As simple and as horrendous as that.

In my opinion we were born with empathy and compassion so I am unable to understand how someone could do this.

I realize that I am not capable of "understanding" such evil and horrendous actions.

In my opinion I will never be able to understand how human beings can do these acts and I believe most of us feel the same way.

If I remember correctly, his attorneys can let him know when/why to object, and it is up to DR whether he heeds their advice.

Only if he asks for it, which it doesn't look like he is, for the most part. He might have gotten some help on the few objections he did make that went in his favor. But the attorney was asking permission to just go ahead and make objections for him anyway (they and the judge must be pulling their hair out!) without asking him.

I wonder if the state of NC has ordered a psych evaluation for the state trial. His utter contempt at even the mere suggestion that he may be mentally ill is so confounding.

So the victim left his handgun lying in plain sight on the front seat of his car. Hmmm....

What caliber was this weapon? Was it tested to see if it had been fired? Was it dusted for prints? Any cop would have HAD to assume it was somehow connected, and would have handled it accordingly. This story stinks.

In my opinion we were born with empathy and compassion so I am unable to understand how someone could do this.

I realize that I am not capable of "understanding" such evil and horrendous actions.

In my opinion I will never be able to understand how human beings can do these acts and I believe most of us feel the same way.

I do believe that some can be born without compassion for others. We have seen cases in the past where the history of the murderer showed at a very young age they were not like other kids their age. They were already hurting children who were young like they were or showed uncontrollable rage at a very young age. At the age of 8 Joseph Duncan was already raping little five year old boys. Although I do believe his mother was an enabler though and his environment allowed his psychopathic traits to grow stronger and stronger. The mental health doctors diagnosed him as untreatable at a very early age.

I also read an article last year about a 9 year old that was already a psychopath even though legally he couldn't be labeled as such until the age of 18.

I certainly believe Roof is a full blown psychopath and they do not have the ability to have emotions/compassion or true feelings for anyone but themselves. Being a psychopath is not considered a mental illness by judicial standards so it wouldn't be a viable defense. He certainly knew what he did was wrong and that is why he fled. Again the psychopath only cares about themselves. They use others as mere tools to gain their own goals even their close family members.

Roof is cold to the bone with no remorse whatsoever and will never feel any remorse. He cant fake what he doesn't feel although some do try to mimic normalcy but only if it gives them an advantage in someway. Even when they try to fake normalcy it comes across as odd and flat with no emotions that other human beings possess.

In DR we are really looking into the face of pure evil who is devoid of all human compassion and kindness. He will continue to believe murdering these totally innocent people was justified. He is like Jodi Arias another psychopath, among so many others, who will always believe Travis deserved what he got. They are really a very frightening kind of murderer and extremely dangerous. They don't break a sweat when carrying out the most heinous acts imaginable. They see it simply as a mission they are going to carryout and complete.

The only good thing about this is he will be given the death penalty for what he has done even if some of the victims family members wants him spared. His crime is just too heinous filled with hateful racism for him to be spared. The jury will listen intently to what the victims families have said but in the end they will weigh his sentence based on all that he did to those who were loving, accepting, and kind to him. By giving him the death penalty they will be sending a strong message to the community and country that murders committed by hate filled racists will not be tolerated and when they do happen the defendant will be given the harshest punishment allowed by law and in SC the DP is the harshest punishment that can be handed down.

Its too bad that so many appeals slow the execution date down. This man has no redeeming value or a reason to be spared. IMO

You are right, Zen, we will never fully understand this kind of evil that murderers and mass murderers do. All I know at the root of it all it seems they are filled with evil and in this case DR was possessed with racial hatred and an obsession to kill those who he didn't even know who were totally innocent wonderful Christian human beings. He knew he would make an infamous name for himself by targeting the most loving and kind AAs in Charleston. I know I will never fully understand evil nor will I ever understand how anyone could have racial hatred in their heart for anyone.

OT: Albany, Georgia and surrounding area counties including ours in southwest Georgia sustained massage damage from 89MPH straight line winds and tornadoes on Monday night-early Tuesday morning, In the south there are many AAs living here along with many whites and other races. It has been so heartwarming but not surprising to see all races working side by side to help those who have no power, heat or have massive trees down in their yards or trees which have fallen on many homes. All races have come together to give much needed hugs and comfort during this trying time. That has always been the relationship all of us here have with each other so DR doing something this horrific to these beautiful people is so foreign to me. All of us pleasantly interact with each other on a daily basis and this is the way its been for as long as I can remember. :heart:
