Crime on Line

Can't quite get my head around the idea that Paul's head was blown off. His brains were on the ceiling, door, wall, floor, everywhere. There can't be much left of the skull when the brains are everywhere. That doesn't seem like an accidental killing.

Alex's troubles started with the boating accident. That open the door to lawsuits and financial disclosures. Alex was afraid his fraud would be discovered. His wife must have known something about the financial trouble. The family properties were in Maggie's name, and it sounds like divorce was close. If Maggie died, Alex (beneficiary) could use the property to clear his debt - while hoping to keep the fraud a secret.

Paul made a mess of Alex's life and Alex didn't want it to happen again. His wife was worth so much more dead than alive. Alex's troubles started with the boating accident, so the first thing he told police was the motive: boating accident revenge.
This my notion exactly.

Phone evidence means everything.

<modsnip - off topic/no links>

This evidence, I no doubt, will be brought out in detail-- time stamp by time stamp.

<modsnip> Paul's video/audio of the dog may prove that Alex was at the kennels with Maggie and Paul near the time of the murders. Paul allegedly was basically a phone addict. That he did not pick up/answer texts soon after that video is circumstantial evidence. JMO.

The phone situation is puzzling. Why pick up PMs phone only to leave it. And yet take MMs phone and dispose of it down the road? Were there 2 killers? There were 2 guns and 2 different actions regarding phones. Or was PMs killer interrupted and that's why he dropped the phone?
I believe AM is the only killer. I think the video is going to answer this definitively for most people. I’m not sure why he’d want to get rid of Maggie’s phone.

I just listened to the interview in LE's car. Alex talks about riding around the property with Paul and says he knew Maggie had gone to the kennel. I don't hear him say how he knew she went there. I don't hear him say that he was with her at the kennel area.

Right but prosecutor said in opening that Alex told everyone that would listen that he was NOT at those kennels that evening. None of the testimony or recordings corroborate that. He said he was with them and rode around with Paul checking on things. I feel like a stop by the farm shed is implied

My only hesitation about accepting the ATV as the transport source and solving the question is that Deputy Jason Chapman was pretty sharp and he figured out quickly which vehicles on the property were operable and which were not.

I'm inclined to believe there was something wrong with the ATV because I think he would have asked AM if MM rode it and the question put to rest.

Actually, the only reference I recall to the ATV from the entirety of LE was by I think Agent Rutland that said she collected MM's earring near one of the tires. JMO

Would this be helpful in determining whether or not a fully operating ATV was at Moselle? Moselle is considered a Hunting Lodge. The ride takes place before Maggie arrives at 8:15pm. It's from the D opening:

"Harpootlian asked Murdaugh to stand as he described a loving father and loving husband.

“You’re not going to hear a single witness say that their relationship, Maggie and Alex’s relationship, was anything other than loving. You’re going to hear about how they went to a baseball game the weekend before. You’re going to hear about their relationship. You’re going to see texts and emails indicating a loving relationship,” Harpootlian said. “Paul, the apple of his eye. You’re going to see a video somewhere between 7:30 and 8 o’clock the night of the murders with Paul and Alex riding around looking at some trees they planted. It’s a Snapchat that Paul sent to other people because the trees were not planted very well. They were cantilevering over. They’re laughing. They’re having a good time.”

Murdaugh openers paint different, but graphic pictures of night of killings

Wonder what the jury thought when they heard the trees were cantilevering over. I thought Frank Lloyd Wright used cantilevering when designing balconies.

You may be right about that -- I'm not sure. I'll go back and listen. But the main issue is was he hiding something about his whereabouts and if yes, why?

I didn’t take it as Alex misleading them. It just didn’t come up. He essentially said “yeah I saw them both. Paul and I rode around and checked on some things earlier. “ iirc

But this trial is still in its infancy so there could be some interrogation room interviews coming too so we’ll see. If I recall it was long down the road before Paul’s phone was unlocked. Months. So the video came late in the game. Alex didn’t know they had the video then and neither did they. So we’ll find out soon I hope.

"After considering the arguments of counsel, the evaluation submitted, then pending charges and other investigations, and the apparent character and mental condition of the defendant, the Court finds that the Defendant is a danger both to himself and his community,” Newman wrote."

Nothing has changed. He still is a danger to himself and the community.

<modsnip> if either MM and/or PM were actively talking, texting or posting and suddenly stopped, that time of last contact would be a marker of sorts. Especially if whomever they were engaging with was trying to continue and got no response after that marker. AJMO

It will be interesting to learn who MM was talking to that day and what was discussed.

Yes he said that then said something like, that's where she always goes. She loves the dogs etc...so not that he eyeballed her there jyst that was a common place for her to be and he took it for granted. That's how I interpeted it. JMO

The tech also said she collected biological material from the front of an ATM not far from MM's body

It was also revealed in court that the black Suburban that Murdaugh was driving on June 7, 2021, had been swabbed in nearly a dozen places around the driver and passenger sides. Those swabs preliminarily tested positive for blood.
