Interesting thought process. So based on your posting history, it is ok to sexually persue children if you are a Christian fundamentalist, but if you are Muslim following sharia, you are an evil pedophile.

Anyone else concerned about this kind of thinking?

Nope. The christian fundamentalist and the islamic fundamentalist are BOTH wrong for pursuing child and teen brides, IMO.

What's wrong with that? (I am talking about the book about Rush).

I haven't read the book but if that is Franken's conclusion I agree! Hate the clown Limbaugh.

Why would she be "humiliated" by that picture? Humiliated is a strange word to use for a narcisisstic woman who enjoyed her reputation as a sexy plaything and a nude model. Why didn't she find it funny? He wasn't even touching her flak vest-- the flak vest actually is what AF probably thought made it funny, in her case, since she's a nude model. Is it humiliating because she was asleep? Humiliating because she was wearing a flak vest, and not nude or wearing lingerie or a tight shirt? She made a career out of displaying her breasts-- and he was teasing about that. Was he "right"? No, but not "wrong" either. It was a bawdy joke. She's exploiting it for political gain and to increase her fame, IMO.

This wasn't sexual assault or sexual harassment, IMO. It was an ill-fated joke, probably a poor choice on his part, that is now coming back to hurt him politically since she chose to weaponize it.
I'm getting a jealousy from you over this attractive woman. Hmmm.

Seems like after she told him the kiss was unwanted, he didn't try it again. And you know what, if people are suppose to resign over something inappropriate that they did years ago, Franken isn't the one that should go first.

While I agree because Franken is a dweeb, and found a different path, I do wonder...

And jumping off your post...

The USO tours are supposed to be edgy, raunchy, but it is well orchestrated. Raunchy does not equal unsafe.

There's a lot of humiliation and shame in what Franken did. Why? Because Tweeden was an unwilling participant. "Unwilling participant" is the operative. So, today, I am understanding a lot better why Leeann Tweeden wanted to hit him, and has been pissed off for ten years. Franken ran her up the flagpole like a freaking SNL skit after she tried to be a good sport on a USO tour. And I guarantee you the troops were not there to enjoy Al Franken.

Was it because she was a playboy cover girl? Because she is the bomb? Oh, he thought she has no brains, anyway? Ironically, Leeann Tweeden is the sharpest voice in the ring. She gave voice to all the funny, har, har, Al Frankens I ever met in my life.

So wait a minute, if I were at an office party in my flak jacket and helmet in the 80's, passed out from too much partying, and Al Franken snapped a pic of a smirking hands on my breasts as a joke, I might say, ok, I am mortified, and move on... I really would.

But, I am sorry, performing for our troops in a war zone, taking the same risks as anyone else, and being reduced to a "playboy" nothing even in a flak jacket, and especially while sleeping, is SO wrong.

It's really hard right now... All kinds of of peeps are in power.

I don't think Franken was molesting anyone in that photo. He is posing for a photo, presumably as a joke. She is wearing a kevlar vest and his hands don't appear to touch her. Presumably there is a photographer in there who took the photo. Obviously inappropriate but not what some people claim it is.
I'm not sure if he was actually touching her. But the poster here doesn't care what he was doing..."She asked for it. A career in short skirts."

Isn't that a stereotype also? That somehow we, presumably less attractive than Franken's accuser (although how do you know that) would be jealous of her beauty?

I don't have any screws loose for thinking women should be free to live their lives. IMO people who believe women shouldn't work at Hooters, go on USO tours, work at malls, go to the same church Roy Moore attends, join the military, work in comedy, etc., are victims of the patriarchy. IMO they've fallen for the lie that women are responsible for men's behaviors.

I believe women should be able to live how they want to live without being harassed, assaulted or raped.

And I think it's completely unreasonable and illogical for anyone to think that their actions don't have consequences. A person can't make sex/ sexuality/ nudity the focus of their reputation and persona, then expect others to ignore it.

A woman *chooses* to work at Hooters for a different reason than a woman chooses to work at Cracker Barrel. Lol!

There is a video of Franken doing the same skit with another female performer. Kiss is the part of the skit. The accuser we are discussing agreed to participate in the skit. Isn't it possible Franken would have expected that she wouldn't be objecting to the kiss, considering the skit involved the kiss even before the accuser agreed to be a part of it? She went to entertain the troops, agreed to be a part of the skit, skit involved the kiss (even before she was a part of it).

Sometimes it is the truth.

A waitress at Hooters would be no more responsible for her rape than waitress at Cracker Barrel. Totally the rapist's responsibility.

Anything is possible. But K_Z isn't saying the woman was a prostitute, so what is your point?

K_Z basically said that Ms. Tweeden made trade on her body and looks so was not a victim/survivor based on the soft and sexy innuendo of historic USO. The leap to those who sell their bodies is not really a leap but a small step.

Jealousy?? No, lol! I am disgusted with her, though. Same way I detest the actions of women like Emma Sulkowicz (mattress girl), and the "poor me" celebrity women who were perfectly content to let decades elapse, and many other women get victimized, before they accused men like Harvey Weinstein. These kind of women give ALL women a bad name, IMO.

The real victims of actual sexual abuse and sexual power are being lost in all these frivolous claims. The famous women who kept quiet about HW's predation, to further their own careers, deserve a special place in hell, IMO.

A woman who poses for a nude photo doesn't make sex the focus of their reputation, persona but you do. YOU make that person a sex object.

The skit in question wasn't written specifically for the accuser. Franken was doing the skit before she was in the picture. If she didn't want to do skit with Franken, why agree to it? I don't see the kiss as evidence that Franken was trying to get with her somehow. It was for entertainment of the troops.
Again, the kiss was the part of the skit before she ever entered the picture.

Do you feel the same way about Bill Cosby's victims?

It does not matter where one works, what one wears or how one chooses to live their life. A job is a job and where a person chooses to work is more complicated than a moral judgment might assume.

If you look at videos on youtube of USO shows, they are filled with all kinds of sexual talk and references to sex acts.

We are looking at that photo today and are outraged. That is good . We are moving ahead as a society.

I have read on the infallible internet that the photo was staged and she was not sleeping. It would be something people considered funny back then. USO shows were considered funny.

If she was part of the pnoto joke, then it is an entirely different matter than if she was in fact sleeping and it was taken while she was unaware.

All I can say is to watch some USO videos and it can be seen what was considered to be humorous. Things we do not find amusing today.
