MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) - A Moncks Corner family is asking for closure, just days before the two-year anniversary of a loved one’s disappearance.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office says Tyreek Pettigrew was last seen at a gas station on Feb. 21, 2018.

Officials say there have been no recent developments in his disappearance and this is still an open case to the agency.

His mother, Felicia Pettigrew, believes someone has killed him and no one is coming forward.

“I know my son was killed," she said."Tyreek is not the type of person that just goes away and doesn’t try to contact me, his grandma, or his uncle."

Tyreek was described as a fun, lovable person.

He would’ve turned 22 this year.

This is a sad case for Tyreek’s family and friends. Two-plus years after his death and there’s been no reports of progress in the search for Tyreek.

His mother has lost hope of ever seeing him alive and wishes for someone to come forward with information about his ‘death’. The family has even offered a reward but they apparently learned nothing new.

As we all know, too many cases are left this way with nothing new forthcoming and the family in anguish, their only hope that ‘some day’ some one will tell.

All hope is not lost if LE continues to work this case. Or perhaps interest will develop and the case will be reopened. All I can offer is a wish for Tyreek’s loved ones to find the truth and my heart-felt condolences for their pain.

Sadly the 4-year anniversary of Tyreek’s disappearance has just passed and there is still no closure for his family and no new information about his disappearance. The family continues to ask for help.

A wide variety of sources are used, such as other databases, news media accounts, law enforcement, information supplied by friends and family members of the missing, and books, and all the information contained therein is summarized on each missing person’s Charley Project casefile. In this way, instead of having to track down, say, twenty different news articles from five different news sources about a missing person, an interested party can simply go to the Charley Project and find it all in one place."

Berkeley Co. deputies make arrest in 2018 missing person cold case

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 33-year-old man in connection to a missing person cold case from 2018.

Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle Monday, Nov. 20, for a traffic violation when the driver, later identified as Smith, did not stop. Smith eventually dumped the car he was driving and led deputies on a short foot chase. Detectives, deputies and K-9s tracked Smith and took him into custody.

“As time goes on, we continue to follow up on leads and re-evaluate evidence,” Lewis said. “We never stop investigating cold cases. The family has trusted us since day one, and we are glad to begin to start the process of justice for the family. We are thankful to Solicitor Scarlett Wilson’s office for its assistance on this case.”

Smith also had outstanding warrants with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office for failure to stop for blue lights and sirens and third-degree domestic violence. He will receive an additional charge of failure to stop for blue lights and sirens for the Monday, Nov. 20, pursuit

According to the warrants, a witness observed Smith and Pettigrew arrive together on Adea Lane, Moncks Corner in Pettigrew's vehicle on Feb. 21, 2018. Smith and Pettigrew were also inside the vehicle.
