I'm torn in thinking that 38 witnesses are a bit excessive, but then think: if you had only 2 witnesses per victim it would still be 18, and I feel that is a reasonable amount. Each victim should have a proper amount of witnesses standing for them and telling how their loss has impacted their lives. It is certainly not the prosecutions fault that DR chose to kill 9 people. He would have killed more if he had the chance. So that is his burden to bear: that so many people loved and felt the irreplaceable loss of these victims. And the jury should get a chance to hear them.

Starviego..... I am curious as to why are you so contentious regarding DR? Are you hopeful he will be let free?

There is something very 'off' about this whole case.

You've got a motive that is murky. You've got a suspect with no history of violence or deep-seated racism. You've got a prior bust of the suspect for felony possession of drugs that mysteriously turns into a misdemeanor. You've got witness IDs that aren't quite IDs. You've got very little physical evidence(that I could see). You've got a defense lawyer that isn't doing much defending. You've got a suspect saying on videotape that he can't even remember the crime. You've got a big block of unaccounted for time in the five years between high school and the crime. You've got an untrained gun owner with super marksmanship abilities. You've got a suspect who is doing everything he can to implicate himself.

I for one am smelling a rat<modsnip>in here somewhere.
