Severe weather April 13 & 14 2012 in Tornado Alley

Only slightly overcast here, with a pleasant breeze. I almost feel guilty. The night may bring weather, but right now it's a lovely April day in northeastern Oklahoma, with not a threat in it.

There have been dozens of smaller off and on tornados in west/ central Kansas all afternoon.....

BUT, right now there is a HUGE wedge tornado with debris field near McPherson Kansas on the ground.

Looks like Salina and Hutchinson are getting hammered, though the map I'm on shows nothing tornadic. Hail? Yes.

Yes, Tornado still on ground west of Smolan (VERRRY small town) and heading toward Salina area.

Tornadoes and supercell thunderstorms churned Saturday evening toward larger cities in the southern and central Plains. Residents in some areas received new warnings intended to grab their attention and prompt them to find safe shelter.

The region had 48 preliminary tornado reports by 8:15 p.m. ET Saturday, according to CNN meteorologist Jacqui Jeras. Most were in rural areas and damage was reported to be relatively minor, including downed trees and power lines and minor flooding.

Tornado watch for Sedgwick County (Wichita); looks like a medium-sized then a larger storm cell are hooking back northeast out of Oklahoma and wanting to investigate Kellogg Street (insider Wichita reference).

We are going to have all our severe weather overnight.

We got a plan and discussed it with family members.

If you are not in the vicinity of sirens and have a cell phone you can go to the weather channel and download an app for severe weather alerts. Then keep phone close to you.

Good luck everyone...so far 40 plus tornadoes and unfortunately more to come.

Show me, I've heard reports of 60 over three states, with 100+ reports of hail.

Tornados still firing off. I've been watching Kansastwisters.com and tornadovideos.net, and have seen several "live" occurring.

I am torn between being terrified and being jealous...

Everyone stay safe, keep the radios near, the weather on, be prepared to take cover at a moment's notice. Several tornados gave very little warning, so be prepared.

From friend Ruben in Wichita just now: "45 minutes till storm hits Wichita. Still in first round action right now" so light rain a-falling, I guess.

Witchita seems to be under warning...not sure though. North Marion county under warning. Russel and Lincoln counties - be alert. Storm moving towards them at 70+ mph, per reports.

Here in Wichita.....windy, no rain yet but storms moving in from the southwest. NOT letting my teenager go out...so far he has been smart enough not to even ASK if he can go anywhere!!!

Greenburg had two tornados today, and, from what I hear, Salina has gotten multiple touchdowns.
