Sen. Ted Kennedy has Brain Tumor UPDATE PASSED AWAY

  • #81
I am not really sorry for him. Its called KARMA.[/QUOTE

"Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment."

Hmmm-poor taste. The post that is. With all due respect none of us will ever know if Mary Jo forgave Ted for his cowardly act. Cancer is not KARMA in fact-nor is any disease, JMO.

And that law is broken everyday when people like Saddam Hussein, Ted Bundy and other people that have caused the deaths of others die. Do you think anyone on here will have a kind word when Casey Anthony dies? Ted Kennedy was a selfish, corrupt, alcoholic politician who will NOT be missed by everyone. The people who did not agree with his life's decisions have just as much right to speak out right now as those who agreed with him.

My bold and italics-you are entitled to your opinion, but corrupt? Ted was not the only selfish alcoholic polititian and undoubtedly will not be the last. Those attributes are well represented on both sides of the aisle.

I am staggered however at how many are able to deny his importance to 20th century politics-for good specifically....but even just in general. How many of us can hope to participate in changing the world the way this man did?

Rest in Peace Sen. Kennedy.

No but there is sort of an unwritten law that you do not talk trash about someone who has just died. I do not claim you were doing that but I have already seen some of this stuff elsewhere and expect more to come. There is a vast difference between 'love and admire' and someone claiming his tumor was karma.
Ted Kennedy made a grievous mistake in 1969. He has long since attoned for it. That episode is of course part of his legacy and needs to be included. Some of you people act as if that is the only thing you care about in his life.
That's pretty narrow, in my opinion.

Your right there is an unwritten law about talking bad about the dead. But saying he killed a young woman is not talking trash, it's stating a fact. Mary Jo's death was only a "grievious mistake" because Ted was a Kennedy and he was wealthy, for anyone else it would have been a crime. He never served one day in jail, how did he attone for her death? I believe her family would feel differently. I'm not saying he hasn't done good for this Country but I know for a fact that he caused one family immeasurable pain. The fact that it was swept under the rug and he didn't have to face the consequences is probably why some people are so upset. I know he had to live with the fact that he was a coward and I am sure he was ashamed but I can't imagine how her family felt watching him go on as if nothing had happened. I certainly do not believe he deserved to have cancer and I feel terrible for his family. I just don't see him as the saint that some people do.

Swept under the rug??? Are you kidding? It cost him any chance at attaining higher office, as it should have. He never escaped it, it was the second sentence of every story every done about him.

Charles S. Dutton. Killed a man, now noted Hollywood actor. Don King. Killed a man, now a famous promoter. OJ Simpson-there are more ways to do time than inside a jail. The man is a paraiah. I would never ever tell the Kopechne's that Ted served enough time for what he had done-but he served it. No question, IMO.

Peace to all...

Granted the man screwed up big time and should have done time in jail for her death. I believe it was manslaughter, not murder. Yet some of the same people ( not saying you ) who are willing to bash Ted Kennedy the day after he died are willing to cut Michael Jackson a free pass on being a child molester... Talk about hypocracy! At least Teddy became a good person with his life after Chappaquidick, unlike Michael Jackson!
Quoting myself in response.

I was really thinking about the poor girl Ted left to drown.

I have not seen a thread on Mary Joe til Ted Kennedy passed away this morning? is there one that I have overlooked? or did the news media remind you of something that happened years and years ago.
Today Ted Kennedy (Senator) died from a cancerous brain tumor. He has made his life for others. The whole Kennedy family has dedicated their lives to others. Are they perfect? Nope, but neither are any of us. right?

Amen, sista!

Michael Jackson was not convicted and also MJ did do a lot for charitys also.
I am wondering about all the people on here so judgemental, how many times they have gone to feed the homeless? or to a childrens hospital to play with the children on Christmas? or to take a family in need a whole Thanksgiving dinner or invite them into your home? Or take your gifts to a family that REALLY needs them?
I am soooo disappointed that the comments on this thread are less than respectful. This family has scarificed their whole lives for people like us.
Thank God.

To get his name in the Guinness book of Records! Everything Michael Jackson did was self-serving.
Also, his lack of conviction doesn't mean he wasn't Guilty, it was a miscarriage of justice by a star-struck jury like OJ's!

Can I point out to you that you are chastising someone that isn't even a member here? She has a right to her opinion just as you do....and she posted it well over a year ago.

RIP Senator Kennedy. I will remember him mostly as someone who fought for the poor and for the raising of minimum wage. He did have his troubles in life and many tragedies in his family.

RIP Teddy - Despite what some person said I am quite sure Ted Kennedy will be missed by LOTS of people. He was champion for human rights, for the poor and for equality. He made mistakes - we all do and we all have. The difference is 30some yrs later people are still talking about his mistakes. That is what happens when you live your life in the public eye and I think he did so with grace and dignity.

Umm..Michael Jackson is not the topic of this thread, Ted Kennedy is.

I am especially appreciative of his public service for civil rights and equality for women both in sports and business.RIP.

I thought it was a beautiful memorial and all speakers did a great job.
