Body of Missing Woman Found | Radio 570 WNAX

A South Dakota Endangered Missing Advisory issued on April 12th stated Flittie left Sioux Falls on April 5th to drive to Arkansas to visit a relative. A family member received a call from Flittie around 2pm on April 5th that originated in a rural area of Hanson County.

The advisory stated law enforcement received calls of a woman who appeared confused and was walking on the shoulder of the road during the same timeframe but was unable to locate her but recovered Flittie’s car.

I watched Nightwatch on TV the other day and saw the EMT's deal with a person who was unresponsive and then very confused and they thought it was from an exhaust leak in his truck = CO2 poisoning. Asking any experts here if Kay left her car and appeared confused I wonder if something like that could have happened to her? Would she have been able to even make it where she was found or would she have been down much sooner?

A fully healthy person will recover from mild to moderate (fully conscious) CO poisoning gradually just by getting into fresh air but a person who already has respiratory problems can suffer from complications to them before their body naturally eliminates the toxins so yes, this is a very realistic possibility and we should not jump to conclusions based on unverified personal anecdotes.

Won’t the carbon monoxide leave the body naturally?

The half-life of carboxyhemoglobin in fresh air is approximately 4 hours. To completely flush the carbon monoxide from the body requires several hours, valuable time when additional damage can occur. Medical treatment, using oxygen or hyperbaric chambers, can reduce CO damage, speed recovery, and reduce medical problems.

After CO exposure how long do the effects last?

When people lose consciousness due to carbon monoxide poisoning, they will typically have relapses for several weeks. They will suffer from headache, fatigue, loss of memory, difficulty in thinking clearly, irrational behavior, and irritability. Recover can be slow and frustrating. Some individuals suffer permanent brain and organ damage. Victims may be highly sensitive to CO for the rest of their lives.

Thank you all for keeping my mom's story new. I'm not sure what this website is for or what u all do but I can say I'm thankful for u all. Unless ppl live it u can't comprehend what it's like to hv a loved one missing/deceased. And I'm sure they felt like we did and didn't hv a clue wtf to even do. But then u find ur person and a new world of wtf begins. I can say whatever I wish now. So can anyone tell me wtf is next. They r or will announce they believe my mom died of hypothermia. We can now hv her body to lay to rest. She always said she wanted to b cremated. We will do so. But we or I still hv unanswered questions to some huge unknown. Such as why was she "broke down" no gas car stopped and they don't seem to gv an answer eithor. I mean do I push on them bc that's only of many. Or do I let it go. If it's hypothermia then why won't they release her car ect bc they said they don't feel comfortable.??? Why I thought it was hypothermia?? Idk I guess this is how ppl feel when a love one dies suddenly and unexpected. Or do I let go. And what if we. Or I know of a person who was not near hear now but has viewed to kill her for years?? I just I'm so at a loss if feels unreal

The district attorney/prosecuting attorney's office has a Victim Advocate. Not suggesting there was a crime here, but that person knows about resources in your community, and knows how to interpret LE reports. See if you can get in touch with the Victim Advocate in the county where your Mom's remains were located.

After you select a funeral home, the staff there may be able to answer questions, explain local processes, and point you to resources.

The Hanson County Sheriff’s Office says an autopsy was performed in Rapid City on Monday. The autopsy determined there was no foul play in Kay Flittie’s death.

Officials say Kay Flittie died of hypothermia. No other information is available at this time.
