STATEMENT OF DIRECTOR A. TONY FISHER
On June 14, 2004, members of Tamika Hustons family contacted the Spartanburg Public Safety Department. The family was concerned about Ms. Hustons whereabouts and filed a missing person report. At the time of her disappearance, Ms. Huston was living on Harvard Drive in the city of Spartanburg. Huston was 24 years old.
Several days after the initial contact from Ms. Hustons family, officers found her black Honda CRX at Barksdale Apartments, 350 Pierpont Avenue in Spartanburg.
The vehicle was abandoned at this location around the time of Ms. Hustons disappearance.
The initial investigation did not reveal concrete evidence that would suggest that Tamika was the victim of foul play however there were a number of suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Throughout the course of this investigation, several persons of interest were identified and subsequently interviewed. As evidence and information was uncovered we were able to develop suspects in this case.
In mid February of this year, we announced the discovery of forensic evidence, which consisted of blood. This evidence was located in an apartment at Fremont School Apartments. Christopher Lemont Hampton previously occupied this apartment. Hampton was an acquaintance of Ms. Huston and was one of the last people to be in Ms. Hustons presence. This discovery confirmed suspicions of foul play.
Since the initial report, we have continued the investigation of Ms. Hustons disappearance and have utilized local, state and national resources to locate Ms. Huston and to discover facts of this case. We have been very fortunate to have the resources of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), The Klaas Kids Foundation as well as cadaver dog teams who traveled from various east coast locations to assist in the search for Ms. Huston.
We recently, uncovered additional forensic evidence in this case. With this evidence we are comfortable in proceeding with criminal charges for the murder of Tamika Antonette Huston. This additional evidence supports our belief that Christopher Lemont Hampton is responsible for the death of Ms. Huston.
