Dylann Roof's confession shown to jury at Charleston church shooting trial

"CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Dylann Roof hesitated for about 20 seconds when an FBI agent asked him what he was doing on the night nine black church members were killed during Bible study.

“Uh, I did it,” Roof said in a video recording of the questioning, which was played for the public for first time Friday at his death penalty trial. After waiving his rights and about a minute of small talk, the agents pressed Roof gently - asking him exactly what he did. He paused another 30 seconds or so.

“I killed them,” Roof said. As he talked more, he chuckled and said, “Well, I killed them, I guess.”..."

This is one very hard trial to follow. Very upsetting that these innocent people were just murdered for no reason other than a convenience because they were together in one place.

Yes- a senseless slaughter IMO ( but maybe not to Roof). In my mind he is very misguided, but that's my thought and my opinion. Still, as I have stated before, some people agree with Roof's ideologies. A pity, in my eyes.

What happens next if Dylann Roof is sentenced to death

"...Authorities say Roof confessed to the killings of nine black parishioners at the Mother Emanuel church. His guilt in the trial is effectively unchallenged. An attorney for Roof did not argue with the facts detailed by the federal government Wednesday, and they have offered to plead guilty in exchange for a sentence of life in prison.

Prosecutors have not accepted that offer. Instead, they are still seeking a rare federal death sentence in the case, a decision that has caused unease among some families of the victims. And if Roof is convicted and sentenced to die, it is not clear whether the government would be able to carry out the punishment.

Federal death sentences are extremely rare, and executions are even less common. There are 62 inmates on federal death row, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, a Washington-based nonprofit, compared to nearly 3,000 condemned inmates in states nationwide.

Since the federal death penalty statute was reinstated in 1988 and expanded in 1994, the government has put three inmates to death, all by lethal injection...

Most recently, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to death on federal charges last year for his role in the Boston Marathon bombing. Tsarnaev, the newest addition to the federal death row, is being held at the federal penitentiary in Florence, Colo., according to the Bureau of Prisons. If he is put to death, he will be brought to the U.S. penitentiary in Terre Haute, Ind., where federal death sentences are carried out.,,

Yes- a senseless slaughter IMO ( but maybe not to Roof). In my mind he is very misguided, but that's my thought and my opinion. Still, as I have stated before, some people agree with Roof's ideologies. A pity, in my eyes.

"...Authorities say Roof confessed to the killings of nine black parishioners at the Mother Emanuel church. His guilt in the trial is effectively unchallenged. An attorney for Roof did not argue with the facts detailed by the federal government Wednesday, and they have offered to plead guilty in exchange for a sentence of life in prison.

Prosecutors have not accepted that offer. Instead, they are still seeking a rare federal death sentence in the case, a decision that has caused unease among some families of the victims. And if Roof is convicted and sentenced to die, it is not clear whether the government would be able to carry out the punishment.

Federal death sentences are extremely rare, and executions are even less common. There are 62 inmates on federal death row, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, a Washington-based nonprofit, compared to nearly 3,000 condemned inmates in states nationwide.

Since the federal death penalty statute was reinstated in 1988 and expanded in 1994, the government has put three inmates to death, all by lethal injection...

Most recently, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to death on federal charges last year for his role in the Boston Marathon bombing. Tsarnaev, the newest addition to the federal death row, is being held at the federal penitentiary in Florence, Colo., according to the Bureau of Prisons. "...Only around 22 percent of mass murderers suffer from clinical mental illnesses, while the rest are just people with narcissistic and paranoid personality traits like entitlement, self-righteousness and resentment. They strike back at people they both know and don’t know. At the time of the killings, they’re usually feeling a combination of murderous rage, utter hopelessness and suicidal despair — but these things are not mental illness, Stone wrote this May in the journal Violence and Gender this past May.

What we know of Roof so far echoes these facts, Stone told HuffPost. Men like this, said Stone, are susceptible to white supremacist ideology because it has the ability to “[reverse] a feeling of worthlessness and inadequacy.”

“Some men of that sort try to adopt a cause — often a very hateful cause like white supremacy — to imagine that instead of being a flop and failure, they’re a member of a special group of people who are under-appreciated but who also really know the truth and [are] trying to grab the reins of power,” said Stone. “That would be a relief from the feeling of being a total nothing and a total failure.”...

Racism is not a mental illness. Unlike actual mental illnesses, it is taught and instilled. Mental illness was not the state policy of South Carolina, or any state for that matter, for hundreds of years — racism was. According to Dylan Roof, (via testimony from the video confession, where you can find all of this) he put 11 rounds in each magazine.... he took seven magazines into the church and held back one (the eighth) to use in himself later.

11 rounds x 7 magazines = 77 ROUNDS were available IN THE CHURCH

77 + 11 rounds held back = 88 rounds total that Roof started out with.

54 projectiles found on autopsy in the victims..... + 22 recovered at scene = 76. So there is one missing from the original 77? And 4 of those were still in a magazine on a table.

Now... just because they only found 54 rounds IN THE VICTIMS, some could have just knocked them and kept going, or went entirely through a place on the body and did not lodge in a victim. A victims may have been hit by more projectiles than what stayed in his/her body.'

I find no discrepancies worth quibbling over.
