From what I understand, his sister said she has never gone missing before.

That's right Katydid23. Julie said that Johnny travels all over Cartersville, either walking or on his bike, and never get lost . He goes to McDonalds by himself, to the other side of town 10-15 blocks away, etc. I dont think he unconsciously wanders off, but always has a destination in mind when he leaves. JMO. but that was a good thought Southsleuth.:)

I felt kind of hopeful today and the weather was beautiful. This sounds silly, but I don't have the "feeling" he's in Surfside anymore. I guess it's a combination of it being such a small town and no sightings, or maybe intuition, but i just don't feel like he's here. I do feel the need to keep going south. I've had this feeling since last week. I feel pulled to go that way (if that makes any sense).

Peekerfoo, thank you for the posters. They should stand out with the yellow neon, for sure. When talking to Julie today she said she has a feeling Johnny might be in 96, SC. or another city she wasn't sure how to pronounce or spell, sounded like Mauglu, or Marlin. I don't know if these cities are N. or S. but they are about 10-15 mi away. Are you familiar with these places?

Also I got some good pics of Blackie, Julie, Rev. and his brother and cousin. They were very excited and believe Johnny would recognize them.
Problem is, I am not very smart when it comes to downloading pics to WS. Don't have a clue. I can download them to my computer, I also can transfer them from my computer to FB. If someone could walk me through it, I believe I could get them to you. Let me know and I will try tonight. Then if you wanted to add them to some posters, you would have them. Thanks.

even if he is a binge drinker, he deserves to be found.

It sounds to me like the speech defect is the primary obvious feature of his delays - the taxi driver couldn't understand him at all and the police managed to figure out the hotel name, but he didn't end up in a drunk tank to sober up.

Respectfully submitted:

Never did I say that someone does not deserve to be found because they are a binge drinker.

I agree with you. I worked with developmentally delayed individuals and some of them did have a speech impediment. Johnny may be higher functioning than we first thought since he does have certain skills, but he would still be classified as special needs because of the speech problem. If he can count money and make change, he's apparently pretty high functioning. I wonder if he is enrolled with the state MHMR center in his home area? It sounds like he has had trainers working with him to teach him these life skills, like counting money, making shopping lists, learning to read... this was what I did for several years, training individuals with skills they wanted to learn so they could be more independent. He could possibly have obtained jobs through the state program as well, or attend a day program where they "work" and earn a little spending money. Most counties in every state have at least one of these MHMR centers, they are pretty easy to find in the phone book.

Also, respectfully submitted:

I am aware that some developmentally delayed individuals have speech impairments. I have bachelor's degrees in special education and speech pathology. I have a master's degree in speech and language pathology and have held national certification from 1986 to the present time. I have worked with children and adults with various speech and/or language disabilites for many years. I have taught college level classes. I have done research in the field of speech and language. I have written articles that have been published in this field. I have supervised others who have also seek this same national certification.

No one here can say that Johnny can be classified as special needs based on his possible speech impairment. No one here has ever spoken with Johnny. While there is no absolute, universal definition of "special needs," I have never heard it applied to an adult with an articulation disorder without a concomitant disability. In regard to children under I.D.E.A., yes, a child with a speech impairment only may be considered someone with a special need, but this situation has nothing to do with I.D.E.A. and Johnny is not a child. Members of WS have gotten very different descriptions of Johnny's abilities at different times. A family member was said that the term "special needs" was emphasized in order to gain more attention in the search for Johnny. I cannot portray someone as a person with special needs if I do not that to be true. I don't think anyone at WS would want to portray someone incorrectly, either. Therefore, I posted yesterday that I would "proceed with caution in any description of Johnny at this time." I stand by that statement.

So he may possibly be around "the Hill" . That really scares me.

This must have been a difficult conversation for you to have with her ,Nonni.

Thank goodness you have the experience from your career to know what to ask and how to listen. I don't know if they understand how lucky they are to have you ,but we sure do:tyou:

Oh, MissJames. You are so sweet to say that. Little did I know when I was working with families with DFACS I would use that experience in this way. I loved my clients, although the parents usually caused a certain degree of frustration for me. I really feel lucky, and blessed to be doing this. I really enjoy it so much. And I could never be working with a better group of people. Thanks again.

NamUs has Johnny's fingerprint information??

While extreme ,it's not outside the realm of possibilities. It was just after Roger was questioned about Johnny that he was kicked out of the motel.

Who took Julie to the hotel? She said it was a black girl who knew which room was Roger's The waitress was white . Roger didn't answer the door that night ( like 2am) but Julie went back the next morning and confronted Roger .
He denied he had seen Johnny ,then Julie asked"isn't your name Roger?" He asked how she knew his name. She told him it was because someone told her they had seen Johnny walking with Roger.
That's when he admitted he had seen Johnny but wasn't with him.

So where does this leave us? Julie knows Johnny better than we do.

If Johnny IS with Roger or someone like him, then we really do need to let MBPD handle it,although I think Peekerfoo's posters are still a good idea.
If only Johnny could see them and call !
MJ, Julie didn't mention anyone taking her there, if she did, the story was going really fast, and I didn't hear it. I believe she just said "we".
I agree about letting LE handle it. I also think Peek's posters are a very good idea. I have pics of blackie and the family if I could figure how to get them on here. If Johnny sees the posters and sees blackie, I'm sure he would come out if he was hiding. I just am not electronically inclined.

Thanks for that information Nonni! I wonder why she mentioned Ninety Six, SC as being a possible place that Johnny could be - other than it being a place where "black people hang out and help each other find work"? Ninety Six is west of Columbia, SC, and actually about 50 miles North West of where I live (North Augusta, SC). That would be a LONG ways inland for Johnny to have traveled, and he would have gone right over I-20, which is how he got from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach. The other place she mentioned "Marlin" - could be Mauldin, SC, but that is even farther inland, all the way up to the upstate of South Carolina near Greenville. I think it is more likely a town called Mullins, which is between Florence and North Myrtle Beach, and only about 50 miles away. I am curious how these two places ended up being a place she thought we should look.

I think Johnny is probably much more functional than we originally thought, and his alcohol addiction may be one of his biggest problems. I saw a message on the 'Helping The Johnny Lamar Brown's Family' facebook page from a lady who said she had worked with Johnny in 1998 at Mudd Jeans in Cartersville, GA. I searched, and Mudd Jeans apparently has a distribution warehouse there, so Johnny had that job at one point. Now, my fear is that Johnny may have overdosed, or is in pretty bad condition from not just alcohol, but possibly new drugs that he has not had prior experience with. I almost feel more desperate to find him now!!! I hope LE has pressured Roger pretty hard!

Reannan, I agree, Johnny could be in some pretty bad shape. The only reason she gave for 96 is that "we" have heard that that town has a lot of "black people" in it and they take others in and help them get on their feet and find jobs. I have no idea where they heard it. The other city, I believe she said it had lots of drugs. I may be wrong. I was trying to catch everything. Next time I need to take stenographer with me LOL. Mudd Jeans is a warehouse, about a mi. from where I live. Julie had said he worked in a warehouse , I believe as a custodian. I'll have to check my notes. That probably was what she was talking about.

I understand .We were foster parents for a total of 17 years .

The parents almost always had a substance abuse issue.

We adopted 4 of our foster children over that time. We already had 3 kids so I have 7 kids spanning 10 years old to 35 years old.

I have a feeling you will be helping this family down the road ,once Johnny's home . Bureaucracy can be difficult to negotiate for anyone.

There is post on Johnny's FB page from a woman who said she worked with Johnny at Mudd Jeans.

I mentioned it when I first saw it ,but we are over 1100 posts now ,so it's easy to miss.

She definitely told me someone took her there and knocked on Roger's door.
It wasn't the waitress ,but it was someone who knew which room Roger was staying in.
Let me tell y'all ,that place was scary in the middle of the day. Julie was extremely brave to go there after midnight. Gives me the heebie jeebies.

I have downloaded pics here ,but someone else could do a better job of explaining the steps.

Oh ,SOR stands for Sexual Offender Registry .

It's great!

So Thursday ,we'll grab OLG ,cuz she's not scared, and we'll plaster posters to our cars and drive through "The Hill" ,honking our horns ,like in a parade !!:fireworks:

Whadda you say? Hmm? We could blast Fabgod's song through our speakers !
:bud:

and yell " Johnny Brown ! Rubypop wants you to come home . Blackie is waiting for you ,Johnny Brown !

Have you been sippin' the cooking sherry, Miss james??????:what:
I've seen the Hill and I am serious, you do not want to be there! They have drive-bys, drug dealers, and all that there. The police station is nearby just for the sake of convenience! They save gas having it so close! You and OLG can go to the Hill and I'll stay here and PRAY:please: for your safety!!!!

Can someone check a little harder? Might be suprised (or not.....)

I don't know how. If someone would give pointers I'll happily do it.

I've always been in awe of WSers who kept up with court dockets ,arrest warrants,inmates,etc....

How do you check to see if someone has a criminal history ?

OLG was game to check it out but I hope I yelled at her enough to skip it. No way. I'm still raising kids who need me.

From the CarolinaLive news article in post # 1

Johnny does have a speech impediment and is difficult to understand. He repeats several phrases including RudyPop, which is what he calls his mother, Blackie, which is his dog's name, and Julie, which is his sister's name.

From the NamUS Missing persons Database located in post #4

Victim walked away from motel on vacation. Family stated he is a special needs person who does have a bad speech impediment and is hard to understand. Family advises that he gets confused easily and is afraid of lightening and thunder. He is also gets upset of persons unknown to him approach him in a fast manner and he does not like to be touched.

Is there a reward for finding Johnny? If not yet, maybe someone suspects there may be one eventually. I could see unsavory people "harboring" Johnny until there is a reward to collect on.
