We could have used some excitement DURING the speech.

I have no idea what Cindy's son would want as only Cindy and his close family members can attest to what they think he would want.
I know I have a close loved one in Iraq right now, on his 2nd tour, and he has never shared with any family member what he thinks of the war - he does his job. In fact he just was given an award for soldier of the quarter with his unit and I am damn proud. That said - I support any American for speaking out on their views of the war - I am opposed to the war while still supporting the brave men and women who serve.

most service men would be mortified by this ....

Hubby was Army and after a few army mistakes that cost lives he made me swear to never make an issue if something happend to him..
he felt it would diminish his feelings of pride towards his job and what others thought of how deticated he was.

A unit I support just buried a 24 year old medic who stopped to help a wounded Iraqi man. He was blown to bits for his efforts by an IED. It was a trap. He gave his young life trying to help some stranger in a foreign land because he saw how oppressed the people over there are. He thought the injured man would get passed by, left to die. Do you see the gratitiude for his efforts? We are not dealing with rational, civilzed people over there. It is essentially guerilla warfare. This young medic's parents are absolutely mortally wounded as well, but ya know what? They know why their son did his job and why he loved that job. He is a proud American soldier! No one, not no one, should desecrate that! None of us want to see the kind of cowardice war play that is a way of life in the Middle East happen here in our own streets. Fight them there...or here? Whatcha think? So many people sit over here on your nice comfy couch and toss judgement around about what should be going on over there. You really have no idea.

If I could get a hold of Cindy Sheehan, I would slap the piss out of her :slap:

and I'm not even the violent type...

She has a right to free speech, you know. If she was arrested because of something her shirt said, then what's happening to our rights?

Besides....asking how many more will die is DEFINITELY a valid question.

I have no idea why Cindy's message causes so much hate.
Soldiers can disagree with her, Americans on the home front can disagree with her or support her - she won't change anyones opinion.
She is doing what she thinks is right and the rest of us can do what we think is right. I am opposed to the war but I don't presume to think I speak for anyone but me.
I think anyone of us that feels strongly should stand up and support our position - that is American as apple pie.
I don't toss judgements around from my sofa - I have an opinion and a loved one I pray everyday comes home safe and sound. I wish I had a comfort zone for judgements! I IM most every day with my loved one in Iraq so I do have an idea of what is going on from the only vantage point I can have - through his eyes and Im's and my TV.
From what I can see Cindy is not sitting on a sofa either - she is out expressing her opinion. I don't always agree with her but I do believe in her right to express her opinion.

And one no one has the answer to because war is not cut and dry. Instant gratification has become a way of life for all of the fishbowl people out there. It is so much bigger than you can imagine and not easily solved.
Any American soldier would tell you...as many as it takes for it not to ever happen here on our soil again. You want to pi$$ off the American military? Attack our country. If we fail over there, we fail over here. The people who wear the uniform in this country take any proposed retreat as a personal failure. They sign up to fight for us. They know the dangers. Do you want someone who has nothing to do with your job coming in from the outside to judge your job performance and tell you when it's time to be done? Let them do their job and support them. Bush is not over there. She is not offending Bush. But I can tell you that out of the 600 or so soldiers I have had the pleasure to meet, not one of them has ANY respect for who Cindy Shehan is.
What does that tell you? Speaks volumes to me....

I never asked my loved serving in Iraq what he thinks of Cindy. He will be home 02/14 for a 2 week break after serving 6 months of probably 18 maybe 12 months on his 2nd tour of duty with the 101st.
I will be sure to post his comments. I could ask him on IM but I prefer to keep that light.

No matter what his opinion though it does not change anothers right to free speech.

I didn't mean any one in particular when I said that MIC...I can't fault you for anything, ever...you're a Steelers fan! Me too! I will be sure to include your loved one in my daily meditations for safe keeping. I always close my eyes and send a wish up to the heavens when I here of another bomb in Iraq because I know so many friends over there. I hate to see our people give their life in war too but I, as you, support them. I just don't think that is the message Cindy is sending and I resent her for that.

Cindy does nothing for her cause except make herself look looney.

Being one of 7 democrats in Utah I can say I am disgusted by her behavior. She is not doing herself any favors by behaving this way IMO.

Ok ember, I am going to click on your "meet your meat" link. Wish me luck. LOL.
Sorry. off topic Whoops.

All right I cant disagree with a Steelrs fan!! I dont know that I agree with her - I don't listen to her. No offense intended towards her - I just have too much of Iraq in my own life to listen.
I pray every single day for all of them. Unitl recenlty I had in my sig line "If you cant stand behind our troops then stand in front of them!"
And its on my car bumper too!
I am online with Derek now. God Bless 'em!

From what I saw today on the news, she was wearing inappropriate dress, AND caused a scene. Whatever her cause, that is not the place for causing a scene. It has to do with respect. IMO. She does this to get the media attention; it worked (again) as here we are today reading about it and seeing it on the news.

I had to ask myself - if it were someone else wearing an anti- Hillary or Bill shirt, ETC when Clinton was President, and causing a scene, would that have been allowed? Hardly. So it's not just against Cindy and/or her anti-war sentiment.

We've already been alerted here at work about the April 4th protests, etc. starting in the Dallas area and coming back to Crawford. Yipee. Guess April 4th is the 3 yr anniversary of Crawford's Peace House (or at least that's the day they're celebrating it); it's the anniversary of Casey Sheehan's death (I do feel bad for his mother in that regard); and it's either the day or near the day that protesters are going to be doing the "anti-consumption" boycott.

...Delp, 42, of Carlisle, Pa., and a friend had just settled into their seats when four Capitol security guards approached them. Delp said at the time that he was ordered to button his coat and follow the guards. Outside the chamber, he was told "several people felt threatened by your shirt."

Even after establishing that Delp was a guest of Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), the guards wouldn't let him back in and escorted him to a basement security area, where they questioned and photographed him.

After being given one of the photos as a souvenir, Delp said he was banned from the Capitol for the rest of the day. "They were polite and professional," Delp added, "but they really did scare me. I think I should have been given the chance to cover up."

The wife of Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, told a newspaper that she was ejected during the State of the Union address for wearing a T-shirt that says, "Support the Troops Defending Our Freedom."

Thanks, IdahoMom! You are quick to find those interesting articles. Glad to see precedence was set earlier. I hope more of the MSM picks up on that today, so that it is more balanced in the media. AND the part about her causing a scene, or "inappropriate behavior." It wasn't just the shirt, I believe.

And the second one you linked, regarding the Rep's wife being "asked to leave," just shows they were being fair, IMO. It's just not the place for it; what's next - holding up signs and banners? :slap: Have a peaceful, legal protest outside if y'all want, but be respectful in the Chambers.

JMHO.

as a former congressional employee in the 70's, who used to walk over to the House of Representatives every work day, i can assure you that the Capitol Police enforce the laws of behavior governing the Capitol irregardless of who you are.

i used to take the mail to be signed to the congressman i worked for. he would come off the floor and get the mail and go back inside the Chamber. i would go up to the gallery and wait for his signal, come back down, get the mail and go back to the office.

so i got to know the guards that were stationed at the door to the Chamber. but one day i walked a little too close to the Chamber while meeting my congressman and that guard was in front of me blocking me in a flash! i was shocked! he knew me and knew i had no intention of causing any harm, but i had breeched some boundary and he was ready to take action.

so cindy did not follow the House rules, what in the world should we expect to happen? why should we even think that she would be the exception and deserve a pass from the authorities.

My wife and I were given a behind the scenes tour of the White House which included being able to sit at the oval office desk.....my sister in law worked in the Chief of Staff's office and Clinton was out of town at the time. So the security looked the other way because, you know, what was I going to do...pick up the red phone and yell LAUNCH LAUNCH LAUNCH? :D I was shaken and very nervous sitting there. My wife stepped about three feet in but wouldn't go any further.

I despised Clinton not because he was a Democrat and I disagreed with his policies but because of the shame he brought the Country and that office and the fact he lied under oath. He brought immorality and shame to an office that Ronald Reagan wouldn't even enter without a suitcoat on. Part of me wanted to climb right up on that desk and leave Clinton a digested reminder of my visit and what I thought of him. But I didn't.

Instead, I sat there in revence of what had gone on and been contemplated in that office over the course of history. The civil war, slavery, FDR and the beginnings of WWII and Pearl Harbor, Truman and the atomic bomb, Nixon, Kennedy and the Bay of Pigs and seemingly inescapable nuclear war, Reagan and the fall of the Soviet Union. Clinton and Monica. Clinton supporters fail to realize just exactly why what Clinton did in that office even matters. Because of the history in it and the importance of that office.

But I just stood there in the middle of the room soaking in the surroundings. I kept turning around and looking at things like the hatch underneath the desk where John John was playing in that famous picture. The chair where Kennedy was seen clapping while Carolyne [sic?] danced for the cameras. The couches and the President's chair where I have seen Reagan, Kennedy, FDR, Truman pictured. My Lord if those walls could talk. I looked out the windows behind the desk in the oval office.... There is a feeling in that room that can almost be felt physically.

I said all of this to say that even if I were able to go to the Congressional chambers to hear Nanci Pelosi or Ted 'drown em all' Kennedy give a speech, I would dress, act, and conduct myself with the highest of respect. If not for the people in attendance and the function happening there, for the institution represented there.

Of course, that is me and I have class.

Amen! I didn't care for Clinton either, but the office deserves respect.

Thanks Cal for sharing your story. I'm jealous! That is definitely a story to share with your grandkids someday!

I seriously think this lady needs an intervention. I'm serious! I am so, SO sorry for the loss of her son in this war. I don't like war either...but I sure DESPISED what happened to all of us on 9/11!! I could not imagine losing my child in ANY setting much less in Iraq. I feel for her, but I believe she needs help to move on or to do something much more productive with her time in a much better setting than the one she has been in. She is presenting herself like a woman who's gone over the edge. Everytime I see her on the news, I have to move on. She is just acting crazier and crazier, IMO. I am not in her position and cannot know what she feels but I sure can see how she acts and that's C-R-A-Z-Y!! IMO, of course.
