SC - Spartanburg Police Officer Austin Aldridge Killed On Duty-Arrest

This has been a week and is all over wspa.com, foxcarolina.com.

The suspect is a Duane Heard who has very little history that I can find other than a recent incident of threats and resisting arrest so it’s anybodys guess as to how he was allowed to stay armed after threatening a US post office and a postal carrier. Last week there was a domestic incident where a sheriff’s dept officer went to Heards home because he had assaulted a woman there and as Officer Austin Aldridge, 25, approached the door he was shot and killed.

foxcarolina is reporting that the state is going for the death penalty on Duane Heard in the officers death.

Other news reports say that he was an organ donor too so his service to others didn’t end when he was killed. There are various things going on at restaurants around Sburg this weekend in his honor.

I watched the service on local tv station but this broke me.
He and his wife found out on Fathers Day that they were expecting

wspa.com is reporting that additional charges are filed for Robbery, Domestic Violence, Pointing a firearm.

Upstate news is reporting that Heard has died while in custody. He died as a hospice patient so is it possible that he knew he was terminal when he killed the officer?
