Gut-wrenching. Thankful it ended when it did and no one is dead.

Children can be heard screaming "just stop daddy" on a 911 call made from the home of a South Carolina legislator accused of beating his wife and pointing a gun at her, local media reported Friday.

Republican Rep. Chris Corley, of Graniteville, is charged with first-degree criminal domestic violence and pointing a firearm at a person. If convicted, the felonies could send him to prison for up to 15 years.

Corley's wife told deputies he stopped hitting her late Monday only after noticing she was bleeding and hearing the screams of two of their three children, ages 2 and 8.

Corley is charged with pointing a firearm and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, which alone is punishable by 20 years. The indictment accuses him of hitting his wife in the face, head and body with a closed fist and with a gun while in the presence of children.

Notice the scratch on his forehead? He says his wife tried to punch him. Legislators are calling for his resignation.

Chris Corley was sentenced to five years probation on 7 August 2017, and his wife is still standing by him, and she had begged the state prosecutors to pursue a lower charge.
