Good to hear from you, Raeann, and to know that the beagle is fine (I'm assuming the kitty is, as well...and of course, your son)...

It's not over, but at least it's over *for now*.

Hugs. And big sigh of relief from here,

Have never been so happy to see that sunflower avatar come sprouting up, even though all of your posts I do read as they are all worthy of reading.

great to see you raeann....sorry about the damage....

I learned something new while I was reading tonight. The Kansas turnpike
has 29 tornado shelters along their route. Wouldn't that be great all along tornado alley.

Over 100 tornadoes reported today. Tornado warnings in Nebraska and Kansas. Looks like Texas and Oklahoma will have potential for some bad weather until 6 am.

I'm praying hard for everyone in the path, and know that those of that aren't still feel a little of your pain and with you in spirit.

I'm all the way up in MI, and I can't sleep. The wind is kicking up, the humidity is climbing (think of breathing through 3 or 4 layers of wet Kleenex), and I feel like I'm having a panic attack when I breathe too fast, which means that the pressure is weird. Don't ask me why it affects me that way, but I think it is affecting everyone else too, because we had FIVE seperate shootings in my city today, and it seems to get more violent around here when the pressure readings turn strange. Our little spat of weather isn't supposed to hit til early morning, but with so much attention focused on the rest of the country, I don't want to be caught unaware because someone missed a radar blip. I think I'll stay up and watch for a while longer.

Are there still major threats to the plains during the overnight, or have they started to pull them? I apologize for asking, but I am having trouble accessing some of the weather sites...I think they are overloaded.

The Weather Channel will be running coverage overnight of current threats, and have suspended other programming for the night.

Right now, there's a narrow but lengthy line of storms pushing by Amarillo through the Panhandle then heading NE of Dodge City. So there are still threats - this line looks vaguely headed toward Hutchinson and Salina KS though they may not make that distance eastward; portions may push toward Wichita. Other stuff certainly may branch off, with new cells forming. Not sure of anything north of these spots. Also not sure if I know what I'm talking about, after the Wichita tension, lol. But that's what the map I'm on looks like. Yes, still threats. Major? I'm guessing not but I've been wrong before (understatement), plus I'm only guessing about the areas above, not other locations.

NMK, I don't have good information for you. I do know there are a few tornado warnings still going, and there is a strong line of thunderstorms stretching from upper TX through to lower Kansas (Hutchinson/Wichita), and that could kick stuff off again.

I have been watching http://www.ksn.com/content/weather/liveradar.aspx and they're doing a good job, but I think it's local to Kansas.

Hang in there...

NMK, I am no meteorologist, and I don't play one on TV, but I just looked hard at the storms and MI. I don't think you're in that much danger tonight; but you may have some issues tomorrow, depending on the jet stream and where the "dry line" falls.

I can't be sure, but they're letting a lot of the warnings and watches expire, so I'm thinking you're all right up there. If you were in OK or KS, I'd say sleep with your eyes open...but in MI, just sleep with the weather radio on. I'd say the danger, if it comes, will come in the morning, not now.

Douglas and Johnson County KS have heavy storms on the way (the former's the home of the University of Kansas, the latter's a rather ritzy Kansas City suburb).

I'm inclined to agree, but i tend to be super cautious. Three of the four kids sleep on an upper floor, and my daughters bedroom is solid windows and we have a really big tree out front...see why I worry?

I know that there is some nsty stuff on radar near Chicago and all the way to Madison, WI, and that will be coming straight across the lakes toward us. Of course, they say that it will die down, but it has to cross the lake and they have been wrong about the lake effect in the past.

BTW: Great Idea! Weather Channel suggests putting your kids bike helmets at the ready for them if you know you are right in the path of somthing big. Protecting the head is really important, and I don't know why I never thought of that.

My son and I just drove around for a quick tour of the area, didn't attempt to go into any of the major damage areas at all, but our whole neighborhood has dozens of trees down, some broken, some uprooted. I will go out again in the morning to check our farm, but it is further north so I THINK it will all be ok....a guy who lives near there would have called by now if he saw anything amiss. My hubby was sooo concerned he went to bed. We lost electricity for only about a half hour or so. But other parts of the area have no power at all, and there is a broken pole down on the main road so we may lose it again when they come to fix that. I'll have to admit that this was the most anxious I got over a storm for a LONG time.

NMK, just following up. I asked on three chats for anything in Detroit and suburbs, and there is nothing for that area. Also, nothing for Michigan at all.

There are some reports of warming weather in parts of Kansas, but I don't see any fluctuations heat wise in Michigan. And, the radar looks clean.

Head to bed, darlin. Relax, take the weather radio with you, but go on to bed. You should be fine.
