“Yes and no,” the Sheriff said when asked if he would classify this incident as a gang problem. He says the incident was likely a dispute between individuals who knew each other.
“I cannot tell you that you are safe in Beaufort County,” said Sheriff P.J. Tanner.
He says there is a “problem in Beaufort County” that “did not begin” with this incident. BCSO has made 24 arrests on possession of a machine gun; six people are currently under arrest and 18 others are on bond. Tanner described it as “a bond that you could laugh at,” and called for setting better bonds, saying he is “not pointing fingers.” He says the Sheriff’s Office has seen evidence that there is a growing gang activity in the area.
According to the Sheriff, there were “two, possibly three” people in the crowd who “had feuds” with each other, which is believed to have been the cause of the shooting. He says he can confidently say there are at least two people involved in the incident, despite his previous refusal to speak on the suspects. He confirmed that all 20 people who were injured during the shooting suffered gunshot wounds.
The article I just posted also links the press conference.
All I can think after reading that is WTH!?
Up to 700 people were there for a class reunion.
All 20 injured were shot.
Didn't say it was gang related but didn't say it wasn't.
2 or 3 people had feuds with each other..... What the heck happened to just fist fighting and calling it good?
The big one though 24 arrests on possession of a machine gun?? 6 are under arrest and 18 others have bonded out? Again WTH?!
