Police: Drunk Ohio Cop Found Passed Out In Burger Drive-Thru
Sheriff's Captain Resigns After Second DUI Charge

UPDATED: 11:12 am EST February 21, 2005

HAMILTON, Ohio -- A 23-year police officer was busted again for drunken driving over the weekend and is out of a job, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported.

Hamilton police officers said they found an off-duty Greg Blankenship passed out in his car in the drive-thru of a Steak N Shake restaurant just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

When the Butler County Sheriff's captain came to, his eyes were glassy and his speech slurred, the arresting officers said.

Blakenship reportedly refused a breathalizer several times.

This was not his first time in trouble.

In 2003 Blankenship pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.

He was suspended from duty for the next two months.

This time he has resigned.

"It's an unfortunate circumstance that has prompted his resignation, but those of us who are sworn to uphold the law must abide by the law," said Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.

Blankenship was captain of the civil division for a number of years. Last month, he was reassigned to head the investigation unit.

Blankenship is due in court on Tuesday.
