"He is a fire-arms enthusiast..." don't like hearing that about a man with a missing wife, JMO...

Not sure, but she is the only person listed as owning their home..I'm curious why isn't he supporting his children?
During the dinner Saturday night, Gillespie sensed some tension. Bob McCaffrey received a phone call during the meal that upset his wife.
"We had a nice meal, but they both were upset. His eyes were red," Gillespie said. "We put the dishes in the sink and left."
Here's my thoughts on what may have happened...this is just my opinion.
Bob loses his job and takes a construction job 5 hours away, now I'm assuming he stayed somewhere close to that job. This now throws all the responsiblilty on Gayle who is trying to work, take care of the kids, the bills and everything else around the house. Bob now feels like he's not the bread winner and he's not taking care of his family like he's supposed to...Gayle is making more money and his ego is bruised at this point. Some time during all of this, he comes in contact with another woman who sympathizes with him, consoles him, says all the things he needs to hear. The affair begins. Now when Bob is home he thinks about the other woman more and more...Gayle is stressed out about handling everything but doesn't want to argue about it, Bob keeps things stirred up and the arguments going because this gives him a reason to go see his new love interest and put the blame on Gayle. In his mind he's blaming her for his failures and for pushing him into the arms of another woman. He and his new lover want to be together. On the weekend Gayle disappears, Bob and his lover had already planned to be together, but Gayle invites her relatives over and messes up Bob's plans. He can't leave home when he and lover had planned so lover calls his house because she can't get him on his cell. He lies to Gayle and her relatives about who was on the phone. Gayle already senses something is going on. After relatives leave, Bob is furious at Gayle for screwing up his plans. The kids go to bed, Bob gets Gayle outside to argue, he chokes her and then puts her in his pickup and takes her away. He is so angry and so focused on getting rid of Gayle that he forgets about his kids being at home alone. He gets rid of Gayle then drives to be with his lover.

I agree with most of your hypothesis, beachlvr0810, but I wonder why Bob's new love hasn't beaten a path to the nearest LE station to offer up Bob.
I would think the news that Bob's wife went missing on the very night he stopped by for a middle-of-the-night hoochie-coochie visit might freak me out and make me wonder if Bob had anything to do with Gayle's disappearance. Gosh, could it be? :waitasec::banghead:
For justice's sake, I'm hoping the girlfriend can get over her attachment to this possible wife murderer and put Bob where he needs to be: in jail. MOO. JMHO. MHO. And all that.
unless the lover wanted him all to herself and her hands are dirty too... MOO
I don't know, mamacita. Bob doesn't seem like that much of a catch.
But you may very well be right ...

I wonder who the phone call was from / what it was about??
I feel so badly for her children & family. His route that night made for a vast area to cover, but have there been searches for Ms McCaffrey? Are we waiting for a hiker, logger or hunter to stumble upon remains a year... or ten ... from now?

Very disappointed in the lack of media coverage of Gayle's disappearance.
I know MGM's sister and BIL that have the kids with them. I haven't had contact since this started, but I can tell you ,the sister I know is strong. She's one tough cookie (in a good way) and will not let this fade away. She will not be quiet.
I'm glad she got custody of the kids. She'll do whatever is needed for them.
MGM isn't the only missing wife in the Charleston area ,right now, either. The husband in that case committed suicide as his friends were entering his home and they had also been in NC just prior to her disappearance (Boone).
