MEMPHIS, TN (WCMH) — A new weapon being marketed to women is designed to collect DNA data from an attacker.

The Tiger Lady, $29, is designed for close quarters and when the user squeezes it, sharp claws pop out.

“At least this way, you’re going to get some DNA for the police to go by,” sexual assault survivor Stephanie Herrada tells WMC.

I think that's a great idea, but more for the purpose of leaving visible injuries on the perp than collecting DNA because he'd probably just take the device with him.

I think I would rather have my glock in my hand.

That's fair. For those uncomfortable taking a human life, or when the attacker is too close before you realize his intentions, this seems a pretty good option :)

I am not comfortable with taking a life,I am comfortable with not being raped or murdered.Let's not turn this into a gun control debate, that was not my point.
My point was this device will not stop your being assaulted or murdered but maybe stop the next assault/muder only after going through the justice system.

This would be a good thing to attach to a keychain. You know how women sometimes walk with their keys poking out through their fingers? Add this and the assaulter gets injured and you get evidence.

I'm not the one who brought up guns, so please don't accuse me of turning it into some sort of debate :)

You can shoot someone and not take a life. Just saying. I don't think that's the point.

Just a guess that most of the women or men who would use these claws would not be making the choice gun vs. claws. Totally different, IMO, for different situations and people. Not everyone owns or carries or is allowed to carry or lives somewhere it's allowed. And if you have these claws in case you are assaulted while walking home at night, jogging alone, riding the subway, whatever, it's unlikely you would be carrying a loaded weapon ready to shoot someone in one of those situations.

it is just a marketing gimmick/money grab, trying to make women feel more safe, women would be just as safe if they kept a lucky rock in their pocket,

i hope no foolish ladies fall for this,

first of all, that evidence would never hold any water in a court of law, and it would never get to that point anyway,

the defense would say that DNA sample could have occurred at any time, anywhere, previously, and not necessarily during the so called/claimed "attack", an easy out,

also, the suspect would just flee with this item in his/her hand, along with any other personal belongings of the victim,

you would be better off with pepper spray or mace,
