A man has been charged with murder in the death of his mother after turning himself into police.


Anderson County deputies and family members found the body of 65-year-old Mary Ann Williams in her bedroom early Christmas morning after not hearing from her for three days.

Coroner Greg Shore said she died from asphyxia.

It is so sad that we are hearing of so many men killing their own mothers right here at Christmas time. Why is it that these family murders happen so often around Thanksgiving and Christmas?

James Williams pled guilty on October 18, 2006, before the Honorable Paul M. Burch to the charge of Murder and Grand Larceny. Judge Burch sentenced Williams to 30 years on the Murder charge and 10 years on the Grand Larceny charge to run concurrently.
