Sex Workers Want Respect

If they're hooked on drugs, I seriously doubt that they have much self-respect. :truce:
I was pointing out there are high functioning prostitutes not hooked on drugs.

Sorry. I misunderstood. You're right :blushing:

I've known a few girls who were prostitues in my time. None of them were hooked on drugs until after they started hooking.

If a prostitute is pretty and nicely built I'd rather she did exotic dancing. At least she doesn't take the risks that a prostitute on the street does, and she doesn't have to have sex with a paying customer.

Just out of curiosity... are you also anti-choice?

Seems I'm saying I feel a woman should be allowed to *choose* what to do with her body, no?

And some women do it just because they can make a TON of money, they like sex and don't feel degraded.

Some are as beautiful as models, college educated and have high class clients.

Some make several hundred dollars for a half an hour of their time!

I know someone who did this for 1 year and was able to buy a house outright!
She NEVER has to worry again about having a place to live.

She respects herself for that! She earned her home.

I found it to be an odd statement, and was curious about your stance, that's all. I've found that alot of anti-choice folks also seem to hate welfare, and suppose I jumped to conclusions.

Yeah, but she doesn't get to keep all of it. Her pimp get's most of it...unfortunately.

There are many alternatives to selling your body for sex, plus once their looks go so do most of their clientel. It's a very hard "profession" to get out of and a very dangerous one.

I guess this reads differently then I meant it to! I do not DISrespect parents that need help from the system.

My mother was on welfare when I was a child... But she also got *off* of welfare- didn't live off of it. She used it as the stepping stool it was created to be.

On the flip side of that, my foster son's Bio. mother got pregnant again simply because her WIC and food stamps would stop coming when her other child turned 5.

I'm sorry it came across the way it did... that wasn't what I meant. It's tough with computers sometimes getting across what it is you want to say.

Oh, I see what you are saying now. I, too, used welfare the way it was intended, and went on to pay a hell of a lot more in taxes than I ever took out of the system! In Michigan, there is a two year limit on welfare benefits, and I believe (I could be wrong about this part, but am pretty sure) that there is a four year lifetime limit.

Not always. I happen to know that with the higher class "call girls" they get (with the one I know about) $300 + an hour and only have to give their "boss" 20% of what they earn. Plus their tips are their own to keep.

Other then street walkers, I don't know of anyone that stays in this pofession for very long. A year or 2 at most. In that amount of time you'd be amazed the money you could save and it you invested it properly, you'd then be ABLE to get more schooling and get a real good that pays decent money and can offer health benifits, 401K, etc...

I agree with you 100% when you talk of the dangers that come with this job but many jobs have dangers. My hubby is a heavy truck mechanic- I worry about him every time he has to pull a transmision from one of those damn things- they weigh a thousand pounds! Could kill him in a split second!

Maybe the "dangers" wouldn't be so great if it were legalized.

In Thailand, for instance, they go to "massage parlors", to get a "massage". I think it's legal, but I'm not sure; I'd have to look it up. Beautiful women. It's just part of the society.

Thailand has a really nice society, too. IMO.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think Thailand is a good example. They have a huge sex trade industry in which many young girls are forced into. I don't know if it is legal there or not, I only know that American tourists are partially responsible for helping it to thrive.

Could be true; I'm judging from Thailand many years ago, say '70. My son went there recently, but he was with his girlfriend and I doubt participated.

I don't think it would make a difference. There are just some really sick men out there that prey on these women. Legal or not. When I lived in Nevada (and it's legal there) the prostitutes would still show up in the ER.

They just did an expose on Thailand recently (20/20 or one of those shows). Little girls as young as 5 years old were forced into prostitution! They had this guy on there, an American, who traveled to Thailand just so he could have sex with a little girl.

Sick pervs like him should be shot IMO.
