as 17 proper. Also- the airport. Has the airport been covered? I can ask security personnel there to make sure flyers are up. A lot of people fly in and out for vacation... someone may have seen Johnny. Also, often people who are not local to an area notice things differently than those who are accustomed to their surroundings.
Can't hurt, I think?

I can't think of a better way to get the information out to the folks on the Bypass than by the mobile traffic signs! Thousands of people drive by them every day. With the flyers on Business 17 and the alerts on Bypass, I'm hoping maybe Johnny himself sees them!!!

I'm not sure about the airport.

Is there some reason why a Silver Alert has still not been issued for him?

I was lucky that Julie gave me OLG's number, which in turn got me in touch with Websleuths and Miss James. It was all very complicated, but messages were received and that's what counts!

I have put together a packet for Julie when she gets here. I have numerous "Buy One-get one free" coupons (from those books you buy from the schools) and I attached directions to each restaurant to the coupon. I included some gift certificates that I purchased that can also be used with the coupons. I have a map where the sightings happened so they can orient themselves and phone numbers that might be helpful to them. By tomorrow I should have some more food gift certificates because some of my friends are going to help out, too.

Wow! You rock! :rocker: People like you are a big reason I love this board so much.

I was reading about the Silver Alert today and I don't see why he wouldn't fall under their criteria. Is this something the family has to do or LE?

My mom has Alzheimers diease, so it was very informative for me as well.

You are an angel to Johnny and his family, and I do not want cost to prevent you from doing what you're doing. I hope this isn't totally inappropriate, but if there's a way I can help a little financially, please post or PM me.

Mods, I will delete this post if necessary. I was going to send this privately, but thought a newbie might not know to check PM. (I didn't for years! :blushing: )

Absolutely not needed, but thank you for the offer. Save your resources, and if someone goes missing in your area, you can help that person! You were very sweet to offer.

Now folks, just where do you think I learned how to do all of this????? FROM WATCHING YOU!!!! I've lurked here for years, so I've learned ways to be helpful in this kind of situation.

You are good teachers...

You guys are doing a fabulous job here, and I am so proud of everyone!!! Peekerfoo, you are a wonderful human being that gives me hope for humanity. Actually, most of the WS's members give me hope. The world can be such a dark, scary place, it is good, comforting, and encouraging to know that there are people who TRULY care about a stranger who needs help. I am in the Augusta, GA area (North Augusta, SC), and I work at a large hospital here. We treat a lot of homeless and indigent people. I think it would be a good idea to go and speak with the ER staff at the local hospitals. If a stranger picked Johnny up, they may not know what to do with him, and just simply drop him off outside of an ER somewhere. It happens a lot in most major cities. It's worth a try.....:twocents:

As I understand, LE would need to initiate the Silver alert. It appears to me that Johnny should qualify.
Has there been any more info regarding whether TES is coming?

Thank you Reannan, but I am NOT that wonderful. I will not venture TOO far into the woods because I am terrified of snakes and spiders. That makes me a bit of a wimp, so I do what I can.
Great thinking about the hospitals! Waccamaw Hospital is just south of here,
I do not know about the Myrtle Beach police, but the Surfside police are all over this. I imagine they have alerted the hospitals. I think that when Julie gets here we will go to the police station and ask about that and the Silver Alert. I have to take my Mom to a Dr. appontment in the morning, but I may even go over to the SPD right after. Julie won't get here until around 6pm, and I'd rather get on it right away.

I will stop by the Surfside Police Dept tomorrow and ask about the Silver Alert.
I don't know about TES,but supposedly, Julie gave all the info needed to CUE, and she was calling back today to verify that Monica received it. I saw what CUE did here when they searched for Alice Donovan and Brittanee Drexel and I am confident that they'll give Johnny the same effort. They are ALL business! Alice was found, but poor Brittanee is still out there somewhere.

I would also encourage making sure there are posters with Johnny's picture in areas close to hospitals that indigent and homeless people might go to. The staff in the hospital might be aware of the missing person, but hospitals like the one I work at, are a central meeting area for LOTS of people who live in the fringe of life. They come to visit, they come to use the bathroom, they come to hope someone gives them a dollar. Hospitals with ER's known for treating indigent, homeless, and the less fortunate in life are surrounded by thousands of people coming and going constantly. It is one of the reasons I love working at a hospital that takes care of these people. For what it is worth, I am looking for Johnny as I walk to work, catch the bus, and move around the hospital in Augusta, Georgia too. I hope tonight is the last night he has to sleep somewhere away from his family.

Will do! You make a lot of sense on why the homeless might be at the hospital and not be there as a patient.

I love that you treat the homeless and indigent with respect. Most people are just one big crisis away from being in their shoes. You made cry when you said you look for him in Augusta. You just never know...

Another thought- the National Guard and Coast Guard? They may be able to help- there is a very strong contingent in the area that can mobilize a search effort quickly. And they have air support, which could be very helpful.

So many amazing people here! You are all angels for doing so much to find Johnny!

Peekerfoo:

I have tried to call Julia a couple of times today, but she hasn't returned my calls. I know she is trying to work and take care of looking for her brother, and I 'm sure she has a lot on her, so I just assumed she was very busy. I'm really glad you have been in contact with her. I live in their hometown and had mentioned to her dad on Mon. that I would possibly be coming to MB either Fri or Sat, and offered to bring others to search in my car if any of the family wanted to ride with me. Do you know when they will be leaving? I'll try to call her again in the morning. I have one trip to make to Atlanta concerning a health issue for myself, then I can be off to MB. If you talk to her b4 I do please let her know. Thanks for all you are doing. You are more than an angel! Nonni

I just heard about this! Oh, we're going to find him!

OK, folks, who will match my $50 donation for a reward for the person whose tip finds Johnny? I'll collect the money myself if that's too much for the family to set up right now, and of course my real contact info is very readily available.

Think about what you'll donate -- fast! I think a reward may be just the push this community needs.

I'll call the local police there to let them know that 'we (generic)' are starting a fund, and I'll take responsibility for that unless something better comes along. Cool? I'll give it a day or so for the family to weigh in, etc.

I really think someone should check out 'the Hill' since the tips have dwindled after Johnny's 'friend' moved there. Maybe that is a trip that the local National Guard would be up to on their off-time? Or does anyone know any cops or tough folk down that way?

I'll try to see if I have a contact that can be in Myrtle Beach. I'm considering going myself, but that's all kinds of complicated immediately. I'm trying to think of what we can do from far away. Donate to a reward, for one!

TES told Julie it would be the 8th or the 9th.
For the SLEd Silver Alert it's not just a matter of qualifying by disability . It's to assist the local LE with resources they may not have or may not have enough of . My best guess is that MBPD doesn't feel there is anything more SLED could do that they aren't already doing .

If there are verified sightings then the very best thing would be publicity so more people know to call LE when he's spotted .It possible to track him from a certain "last known" location , but there is nothing with Johnnys scent in MB right now so no way of starting a SAR dog tracking .

Nonni Brenda got clothing from Johnnys parents to bring to MB when she comes.

I am more and more concerned that there have not been any more recent sightings in that area. Makes me wonder if he accepted a ride somewhere and is trying to get back home.

I don't think anyone harmed him. I am just worried that he is getting further away. Why hasn't he called again? I feel kind of anxious that with all of the renewed interest, he has not popped up again.

I'm also concerned that Johnny hasn't called home since Aug 4th .Recent info from his sister was that he called home several times when he first went missing but nothing since the 4th.
