I think he just panicked. Many people in this country (especially African-Americans) are deathly afraid of the police, and IMHO they have good reason to be afraid.

Santana could have bad and frightening experiences or knowledge to warrant fear of LE, either in the US or his country of origin. Jmo.

I don't like your chances of finding a tail light lens for a 1991 Mercedes at an Advance Auto Parts store.
bbm

franker, I'm w you on finding 1991 MB tail light lens there, short on luck, but that was not reason for traffic stop.

~40-45 sec into vid, LEO said "The reason for the stop is your third brake light is out. IIHearC.
Not the tail light. Not the (regular) brake light. Not the brake light lens.

THIRD BRAKE LIGHT, i.e., brake light on the 'back deck' (kind of a shelf) behind rear passenger seats.

Likely a bulb? Maybe avail at parts store? IDK. Electric short? I'm not an auto technician & don't play one on TV or W/S.

Huh? If Scott had already SHOT with the Taser and the prongs were in him (and I believe they were) then no he couldn't use it on someone else without loading a new cartridge.

Are you saying this taser had darts and could also be used for manual contact? I believe some models are like that.

BBM. Yes. It looks like it can be used both ways. The object placed next to the body doesn't look large enough to be the gun itself. It just looks like a cartridge to me.

  • #724
The cartridge was attached to the wires. I doubt there will be an indictment or trial.

I have doubts about an indictment as well, but don't think it will have anything to do with the cartridge.

Do we know for sure that Scott gave Slager HIS license?

That's true. If that did happened I guess we will find out later.

  • #726
I don't think Scott was pulled over because of race, however, I do think he was shot at because of race. I can't imagine former officer Slager shooting a white man running away from him.......

I doubt he had a valid driver's license because of the outstanding warrant and child support delinquency. He had a temporary job that the State obviously didn't know about because they would have gone after his wages.

License Revocation

If the non-custodial parent accumulates an arrearage of at least $500 and has not made a payment within 60 days, any driver's, occupational, professional, business or commercial license issued by the State of South Carolina is subject to being suspended or revoked. Once a license has been suspended or revoked, the non-custodial parent cannot have the license reinstated until they have reached an agreement with the ICSSD to pay the arrearage.

Apparently, taser wires are easily broken. Speaking with a LEO family member who said he'd been taught to attempt to break the wires should he be tased. Also, I thought tasers were incapacitating. Did Slagel administer the taser up close to Scott, minimizing the muscle groups affected? Did Scott break the wires soon after being struck? Did Slagel only hit Scott with one of the prongs? I'm trying to figure out why Scott was able to run after being tasered.

So while he was still in the car, he called his mother to tell her he might be heading to jail, according to his older brother, Anthony Scott.

"He wanted to let her know he was getting pulled over and the way this was going, he'd probably be getting arrested," said Anthony Scott, his older brother. "In other words: Get ready to come and get me."

So he wasn't acting rationally he just panicked. He may have acted irrationally when Slager caught up with him later on. Maybe grabbing the Taser? JMO.

I might have misheard dashcam aud-vid. Do grassy knoll-ers think '3d brake light' was dubbed in? Wink.

BTW, I think the left brake or tail light looked a bit wonky, but IIHC, that's not reason for stop.

I know, I just got new headlights for a 1999 ford and as the parts guy was looking for them he said it's a chance they may not be available, but they were and I now have bright new headlights, $525.00 later. :)

Yes, it was the lens on the left that was broken. Take a look at the video again and you will see a white, left tail light as Scott comes to a halt. The red cover over it is what is broken. The right rear tail light is out completely.JMO

Two brake lights on the Mercedes-Benz were working when Patrolman 1st Class Michael T. Slager pulled it over, according the dashboard camera footage released Thursday.
Police officials have said that Slager made the stop because one of Scott’s brake lights was out.
It was a third brake light behind the back window of the 1990 Mercedes 300E that wasn’t working, the video showed.

I don't know how to change the 3rd -WINDOW- brake light, I've never had to replace one before.
As for the white light, a white light would have been seen momentarily when a driver is shifting from drive to park. The rear white light is a reverse light, not a brake light.

The third brake light is a safety feature if the other brake lights go out. If you look at the video, the left tail light lens was broken and Officer Slager took note of it with his hand as he approached the car and the right brake light didn't work at all. Scott was driving around in a 24-year-old vehicle with no brake lights, no registration and no insurance. A real danger to other motorists.

Scott could have handed over an expired or revoked license with his name on it to Officer Slager. We just don't know at this point. JMO.

I'm not sure that Tasers are 100% effective. JMO.

I am saying:
No, it is NOT ok for someone to do this and that is why the shooting would have been justified DURING that altercation.
And specifically based on the fact that the electrodes were embedded in Scott's body....
bbm sbm

Link and copy and paste, pls for ^fact - electrodes were embedded in Scott's body.
Anyone?

If he didn't have a valid license, there is no way he could be buying the car because he couldn't register it or get it insured.

He could still buy it. He just wouldn't be able register or get insurance for it. I have uninsured motorist coverage because people do that all the time. JMO.

Here is a video of the guy that gets tased FOUR times and has no problem fighting the police and then running. From what I have read tasers primarily cause a whole lot of pain, and pain can never be relied on to stop someone.

(Video contains colorful language)
