I was thinking about why Roof would not want his psychological testing revealed in his trial.

I think that Roof does not want the jurors to know anything about his mental status because he thinks his reasons for the murder of those 9 innocent people is not because he has some sort of mental problem, but because he feels what he did was for a legitimate cause, that came to a legitimate conclusion. He has an agenda and, for him, it has nothing to do with a cognitive impairment. He might even try to argue his cause in court to the witnesses he will question (if he does represent himself in the next phase of the trial, that is), although I wouldn't think the judge will allow it, IMO. The defense thinks a mental condition might save his life, but Roof wants nothing to do with that; then his "cause" will be meaningless and will be just the ravings of a lunatic.

I agree with this 100%! I think his hate stems from the false belief that African American's are somehow "out to get" people who are white and he's convinced himself that it's true and that someone had to do something about it. He believed black people would retaliate against white people for the horrible crimes he committed and that when they did so, white people would finally "wake up" and understand what he's been trying to tell us. I honestly think he believed that would happen because I think he's probably showing signs of schizophrenia. Despite that, I don't think his behavior can be excused because he still knew that what he planned to do was a crime, he showed absolutely no regard for human life, and he knew the possible consequences. Even if he is delusional enough to believe that all black people are out to destroy the entire white race, he had the option (and an obligation) to refrain from using violence. He wasn't under the control of a delusion or hearing voices telling him him to do what he did. He thought up his own plan and acted it out on his own. He had a choice and he made the wrong one.

I truly believe that Roof doesn't care and doesn't want to hear from the victim's loved ones.
He probably thinks the 9 dead victims and their loved ones are just "collateral damage" to his "cause" and their deaths are justified because his "cause" is more important.

I don't think he cares, either. No matter the verdict, he expects to be incarcerated the rest of his life. Will he let every witness go with no cross examination? Seems quite possible.


Will he have a chance to give his own presentation to the jury? What can he possibly say that would sway them either way? Dylann Roof is quite a case study.
