Severe weather April 13 & 14 2012 in Tornado Alley

Stay safe, Raeann...sounds like it could get nasty there.

Greenburg had two tornados today, and, from what I hear, Salina has gotten multiple touchdowns.

God bless all who have experienced this today, or will tonight.

Haven't been all that concerned today...went out twice to run errands and such, but the tornado on the ground now near Conway Springs is on a track straight in my direction.....half mile wide wedge tornado. I kind of thought that since it stayed cloudy all day there wouldn't be enough heat to keep them going after dark.

Good info on map, chat is active and giving some good info

Warning: Sedgeway County. Large and dangerous near Argonia, moving NE @ 30-40 mph. Warning until 10:15. Very, very large

Wichita and surroundings all take cover. Sedgewick/way does NOT have siren tech in certain areas. Do not rely on sirens. listen to radio.

Including Hudson, Raymond, chase, lyons, genesia, fredrick, and surrounding areas also effected.

Take cover now.

Per KFDI (I think) radio

ETA: Lost radio feed. Not sure why. Will work on getting it back

Sirens sounding now.....no reason to panic yet, it sounds as if it may be dissipating just a bit to a smaller size right now.

Still 30 minutes or so out from my area east of the city.

Tonado emergency 5m s/w of Conway Springs, moving NE @35 mph

TAKE COVER NOW

If you can hear sirens, you are in the possible path.

Wichita, KS take cover now...please don't mess around with this one...I'm reading 1/2 a mile wide and on the ground. http://www.site.kansastwisters.com/

NO worries just yet....have a large comfy finished basement, carpet and fireplace, flat screen tv and pool table, and a full size bathroom (of utmost importance) just don't want my electricity to go out! I have my purse and candle lighter handy just in case we must go down there....

Ruben in Wichita and his kids are in the basement and R. sounds surprisingly upbeat about it all. It's sort of a Kansas pride deal to weather these things with a stiff upper lip. Not always possible though. Harrowing at times.

News saying new circulation starting at Conway springs; Clearwater has damaged homes, people in distress. Wichita should be ready to move into shelter now. (Raeann, your basement sounds delightful...go on down and relax. So *I* can relax, too. LOL...sigh)

Have evacuated towers at Wichita airport. NWS is making decision to hand off warning/reporting/radar to Topeka.

Prayers. Just lots of prayers.

Latest communique from my man in the basement:

The half-mile wide tornado is about to hit Clearwater on the west side of town. We are safe from that, but the bay window facing South may end up breaking from the very strong wind gusts. Many of the high schools were having proms tonight.

WFG, that is scary...so many people being away from home...

ETA: Sedgeway(wich?) LEO are all to report back to base NOW. When the LEO are ordered back, it's time to get into the basement...

Thanks dear, I am fine, have brought MY beagle into her crate and she is not particularly happy to be there, but thought it was the best place for her. My kitty is very weather sensitive but laying calmly on the living room floor so far. The airport is to the far southwest side of town and pretty much in a direct line for this storm. I am located to the far east side of the city...actually not even within the actual city limits. McConnell AFB flew out most of their planes to another base earlier today, I am sure they are now glad that they did that.

Tornado Warning for Iowa City...which is like Southeastern Iowa. But now it's down to a thunderstorm warning even though it sounds worse outside. The sirens were going off too, and it has to be 70 MPH winds or higher for that.

I live in a residence hall and they were making a PA over and over, "A TORNADO WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED..." and there were still some people waiting for their taxi or the bus to come so they go to some party. Seriously...you can't stay in one night?

Miranda Lambert has stopped her concert, and is asking people to stay in the bowl arena.

Good thing you're in the basement, Raeann...would be a bad scene trying to leave that place with tornados around.

National Weather Servcice is evacuating their offices now. Saying that all should get into cover NOW.

Take the beagle, grab the cat, and go downstairs, please, Raeann...please? I'm scared for you. You might be used to this, but I'm not...

Power flashes on the ground in wichita.

We are fine and have electricity still... the tv weather reports have been running non stop all day long, radar screen up on the iPad and phone! The airport area is literally at least 20 miles west of my location.

This just in: "Funnel about to hit Boeing and McConnel air force base. Sirens going off for fourth time." (from Ruben in the basement)

Boeing (I can't spell tonight!) has been hit hard.

Significant damage at the airport, trees down, power out, flooding, power lines down. Do not travel in the area.

Some chasers got nailed on 47th and Oliver, tornado went right over them, they are reporting from airport now.
