No one has access to the police incident reports...anything aired on MSM is designed to form a narrative. None of those reports have been released.

The investigation was going on when the man with the cell phone video brought it to the family and they brought it to investigator days later. There is no way they would have closed this case as a justified shooting when the dead man had five bullets in his back, no way.

Slager picked the taser up and holstered it seconds after he dropped it. Not sure why he dropped it in the first place, maybe he was thinking of framing Scott, hard to know until he actually gives a statement.

I didn't see it either, and I watched the entire video. Anyway it's pretty obvious from the video, that the cops kicked him a lot worse then he kicked the horse, if he actually kicked the horse.

Even animal cruelty, doesn't justify police brutality. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I have done very little with horses so I would not recognize the signs of a rider kicking the horse too hard.

Having said that, the perp WAS convicted of animal abuse when he killed a dog, so if he stole a horse and was desperately fleeing I doubt if he was being all that concerned about "gentleness" and he almost certainly WAS kicking the horse as hard as he could to get the animal to move faster.

I am just very glad the horse wasn't harmed.

Maybe if criminals had a real FEAR they would think twice, kwim? But they don't have much fear because too many in society will defend them no matter what they do.

Okay does anyone have links showing that CPR after several gun shot wounds even WORKS???

CPR is to restore blood flow to the brain. Shooting someone is designed to cause a massive loss of blood resulting in a fast death.

I ain't no medical professional but I can't see how performing CPR on an individual that was just shot full of holes INTENDED to make them bleed out helps. It just pumps even more blood out of the already dead body.

What about staunching the flow of blood? Or making sure he had a clear airway? Worthy/heroic efforts or a waste of time?

BBM

That's not what happened, unfortunately.

The reason the CPR is important is because at least one officer claimed in his report to have seen it done and I believe another officer claimed in his report to have performed it. Read the links that have been previously posted in this thread.

It certainly sounds like he was used to being arrested for being what is known as a "deadbeat dad".

Yep, I wonder how they are going to go about collecting that $7,800 in back child support, now that he is dead?

Collecting child support should be a civil matter, not criminal. This just shows how badly our system fails.

It absolutely kills me that he was pulled over in an Auto Zone parking lot.

"Your tail light is out, if you go in and buy one, I won't give you a ticket for it."

SOLVED!
Great point!

Its possible that more investigation may have occurred but we will never know how it would have played out if the video would have never surfaced.

JMO that it would have ended with a justified police shooting had that video not surfaced.

Also, I thought Scott had the taser thingies (technical term) still stuck on him as he was running, so perhaps he grabbed the taser on impulse after being tased in order to make it stop?

That is, IF he even grabbed at it, which I am not sure he did.

JMO.

Based on the following picture, I don't think Scott grabbed the taser. Scott is feet away and the taser appears to be inches from Slager's hand. How could Scott have reached the taser from that distance? I don't think it's possible.

The topic was CPR. Multiple questions about CPR.

Got a link that shows CPR after massive gun shot wounds in the field is effective?

The tone of this thread is not to defend criminal actions, past present or future by someone shot by LE - don't see that posted here anywhere. It's about should those criminal actions result in being shot by a cop. Fwiw, the accusation of defending the criminal actions of someone shot by LE seems to always come up in such threads - even when they don't exist. It's difficult to defend non-existent accusations. Jmo.

Did not see the perp kicking the crap out of the horse. Was that before he got on it? It wasn't after. Is it linked in the relevant thread?
RSBM

Had to go back and rewatch it. That was what it looked like to me, but like I said before... we used to own horses and I can tell when they are alarmed or frightened.
I thanked your post because it's good for me to hear an opinion contrary to my own. There are friends and coworkers with whom I disagree; but we still get along with each other. And I mean really disagree. A dear friend whose relatives were murdered in a home invasion thinks the death penalty is wrong. I think she is deluded in that opinion , but i will not argue about that with her as I've been fortunate enough to have never lost anyone close to me. Hope I never know how that feels.

My opinion of law enforcement is skewed to mostly agree with their side --- this is due to the fact I've never been harassed or had an unpleasant encounter with anyone in that occupation. Might have a change of heart if a cop beat me up , although I cannot imagine under what circumstances that would happen ?
Maybe I'm just lucky.

Good point. I lost sight of that.

I was thinking more of Scott's wounds, and that he was face down and cuffed; like "how do you perform CPR like that?", and "would it have saved him anyway?".

But none of that matters. (SQUIRREL!) Statement says they gave him CPR. Video says otherwise.

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/apr/09/second-officer-walter-scott-video-sued-stomping

The second policeman in the video showing Walter Scott’s killing by officer Michael Slager is being sued by another black resident in South Carolina, who alleges police stomped on his face while he was handcuffed and lying on concrete.

Clarence Habersham is among five North Charleston police officers named in a federal lawsuit brought by Sheldon Williams, who claims he was left with broken bones in his face after being assaulted.

Collecting child support should be a civil matter, not criminal. This just shows how badly our system fails.

There is a point at which failure to pay becomes a criminal matter, but that is only after a certain amount of arrears. Failure to pay and collecting child support are two different things.

Citizen's Guide to U.S. Federal Law on Child Support Enforcement
18 U.S.C. § 228- Failure to pay legal child support obligations
Section 228 of Title 18, United States Code, makes it illegal for an individual to willfully fail to pay child support in certain circumstances.
For one, an individual is subject to federal prosecution if he or she willfully fails to pay child support that has been ordered by a court for a child who lives in another state, or if the payment is past due for longer than 1 year or exceeds the amount of $5,000. A violation of this law is a criminal misdemeanor, and convicted offender face fines and up to 6 months in prison (See 18 U.S.C. § 228(a)(1)).

Exactly.

The shooting of an unarmed person in the back 8 times just because he was fleeing is what has most people upset.

Most of those same people fully realize that the guy maybe initially deserved a ticket and after he ran, he may even have deserved being thrown in jail for trying to evade an officer. But not getting killed over it.

Plus, isn't Scott already shot in this pic? I thought this was taken after the officer jogged back, picked the taser up and returned to drop it next to Scott. He then retrieves it again, I guess having thought better of it.

Well, at the time of that video image, Walter Scott was on the ground with his hands handcuffed behind his back, and most likely deader than a doornail.

Isn't this photo of Slager and the other deputy ? I thought Scott was on the ground having been already shot in this photo ?
I thought this photo was of Slager "planting" the tazer next to Scott's body ?
At the bottom/middle of this photo, isn't that the aqua-ish t-shirt Scott was wearing , and isn't that Scott's flip flop sticking up in the photo ?
Imo
