Seeking Resources in Florida for Family Friend

Hi all -

I am seeking resources, specifically in South Florida, for a family friend of mine who believes his younger brother has been missing for over a month. I am not going to get into the details because there has not been an official report filed, but he was last seen in Miami-Dade County and is a college aged Black man. From what I understand Miami Police is hesitant to open a case because of his age, demographic info and “the possibility he may just be homeless.”

His family does not live in Florida, have a language/cultural barrier and are unfamiliar with many of the resources out there for families of missing people, so I am posting on their behalf to try to connect them with folks that may be able to help.

So far I have suggested contacting the police where the family is currently living and trying to file a report out of that city as they’re more familiar with the family and ensuring that once something is filed that they need the case in NAMUS and DNA uploaded.

If there are any other suggestions you have that could possibly help, please please please share them. We just want to make sure that this young man is okay.

Second, related question to the first one - does anyone know of resources that help with finding homeless/indigent missing persons specifically? His housing status or lack thereof seems to be the biggest barrier to the family filing an official report atm.

When my sister went missing, I contacted all the food pantries and soup kitchen that I could find. Also shelters. I also posted in a facebook group that was specific to her neighborhood. It helped me locate the food pantry my sister went to regularly. What are the brother's habits? knowing things like that can help. For instance, my sister would rent DVDs from the local library.
