Okay kids, WAKE UP!!!

I found this article quite interesting, this is a very small part of it...

Despite the differences among these scenarios, there is a common profile of men who have killed their wives and children. Most are white males in their 30s or 40s who react badly to stress and who view their families as extensions of themselves. They typically use a firearm or knife that they have owned for some time. Often they're depressed or intoxicated. Invariably they're described as controlling and quite dependent on their families being what they envision, and believing that they are the only ones who can fulfill the family's needs.

Ewing offers a list of motives for familicide, as does Dr. Herbert Stream in Our Wish to Kill and Christine Jackman in "When Dads Get Deadly." Jointly, they cover the following reasons why men kill their families:

•Losing control over the family circumstances/panic over powerlessness
•Seeing only adverse circumstances ahead in life/desperation/frustration
•Feeling overwhelmed and unable to let the family live while he dies
•Seeing the deaths as a necessary sacrifice
•Believing the children cannot survive without him
•Revenge against an estranged wife, or teaching her a lesson
•Grief over losing the family in a divorce
•Discipline gone too far
•Possessiveness/entitlement/ownership
•Psychosis
•Self-enrichment
•Projecting their self-hatred onto the children
•Killing witnesses to abuse•A joint crime with the mother—erasing the family
•Compassion
•Duty to the family
•Suicide by proxy
•Jealousy of children who are getting involved with others
•Difficulty adjusting to being a parent
•A long tradition of abuse in the family that just continues
•The idea that children must serve the parent's needs

This came from a study "Fathers who kill & why they do it". I thought the bullet list would give us a good starting point to try to figure out the motive and why CC did what he did.

Not to quote myself, but since I posted this so early... and then promptly took a nap... I'm bumping it for discussion. I see a LOT of these bullet items that psychologists have identified among men who have committed familicide in CC and in this situation. The ones I think apply are in red. I think if we dig, we'll find out that they do apply.

This is just a wild guess, but was he already being forced out of JMM because they knew about the affair? That would make him desperate and losing control over his secret affair and finances. Or if Sheri had found out, the 3 a.m. fight ensued, she told him to get the heck out and since he was no longer in control his answer was to kill her. The boys are sacrificed because they witnessed him kill their mother. Clearly he's psychotic if he's able to snuff out the life of his wife and especially his children with his bare hands or a rope, cord, whatever he may have used.

Self enrichment would definitely apply, since he already had the GF and now he could play the grieving widow/father and get attention from those that may have shunned him in the past... JMM??? His daddy? (I can see daddy issues here.) Which comes to a long pattern of abuse. If what we are hearing about that church is true, how was he raised as a child? You live what you learn, kwim?

Making a prediction. Regarding Change of Venue. I think it will be granted and it will move to either Rockford or nearby, or Peoria or surrounding area. I hope I am wrong and the trial stays in Monroe County, but, I doubt it. And they may actually pick a jury in another area, and bring them back to Monroe County and keep them sequestered.

I would guess they would move it to Springfield, IL before Rockford or Peoria.

While all expert witnesses are paid a fee to testify, it doesn't neccessarily make them "paid liars". Many have been hired to review cases that turned out unfortunate for the people who hired them. They can try to put a "slant" on it for the jury, but they won't risk their careers to outright lie about evidence. (Ask Dr. Lee...it is a very bad idea.)

Dr. Baden knows his stuff. They would be hardpressed to find someone else with his level of experience and knowledge. Think what you want of him personally, but he is considered to be one of the very top in his field.

This may not have been answered anywhere but collecting any insurance money when it is more than $50,000 is VERY difficult. My mother in law had a $250,000 boat which she had insurance on and Katrina played with it. When she tried to call for the insurance, they did everything they could to make it look like it was her fault for leaving it where she left it: which so happened to be a covered, garage-like location for boats, in a safe marina. As much as you want to think that an insurance company is there for you, they don't want to give out any money. I would also think that since the insurance company probably watches the news, they most likely know that CC has been arrested for murdering his family, of whome he had extra policies on. There is probably an investigator from the insurance company looking at this closely as if he is even found not-guilty, through the help of his evil law team, then he likely still will not be able to claim any of the money.

I am sure LE knows all about the insurance thing and will bring it up in the court.

You've got that right. I'm sure his insurance company knows what is going on, and is in no rush to send him out a check. Their legal team is probably working right now to figure out how they can get out of it!

I also think that Springfield gets St Louis television stations, at least KSDK and KMOV, on satellite and cable. I don't think you can get any St Louis stations in Peoria or Rockford.

They generally try to find a similar composition for the county -totally rural to totally rural, urban to urban, etc. Chicago and the immediate surrounds would be out, IMO, due to coverage there.

In a death it does take months, or even a year or more. There are so many clauses that they throw into these policies these days to avoid paying out, and in this day and age I think it's a good thing. With that said, if he was the beneficiary and the entire family was killed like this no way would insurance buck up until after a perp had been identified. He just isn't that smart. He thought he could pull it off, but his narcissism got in the way big time. I'm wondering if in his two weeks of thinking he was oh so smart if he called to make the claim. Now that would be interesting to know, imo.

I am so glad they are not wasting time on filing this suit. Excellent move on her family's part, imo. We also know the burden of proof is much less for a civil case.

However, with an ongoing criminal trial...will they go ahead or put it aside until conviction? Will it tie up his assets so he cannot squander them all away on his defense team?

I don't have a problem with experts getting paid, just don't like it when they lie, which I feel he did. JMO

I worked for a life insurance company for 17 years. No benefits will be paid if the cause of death is homocide until after LE has closed the case. Even if CC were free, he would not receive any benefits until the investigation was over. Insurance companies see this too often to pay prematurely. They will certainly not pay the person responsible for the death. The money will go to the estate if he is convicted.

My mom has a house in Springfield, IL and we can't get local STL stations there on direcTV. Don't know about the Post, don't think I ever looked for it. I wouldn't want it moved to Chicago, too liberal to go for DP.

How is he paying for these lawyers? I doubt he was making that much money to pay A & B's crazy fees. Must be coming from the Church? Or who knows... interesting mom & dad didn't go to court yesterday.

From what I understand they cannot do the civil trial until the criminal trial is over. But they can make a motion to freeze any & all assets until the civil trial can be heard. I could be wrong, going off many conversations from years ago with my attorney during my bro's death.

FWIW, I'd love to see that house go into foreclosure - go on the auction steps and have someone (me) buy it and just tear it down.

I would hate to lose our general discussion thread personally. It interrupts the flow of ideas and discussions, imo. Not every case needs a forum especially when it is solved so quickly. It will get very slow after the Preliminary Hearing and without any new news to discuss...interest will almost dwindle to nothing. It will heat back up when the trial starts tho. (And usually after I make this statement...it is moved to a forum. LOL)

Do you think? I would think it would be more helpful to break things down into players, categories, news, etc... I think we're going to be getting more & more info as the June 10th date comes and hopefully they will request a speedy trial and we'll be busy with all the things coming up in the next 60 days waiting for trial?!?!? Wishful thinking

Someone will probably buy the house in spite of the history.

It will be great if they can freeze everything during the criminal trial.

They do need to get to the bottom of why Sheri supposedly signed the house over to him. They deserve answers.

They get the P-D, but they also have their own paper (State Journal Register) along with the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times. Cards, Blues and Rams games are televised in Spfld, but not STL news...they have 3 of their own stations. Spfld is quite a bit closer than Peoria and Rockford, so that is why I was thinking they move it there, but who knows?

Don't hold your breath about a "speedy" trial taking place in this case! With the defense already coming out about a change of venue and the way this is shaping up, I would expect them to waive the speedy trial and drag this out as long as possible. It could be a year or even more depending on how many stupid motions they file on his behalf. They could opt to move this as far down the road as possible to let public outrage die down a bit. Ugh!
