North Augusta Public Safety responded to a motor vehicle collision on Gregory Lake Road Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle left the roadway and went into a ditch.

Officers state that the vehicle was “operated by a white female who exited the vehicle and wandered off into the woods.”

According to the department, the woman has been identified as Susan Rhodes. She was wearing bright red shirt, tan pants, balck shoes and an arm sling when she was last seen going through the yard at 2224 Gregory Lake Road. North Augusta Public Safety stated a witness said she appeared to be disoriented and possibly suffering from some type of medical issue.

The only Susan Rhodes I could find a court record for in that and the neighboring county was for a Susan Hardwick Rhodes, White Female, Born 1954 (ancient minor speeding ticket). https://publicindex.sccourts.org/Edgefield/PublicIndex/PISearch.aspx. If that is her and she's in her early 70's she could have experienced a medical event prior to the accident. https://publicindex.sccourts.org/Edgefield/PublicIndex/PISearch.aspx

This article and photo indicate she is a senior. North Augusta women goes missing after car crash

Why in the heck did the 'witness' not check and make sure the woman was all right.

I do think that foul play should be on the list.

Now that authorities have exhausted their search efforts for a woman missing after a North Augusta wreck, what’s next?

The North Augusta Department of Public Safety offered a new update Friday afternoon.

The agency said its investigators along with Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office staff members have been following up on possible locations in Edgefield County where Susan Rhodes could be.

Authorities also requested assistance from South Carolina Department of Natural Resources in checking several bodies of water near where she was last seen.

…,

They found her footprints near a creek, and a surveillance camera recorded her walking through someone’s yard after the crash, but otherwise there’s been no sign of her despite the use of a heat-detecting helicopter and drones

I can recall a number of times that people, injured in an accident (esp head injury) have wandered off ( we have discussed some cases on WS), sometimes found deceased quickly, others much later, some never found. Every once in awhile, found alive. MOO. Hope she is one of the lucky ones.

I'm not sure if anyone here remembers this one from here in Mississippi, but it was investigated as a possible abduction/crime. It ended up being a tragic accident that she wandered away from. She ended up crawling inside a car at small car dealership where she sadly passed. It definitely raised a lot of eyebrows until video surveillance was found showing her putting herself into the car.
