Charleston Police need your help in locating a missing woman last seen on James Island.

Police are looking for Megan Rich, 41, who was last seen on August 12.

CPD said she may be driving a white 2010 Range Rover SUV with state license tag 7714QJ.

Police have made an arrest related to this case for obstruction of justice and providing false information.
(My first post - hope I did this right and that it counts as MSM.)

Charleston PD makes arrest in missing woman investigation
SBBM
On August 17, CPD executed a search warrant on the home of her youngest child’s father, Brian Curtis Baker (59). [snip] CPD is still considering Rich a missing person. Her car was located Thursday afternoon at a West Ashley apartment complex after being reported by a witness.

Welcome to WS, @RadDadBoy! Thank you for the update. You did a great job with your first post. ;)

appears to be where the car was located. Their FB has a map. Near a lot of woods/water etc.

This is just a few miles up the road from me. The guy posted bail and he is out on bond. He has to wear an ankle monitor and is not allowed to leave the state. I've heard his vehicle and boat have been confiscated and are being processed. Also just about an hour ago there has been a police response by boat in a river not far from his home on James Island. No other info at this time.

I wonder if there was a pending court case between Megan and the father of her youngest child.
Not any that I can see, but there was a case brought against the father by MR in May this year for domestic abuse which was dismissed (I think?) a few days later. This was a month or so after the birth of their child. The father has also filed 2 Notice to Quit (acc. to those documents, they lived together) in the Charleston Public Index against MR: one in May 2022 and another in May 2021.

It's being reported that a body was found today off of Jame Island. Sad. No word on an ID yet.

You're fast. Hoping for the best but it's not looking good. That area is reachable by water (not easily -- tons of oyster beds) from the home of the father of MR's child. It just so happened to be a full moon with a high tide of 6.7' the night she disappeared.

Brian Curtis Baker was arrested the morning of Aug. 18 on the offense. The night before, Charleston police officers raided his two-story home on Old Military Road, neighbors said. Sgt. Beth Wolfsen confirmed a search warrant was executed at the house. Among the items seized were the 59-year-old man’s truck and boat.

Investigators found spots of blood in Baker’s home during Wednesday’s search. Flooring in the kitchen appeared to have been shoddily replaced, the affidavit states, and Baker’s boat was freshly scrubbed.

Baker was armed when police arrested him at the Hotel Bennett on King Street, the affidavit states.

“The gun is for me not you,” he allegedly told officers.

Charleston police executed a search warrant Aug. 17 at Baker’s house, 1682 Old Military Road. Detectives observed a section of kitchen flooring was “haphazardly removed and partially replaced.” Baker’s boat was freshly washed, as was the deck and back stairs of his house, according to the affidavit.

A knife seemed to be missing from its block in the kitchen, the affidavit states. Several areas in the house tested presumptive positive for blood, including the kitchen, the bedroom and bathroom.

Story keeps getting worse. Charleston PD: Body of missing woman found in river, ex committed suicide

I'm sorry for the families. :(

" On Friday, a boater reported what appeared to be human remains in the water near Lighthouse Point. Police searched the area and later found a body in the marsh, which they confirmed Saturday to be Rich."

" Baker was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly before 5:30 p.m. Friday. The incident happened near Refuge Run on James Island. The street is just over a mile away from the Old Military Road address listed in public records as Baker’s residence."

<snipped>

Well I guess he meant it ("The gun is for me not you"). Surely PD took the gun when they arrested him? Anyone know if he would have gotten it back when they released him on $100K bail?

Such a sad situation. I especially hate that their child is now an orphan. RIP Megan.

Indeed, a very sad situation... I knew Megan personally and she did not deserve this. What's even more tragic/horrifying is that she has a son who's maybe 9 or so y.o. with another man. Thankfully, the daughter that her and Brian had together is only 3 or 4 months old and will be spared the memory of having lost her parents. The son, though... I'm praying that he gets the very best psychological help that humanity can offer... and fast.

I think most of us suspected this, but the Coroner has officially released the cause of death as a gunshot wound:

"The Charleston County Coroner’s Office released the cause of death of a woman who was reported missing and then found dead in a marsh on James Island.

Megan Rich, 41, from Summerville, died of a gunshot wound, according to Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide".
