Thank you for the update! Extremely tragic I’m glad there’s finally an arrest. I hope she and her baby can rest a little easier now that he won’t be a danger to the public anymore, he no longer will have his freedom, his loved ones know what he did, and he’s facing Earthly justice before escaping the world. Rest in peace Amanda & baby.

Shannon L. Wilkerson, 42, is charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 3, 2001 death of Pfc. Amanda Gonzales, of Texas, at Fliegerhorst Kaserne, then an Army base in Hanau, Germany, the Justice Department said. ''According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, on Nov. 3, 2001, Shannon L. Wilkerson, 43, beat and strangled Amanda Gonzales to death in her barracks room at Fliegerhorst Kaserne, then a U.S. Army base in Hanau, Germany. Wilkerson was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces at the time of the offense but was later discharged.

“The defendant violently beat and murdered Amanda Gonzales—a fellow soldier who was pregnant at the time—at a U.S. Army base in Germany in 2001,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri, head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “His conviction yesterday, more than two decades later, is a testament to the Justice Department’s unrelenting pursuit of justice. Many dedicated law enforcement officers and prosecutors persisted for years, pursuing every available lead and never wavering in their search for evidence to hold the victim’s killer to account for his heinous crime.”

Shannon L. Wilkerson, right, was sentenced Oct. 24, 2024, to 30 years in prison for the murder of 19-year-old Amanda Gonzales, a fellow soldier, Nov. 3, 2001, at Fliegerhorst Kaserne, then a U.S. Army base in Hanau, Germany. (U.S. Army; Escambia County Jail)
''An American veteran who was serving at a since-closed U.S. Army base in Germany when he killed a female fellow soldier two decades ago was sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to the Justice Department.

Shannon L. Wilkerson, 44, was convicted in May of second-degree murder in the death of Amanda Gonzales, 19. His sentencing was Thursday in federal court in Florida, the DOJ said in a statement the same day.''

''Evidence introduced at trial indicated that Wilkerson, who was married to another soldier at the time, feared that he was the father of Gonzales’ unborn child and that his infidelity would damage his military career, the Justice Department said.''
