I've been following this case since the bginning and so hope this man is found.

But, I am starting to doubt that any of the sightings are of him. :(

Most of the suggestions have been done and looked into as we've posted throughout this case.
MBP officers read here so no need for anonymous tips .

I'm waiting to see what the family does next and will follow their lead
.I won't be back to MB unless I can help in some way with Johnny after he's found .I'll leave that up to MBPD.
I haven't heard from Johnnys sister since I called her earlier this week .

Here's what I found out today after speaking with the Surfside and Myrtle Beach police depts.

Silver Alert---I asked both depts if Johnny met the criteria for a Silver Alert and neither knew what I was talking about! MBP did say that they have other programs, but JB didn't qualify for either of them.

Sightings--- MB police said there have been sightings from Georgetown to US501, but nothing has panned out so far.
SPD said that they have had only one sighting since last week.Police spoke with the man. It think it was the same guy I saw last night and he was NOT JB. I knew that guy was too tall....

Flyers---SPD gave me some more flyers and they agreed that I should take them more to the south.

The Police---I have to tell you all that both police departments were extremely compassionate and worried for Johnny Brown. They both spoke with me at length. They are all over this, trust me. The MBP told me that a search group was on the ground here, but when I asked her if it was CUE, she said it was another group, but she didn't know the name of it at that moment.?????They also feel that it's possible Johnny found some way to head back to GA, but how and why isn't he there yet? She said that the liason was meeting with the family right now. Maybe she was confused or maybe they came early?????

I am going to wait for Julie to call me when she gets here. I have offered my help and she knows how to get in touch with me. I'm confused by her telling you that lots of family will be coming here. She told me only four and only two of them would still be here next week.

That's all I've got for now....

Just curious about why you are doubting this now(?)...

BTW- o/t- I like your siggy line- lose and loose are one of my pet peeves. My friend, who has a PhD, always gets this wrong. I tell her whenever you want the word lose, just "lose" the extra 'o' you have put in there and you will have it, lol...

I'm not sure about that but I don't know that Johnny himself was ever seen on surveillance (I'm just going by my recollection, someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

Peekerfoo, who has been doing so much work on this case and is so amazing, I believe was the last one to have reported a sighting (again, from memory) and I believe that would have been 8/24, so much later than the first sightings and only a week ago, today.

Don't forget how long elapsed between the first sightings and the last. I'm not discouraged by that...I think it makes sense that he may be more "settled", for lack of a better word, by now. You know how when a child gets lost they often think "Oh, they've left me and I'll never see them again". If Johnny feels this way he may have stopped trying to find them and just moved on to making it through each day.

But, I am confident, with the family coming back, the publicity, and the police investigating, he will be found.

I think he was on some kind of video because I'm pretty positive that's how Julie knew that he was now wearing jeans.

Happy Birthday!

I have no idea if the man I saw was, in fact, Johnny. I only reported to his family what I saw even though the man I saw had jeans on and not khaki shorts. The cap and the shirt were the same. The man I saw had facial hair. Other people reported seeing him in jeans, too. That's all I know.

If the four family members driving up today could search separately in different directions, it would give more chances for Johnny to be able to see one of them. Then he would hug them tight and never let go again.

They have a liason with the Myrtle Beach Police Dept so hopefully they'll assist them with something like that.

I just called and spoke with Julie, Johnny's sister. They are leaving now for MB, lots of family going. She said they have been talking with CUE, who is already there searching. CUE will be sleeping in the woods with the homeless, in case Johnny shows up there. Ch.13 is waiting for Julie to do an interview with her. It will go out to SC, NC, and Ga. No word about TES. Not sure about them. I have a feeling Johnny is gonna be found this weekend. It would be great if they can bring him back home with them. I told her I will be her home base here in Cartersville, and if she needs anything, dog fed or whatever, to call me. Just wanted to let everyone know what's going on. If I hear from them I will post here. Brenda

Nonni,
I think it's great that you can be the "homebase person". It's a long drive for you to come here and I think between all the agencies they probably have this covered..

By the way, did Julie say how MANY were coming to MB? When I spoke with her yesterday she said only 4. Maybe she rallied some more family members?

Given his disability/lack of communication, I think that someone would have really, really remembered him. And, he would essentially be on the streets. I think that would make him easier to find. :(

I really, really hope I'm wrong.

I didn't question your actions or anyone in particular.

I just think given the amount of time that has passed, if he were still wandering the streets of MB he would have been found.

I really want to believe that he is safe somewhere.

I actually agree with you. I think it would be easier to lose oneself in Myrtle Beach, but not so easy in Surfside. I've been trying to think of the proper way to phrase this without offending anyone, but I'll just put it out there--In Surfside proper the black population is small compared to Myrtle Beach. That's why I think he may have been spotted several times in Surfside.JMO

I think that is a helpful observation, actually. If he were moving South, as many suspect, do you think he would be more, or less, visible, based on your knowledge of the immediate area?

Don't know about Silver Alert, eh?:waitasec:

case the info was overlooked upthread:seeya:

Please check into it, there are resources available to local LE

Re silver alert in SC-

I would say he would be less visible if he made it to say, Georgetown. Garden City and Murrells Inlet--similar to Surfside.

I know you get what I'm saying, but I think I might be able to put it another way so others might understand--

If I was searching for a girl in a town that was mostly made up of males and then narrowed it down to only girls wearing striped shirts and ball caps, and then only girls who are around 5'6" tall 140 lbs, the odds keep getting smaller.

I read all that and that's why I had it on my list of things to ask when I stopped at the PD. Seriously, no one really knew what I was referring to. I would've printed out the info for them, but I had no idea they wouldn't know what I was talking about. Maybe different parts of LE handle those things so they weren't aware at the front office?Edited to add that they did say he was not eligible for one program because he didn't have an alert bracelet of some kind.

Peekerfoo , this may be the program they were speaking of

bbm

http://www.horrycounty.org/ProjectLifesaver/index.asp

Johnny is not enrolled but SURELY they could offer some assistance in some form????

interesting- snipped from above link
Tourism Benefits We have partnered with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and they currently have 10 wristbands available to offer tourists with autistic children during their stay along our coast. This program not only touches those in Horry County, but also reaches over 13 million tourists who vacation in our area every year. So far this year we have had ten visiting families who were Project Lifesaver clients who we made each feel safer and secure.

PS- if you know of special needs persons please share this info with others that might could utilize such a service or see if one similar is available to them else where Thx

When I called the number a poster gave for Silver Alert it turned out to be part of our State Law Enforcement.they had received the info on Johnny but had not received a request to become involved .The woman I spoke with chose her words very carefully .She said MBPD would need to make that request .I asked if the family could insist .They could request but it would be up to MBPD.
Is it possible that they thought you were talking about a program that was not a part of LE?
Shortly after I made that call, Julie told me the MBPO's handling Johnny's case told her I was undermining them .I assumed it was related to the call to SLED/SilverAlert .When I made the call I had no idea the Silver Alert Program was part of Law Enforcement .
I've put up and passed out flyers and Asked people at places where Johnny was believed to be , if they have seen him .For the ones that had , I asked them to call the police and let them know .For those willing to keep an eye out I asked them to call the police or his sister , as she requested,if they saw him .

Not sure what I did to upset the police ,but it won't happen again .

When I got a hotel room last weekend I looked through the local directory for tourists .there is a beautiful full page of information about this program and encourages visitors to take advantage of it .It's part of the Chamber of Commerce .Really great .

There are programs for "wanderers" but maybe they aren't being utilized in this case because Johnny didn't wander away .He was independent enough to walk to Family Kingdom Water Park by himself .

Looking at it from a different angle (not my point of view but worth exploring ) Johnny is a 44 year old man .When he left it was with the family's knowledge .He didn't wander away and he didn't run away .

That might be why all the programs and SAR we would prefer aren't being utilized. Jmo
