Scott was last seen in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 14, 1978 heading to a convenience store down the street from his home. He was a frequent runaway at the time. In 1989, he reportedly called a family friend saying that he was okay and working for a carnival, but he refused to say where he was.
A John Doe found in Kentucky in 1990 was falsely identified as Scott in 2007. In 2009, DNA testing proved the John Doe was not Scott. He remains missing.
