Missing man in Horry County considered endangered due to weather | WBTW

A missing man may potentially be in danger due to cold weather, according to a social media post Friday by the Horry County Police Department.

• Ralph Whitehead, 61, was last seen at about 10 a.m. Friday near Camden Drive outside of Myrtle Beach.
• He was wearing black pants and a blue-toned gray t-shirt.
• Ralph is about 5’3″ tall and weighs approx. 130 pounds.
• The family said he has an English accent.
• He recently had open-heart surgery and may be having similar symptoms to PTSD.

It was a normal Friday for DW and her husband Ralph.

DW said she left her husband in the living room to speak with their son on the phone. When she came back, Ralph was gone.

"So I ran in and he wasn't in the bathroom. He wasn't in our bathroom and then I realized the garage door was open. I came out here and he was shouting for him," said Whitehead.

Whitehead said her husband had heart surgery recently and has been acting differently ever since.

"He wasn't feeling good. He was a little bit confused. Not in his right mind. Out of 31 years, I know he just wasn't himself," said Whitehead.

Whitehead moved here just four months ago and is not familiar with the area.

Family members say they have bloodhound dogs helping in their search but would appreciate any help from the community.

"We're real concerned about him. We can use whatever leads anybody got. If they seen him anywhere, he's about 5'2, brown hair, piercing blue beautiful eyes, and again with a real heavy accent," Sister-in-law, TR said.

damn, this is NOT a good place to be confused and go missing. Camden Dr is right behind this dense plot of forest. Probably why they brought in scent dogs.

Family of missing Horry County man pleads for help | WBTW
“He’s a very active man, but after his surgery, he just wasn’t active at all, and I think it started to bother him that he couldn’t do what he was used to doing,” his wife said. said.

She said her 61-year-old husband just leaving would be very much out of character.

Horry County Police used a helicopter, dive teams, and searchers on foot looking for Ralph all day on Monday. Since he went missing, family friends and neighbors have conducted search parties.

Whitehead said her husband had heart surgery recently and has been acting differently ever since. His son thinks the stress of being in the hospital impacted him. Friday, they had been talking about taking him back there because he was showing abnormal behavior.

“The thought of going back there, mixed with some new medications that he received that week he could have been not in his normal state of mind at all and just in a state of paranoia or something along those lines," Brandon said.

Family members told WMBF News that the search expanded on Monday for Whitehead after a farmer said he spotted Whitehead on his property along McCormick Road. It is about a mile away from where Whitehead was last seen.

Close family and friends from across the United States and even Europe have come to the Myrtle Beach area to help in the search for Whitehead.

His son, B, came from Puerto Rico to do what he can to help find his father and bring him back home.

Ralph Whitehead, a former Fishkill resident has been reported missing from his home in Myrtle Beach on January 28. Family members believe that Mr. Whitehead may be trying to get to his former home on Mountain View Road in Fishkill.

Ralph Whitehead’s body was found about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in a wooded area near the Steeple Chase neighborhood in the Myrtle Beach area, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler.

His home on Camden Drive appears to be located in the Steeple Chase neighborhood with McCormick Road (possible sighting) about a mile away. So it appears he either never left his neighborhood (and the McCormick Road sighting wasn’t actually him) OR he made his way to McCormick Road and made it back to his neighborhood where he then died. Either way, a devastating loss for his loved ones.
