*Motion Hearing (@ am ET) – SC – Matthew Autry (29) & Shawn David Anderson (35) (July 27, 2018, Socestee; shot, stabbed & burned in car) – for *Zachary Kane Stell (31) arrested (7/1/18), charged (7/30/18), indicted (11/14/18) & arraigned (4/16/20) with 2 counts of murder, 1 count of 1st degree arson, 1 count of possession of drugs & 1 count of unlawful weapons. Held without bond, which was denied on 7/29/18.
Trial was set to begin on 6/15/20 (will run for 1 week). Moved to in July, 2020 but cancelled due to COVID-19.
Had hearing on 9/17. 11/13/18: Bond reduction hearing – denied by Judge. 12/9/18: Court site says “Order/form 4” .
3/1/19 Update: Motion for Bond hearing on 3/19. 3/16/20: Arson charges dismissed. 3/19/19: Bond reduction denied. Next hearing on 5/14. 5/14/19: Bond reduction denied (again). Next bond motion hearing (again) on 11/21/19. 11/21//19: Next bond reduction motion hearing on 3/6/20. 12/17/19: Notice of dismissal for arson & unlawful weapons charges. 3/6/20 Update: Bond reduction denied. Trial starts in July, 2020, but cancelled due to COVID-19.
9/12/20 Update: Motion for bond. Next hearing on 11/2/20.
*Michael Wixted Faile (37) – 9/8/20: Plead guilty. Sentenced to 10 years in prison.
*David Lee Cook (44) – Trial was supposed to start in July, 2020 cancelled due to COVID. No update as of 10/6/20.
*William David Tatum (37) – Trial was supposed to start in July, 2020 cancelled due to COVID. No update as of 10/6/20.
*Jeret Lloyd Cox (29) – No update as of 10/6/20.

A U.S. military veteran orchestrated a plan that ended with two men murdered and their car burned, state prosecutors said.

But, his lawyer said the veteran was the victim—a man who was targeted by one of his co-defendants looking to deflect police attention.

That is how attorneys described the case against Zachary Stell to a jury during opening statements. Tuesday marked the start of Stell’s trial in Horry County on two counts of murder. He faces life in prison. The state also called its first witnesses during the afternoon.
