Should Don Imus be fired?

  • #21
Imus suspended for 2 weeks.

I wonder if there would be the same outrage if he'd said "a bunch of bleached blonde hos?"

probably not

So what if a black "shock jock" said "a bunch of bleached blonde hos?"

Would white people be outraged?

Why is it OK when black people make racist remarks about whites, but not OK when whites make them about blacks?

FWIW, I hate what he said. I don't like Imus, and choose not to listen to him. Ditto for Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, G.Gordon Liddy, Keith Olbermann, and a host of others.

It may not be "okay," but it is not the same. Different historical context.

And if you think "bleached blonde" has the derogatory racial charge of "nappy headed," then you have lived a very sheltered life. Lucky you.

OK i am really starting to get "outrage" fatigue. ohh,, ho hum... i see you all are 'outraged' at evil whites again... *yawn*. yeah, what else is new? i am also getting sick to death of blacks forcing and bullying whites to apologize for everything. meanwhile they can call themselves the 'n' word, and a black guy could have called them 'nappy-headed ho's' all thas live-long day, and somehow that would have been perfectly acceptable, even funny.. "oh but that's their culture, they can do that".... NO ONE would have blinked an eye. typical hypocrisy. if you don't want to be called that, then why the h*ll do you call YOURSELVES that?? who knows, this guy may have even been trying to 'talk black' to 'jive' with his black listeners. i don't know exactly what was in his mind.. but please. as usual, the media will jump on any little thing that inflames and enrages blacks and try to stoke them up into a frenzy. besides, regarding the constant demands for apologies, i can think of a few things THEY need to apolgive for at this point. where are OUR apologies...????
(if you are an intelligent black person reading this who doesn't indulge in these stereotypical ways of thinking, then everything i'm saying does not apply to you. and maybe, you might even agree with me! how refreshing that would be!)

this reminds me of another incident... i was blown away by the stupidity a few years back when some white guy (a politician- i forget who it was)-- was blasted all over the media and jumped on by blacks trying to bully him into apologizing because he said the word "niggardly".. AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT MEANT!!! that just kills me!! so they said the word should be forbidden because it just SOUNDS bad! how incredibly stupid. at least know what you're talking about (knowing the english language would help) before embarassing yourself in public.
and now people are wanting to outlaw the n-word in NYC. that's funny, they will have to arrest about 75% of blacks living there, on a daily basis. sheesh.

sorry, but i treat blacks like equals and talk to them like equals too. i'm not going to coddle them or give them special treatment... even if they want it (or more likely, demand it).

No, he shouldn't be fired. Let the sponsorers decide if they still want to sponsor him. If he loses all of the advertising, during his slot, and is no longer bringing in money, then he should be fired.

It was a stupid thing for him to say.

I guess he will need to kiss Jesse Jacksons 🤬🤬🤬 now, and enter rehab in 5....4...3...2...1...

Anybody else watch Southpark?
I agree, it's up to the sponsors. After all, they are the ones paying the bills to keep him on the air.

But your job isn't to be shocking, is it? I mean, that's the man's job description. I agree with the suspension.

Along the same lines, did Limbaugh get suspended for making fun of Michael J. Fox? I thought that was horrible. Just a terrible thing to do.
That was also upsetting to me. I think he should have been suspended for that.

So what if a black "shock jock" said "a bunch of bleached blonde hos?"

NEITHER is OK!!! I don't understand why some people still refer to others with disparging racial terms.

There's freedom speech and there's decency of speech, IMO. Some things are so awful and demeaning they just shouldn't be said, even though we have the FREEDOM to do so!

The difference is a man calling his own sister/mother/daughter a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 vs a stranger calling them a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬/ho in front of him. If you treated blacks as equals, then even YOU never would not have called them "nappy headed ho's". So I don't see where you feel there shouldn't be an uproar about his remark. That's got nothing to do with "special treatment", it's about respect. This was no "little" thing. Those girls did not deserve that remark. Even an intelligent black person knows that. These were not some crackhead ho's, I wouldn't have a problem with the remark if they were. You're talking out of both sides of your mouth...JMO.

They need to do something about McGuirk, too because he called them hos.
Frankly, Imus should apologize for this looks:doh: :hand:
--lol--agree--Imus is hard to look at--and you're right about Bernard Mcguirk--HE was the one who called them jigaboos, which,to me,is more offensive than nappy-headed hos--McGuirk should be fired--and what does nappy headed mean anyway?

It's in reference to the texture of black hair, when it hasn't been straightened or "permed".

I agree. I just have to shake my head. It's truly amazing to me. Imus always has his head up his butt and says things that are offensive. Why is everyone in an uproar? Because he said something about the Afro-American race? I am not prejudiced. Nor, do I think that any woman should be called a "ho." However, Imus says crap about everyone. He is an equal opportunity offender.

I want to know if everyone would be in an uproar and if Imus would be suspended if he called our President a Hitler wannabe? I'm betting the answer would be no.

P.S. I don't like Imus and try to stay away from his show because of his offensiveness. However, I don't understand the shock about his making an offensive remark.

You're right, his producer was also very insulting. But I guess since he didn't say "nappy headed" it wasn't as bad as just saying "hos" or something along those lines. You would have thought he said the other "N" word or something. He also said they looked tough and had tattoos and all that.

Bottom line, 2 weeks is an expensive mistake. Does he deserve to lose his entire livelihood over a stupid comment? Especially given how many other stupid comments he has made in his career? We'd have to fire all shock jocks, and in a society with free speech, I can;t advocate that. Just don't listen to him! If enough people turn his show off, he will no longer remain employed anyways.

On a side note, Sharpton and Jackson never miss a chance to get their 2 cents worth in when there is a media frenzy, do they?

It's payback for the white man's oppression. It doesn't actually accomplish anything constructive or help race relations, but some segments of society see it as "OK" for that reason.

Of course not. Imus could had called a white basketball team the white trash bit*h hos and nothing would have been done. So let's agree to Imus's suspension but ignore the degrading comments made by young black rappers against women in general and about black women particularly in many songs.

BTW-You're kidding yourselves if you think black leaders such as Sharpton and J Jackson never call white people, white trash, white MF's, etc. They do.

That's not a racial slur by the opposite race. It's degrading, but not racist. Now if a Black radio personality did that, I would take offense to it, that's racist. Degradation and racism are not one in the same.

I haven't heard them broadcast those terms over the airwaves that is supported by paying sponsors who provides their salary.

Excuse me...a black person calling me or my son or my daughter a white MF isn't saying that as a racist slur? :banghead:
:banghead: Or a black dj who calls someone of another race those terms isn't racist?
Not buying it.

Did you read my post? No one should be using hateful racist terms to ANYONE, be it in the public avenues or one-on-one encounters...IMO.

ETA: It's hurtful and hateful. I know, being multi-racial, I've been called it all! And so have other members in my family. We range from alabaster white to ebony black...and that's FIRST cousins!

Oh trust me, I hate those words. My teenage daughter's best friend is biracial and the things said to her and about her are heartbreaking, raw and extremely hurtful.

I think something needs to be done about the comments radio host make. Either allow shock jocks the freedom to say it all- as in using their freedom of speech. Or disallow the racist and gender bashing comments.

They may have the right to say whatever they want, and are protected by freedom of speech. The only way to stop it is to not tune in to them. It's all about the ratings.

I hope your daughter's friend has a strong loving circle of family and friends to keep her proud of who she is. Things have changed little it seems since my growing up, and I find that sad. Racism drives me bonkers :banghead: . It's so ignorant! I just wish people could get past race. It really shouldn't be such an issue. :banghead: Growing up in a family of whites, asians, blacks and hispanics I just can't comprehend racism I guess, other than it's an ugly thing  .
