Ok. If he attempted suicide, then why did he flee to another state?

I don't understand why he he just re-load and shoot?

Good question. If he wanted to die, he could have re-loaded, I would guess, or he could have engaged LE to shoot him. I wonder how long it took LE to arrive after they heard about the incident. I would guess that they burned rubber to get there.

He was only captured the next morning.

"At 10:44 a.m., on the morning after the attack, Roof was captured in a traffic stop in Shelby, North Carolina, approximately 245 miles (394 km) from the shooting scene."

Hi ya'll.

I took a video of the Ravenel this evening. It looks like they exceeded well over the 3,000 they were hoping for.

Please forgive me, my video capabilities suck in a moving vehicle.

If you can make it through the first six minutes, you'll probably get a better idea of the crowd tonight.

DR has a girlfriend?

It has been said that there is a lid for every pot. I don't think that this was the case here -- forgive the OT.

I saw that too, but I was thinking it was in reference to his father's girlfriend?

Scriven says that eventually he and Meek gave Roof his gun back, both because they had “records, and couldn’t possess a firearm,” and because Roof’s girlfriend asked them to. Scriven also confirmed that Roof’s mother also took his gun away at some point, but that somehow he got the weapon back.

I am not sure if that is poorly written or not. Never heard he had a girlfriend. :dunno:

From this AP story:

"The wife and youngest daughter of a pastor who was fatally shot along with eight parishioners were inside the Charleston, South Carolina, church at the time of the shooting.

Jennifer Pinckney and her daughter were in the pastor's study when the shooting happened Wednesday night, the Rev. Norvel Goff, interim pastor of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, told The Associated Press on Sunday night.

They locked the door, hid under the desk and called 911, Goff said.

"It was awful and horrible and unthinkable and evil," he said.

Goff said he himself left the church 20 minutes before the Bible study began that night. He said he had been conducting a quarterly business conference with about 50 church leaders, including the Rev. Pinckney and his wife."

I believe these are selfies taken with a camera with a timer. Not sure if this fact though.

The indoor pictures, yes. The outdoor pictures look to me like they were taken by another person. It would have been hard for him to take those himself.

He ran out of bullets.

He didn't need bullets for that. He could have just stayed there and pointed the gun at police, and they would have taken care of that for him. He was trying to start a race war. He was not finished.

Outrage after Charleston judge tells relatives of murdered churchgoers that the killer's family are VICTIMS... as it is revealed he was once reprimanded for using the n-word in court

There is no evidence that any of his family members have been the victims of anything. The judge's bizarre comments are so far out of line, it's ridiculous. If you believe that any judge would come to the defense of a black suspect's family like that...

Actually there are plenty of death threats against the mass murderer's family, and the news searched out and published their address so they will be easy to find. They are innocent victims, too They don't deserve to die at the hands of some wacko who thinks he's "avenging" someone. Everyone heard the victims in court, do you really think they would want innocent people murdered?

It is the prosecutor's decision on who gets to make a plea deal, not the defendant's. To the best of my knowledge, he can plead guilty to avoid a trial, but that doesn't mean the death penalty is off the table. I don't see the DA going for a plea deal here.

You see how there is a lot of talk already by citizens and the family about forgiveness? The solicitor knows the community, and will probably ask the families what do they wish to do. If they agree to LWOP, the solicitor will go that way. If they want death, he will try it. In the Susan Smith case here, the family wanted the DP, and they went for it, but the jury didn't go for it. I think from what the families and close community (like the church members) are saying, they will not want to kill someone so young.
And just so you know, I think he deserves death, I just don't think it will happen.

I respectfully disagree. While I have no doubt the Solicitor will become close to all of the victims' family members as they ready for trial I do not think LWOP will ever be an option the Solicitor would even consider.

No doubt the Solicitor/DA will admire the families of those who don't want the death penalty imposed but in the end the Solicitor must pick the form of punishment that fits the crime and that is what they will do. There is simply no way the citizens of Charleston and surrounding areas and across our nation will be satisfied with LWOP, rightly so.

This man is not Susan Smith. Women fair much better in death penalty cases and in other cases overall. She should have been sent to death row but of course when the murderer is a white female they are the most likely ones not to receive death even when the evidence, and deeds done, totally supported it.

He murdered nine totally innocent people all in the name of hate. The Solicitor knows the message sent will be far more reaching than the family members involved. They MUST send a strong message to everyone that crimes like this will NOT be tolerated and if done... the harshest punishment under law will be given for such a twisted evil hate filled murderer. He deserves nothing but death and that is what the jurors will hand down. IMO

The Solicitor will affix the death penalty to this case as it should be done.
