Some Unknown Uses of Vicks Vaporub

We have all heard about Vick VapoRub, one of the most widely used over-the-counter decongestants. Vicks has been around for over a century and has been used to ease chest congestion. But you will be surprised to lean that Vicks is more than just a congested chest treatment. There is a range of unique and unconventional ways to use Vicks VapoRub that people have invented. Come let us have a look at the various uses of Vicks.

Decongest Your Chest
This is the most common use of Vicks. It decongest your chest and throat area. Applying topically to the chest provides excellent relief of cough and congestion symptoms. This is effective for both adults and children

Relieving Cold when Applied on Toes
This is an instant nighttime cough relief. Rub VapoRub all over your feet and cover them with socks. Within moments the cough will subside. This I have tried on my kids, so 100% accurate. When my children are coughing in the middle of the night and it keeps them awake, I apply Vicks Vapor Rub on their chest and feet and make them wear socks. It quiets their coughs so that they can sleep and in the morning they wake fresh.

Relieving Aches and Pain
Vicks relieves sore, overworked muscles. Use a generous portion and apply it all over the aching area. It provides almost instant aid as it increases circulation.

Treating Nail Fungus
Are you aware of this ? If you suspect you have a fungus, apply VapoRub on your toenails. The nail will turn dark within a few days as the Vicks kill the fungus. As your toenail grows out, the dark part will disappear and you will have fungus-free feet.

Stop Your Cat from Scratching
Cats are known for scratching every hard surface they get their claws on. Have you ever thought that vicks stop your cat from scratching. To prevent scratching from your doors, walls, and windows, apply a small amount of VapoRub to these areas. Cats hate this smell of vicks and will not even go near these hard surfaces, forget scratching.

Controlling Pets from Peeing in Undesirable Areas
If your dog or cat is not yet potty trained, then there is every chance that it will **** or pee in any area they get. Put an open bottle of Vicks on the area the pet likes to mark as their territory. The smell will force them to leave that area

Relieving Headaches
If you have headaches, rub a small amount of Vicks VapoRub on your temples and forehead. This will help to relieve pain as Vicks has the mentholated scent which will release pressure in your head.

Make Your Breathing Easy
Vicks VapoRub can be used in special types of humidifiers and vaporizers, provided they have an aromatherapy compartment before using. The humidifier will circulate Vicks throughout the air and keep you breathing easy all night long.

Treating Paper Cuts and Splinters
To speed up healing time and prevent infection, dab a small amount of Vicks on any small cut or splinter

Relieving from Ticks and Bugs
If you get bitten by a tick or bug, apply Vicks immediately. The strong smell will help get the critter to move away and stop bugging you.

Training Stallion
This is the most surprising use of Vicks. Professional racers smother VapoRub under the nostrils of a young stallion training to be a racehorse. The strong smell deters the stallions from the alluring odor of the female pony and keeps them keeps him focused on the track instead.

Vicks wards off mosquitoes.
Apply small dabs of Vicks VapoRub to your skin and clothes and mosquitoes will steer clear. If you do get bitten, apply Vicks to the area and cover it with a Band-Aid to relieve itching.

What is in this "miracle rub"
The active ingredients consists of Menthol, Camphor and Eucalyptus oil. Menthol acts as a local anesthetic and relieves minor aches or pains. Camphor, when applied to the skin, will make it feel cool upon contact. Eucalyptus oil helps to provide nasal congestion relief. It contains antiseptic as well. So when are you going to stock up this little blue smelly bottle ?

And this tip has been passed down in my family: Earaches
Take a cotton ball and put a small amount of Vicks on it and put in your ear. Soon your earache will stop.

15 Reasons to Use Apple Cider Vinegar Every Day!!

1. Apple cider vinegar is a completely natural product. It is made from apple juice and is fermented to hard apple cider. It is then fermented a second time to apple cider vinegar. When using natural apple cider vinegar, we instantly decrease the consumption of unnatural chemicals in our homes and daily lives.
2. Apple cider vinegar can be used as a rinse for your hair after shampooing, and will aid in increased body and shine. I recommend recycling an old shampoo bottle, then filling it with 1/2 a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a cup of cold water. Pour the solution through your hair after shampooing several times a week for dramatic results.
3. Natural apple cider vinegar regulates the pH of your skin. Dilute apple cider vinegar with two parts water, and spread the concoction over your face with a cotton ball to replace your current toner. You can do this at night after washing, and in the morning before you apply your moisturizer. A dab of apple cider vinegar can also be left on the skin overnight to fade age spots or acne scars.
It is also a recommended agent for warts. For warts, soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar, then fasten the cotton ball over the wart with a Band-Aid overnight. The skin may swell some as it reacts with the solution. However, the wart will fall off. Once it falls off, the treatment should be continued for a few more days, to make sure the wart doesn't return.
4. Apple cider vinegar can help remove stains from teeth. Rub teeth directly with apple cider vinegar, and rinse out with water.
5. Add a cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath, and soak for 10 minutes to eliminate discomfort from sunburn.
6. Apple Cider vinegar can be used as a natural aftershave. Fill a bottle with equal parts apple cider vinegar and water, and shake before applying to the face.
7. Rubbing apple cider vinegar on your hands and feet will give massage-like benefits and relief to tired hands and feet.
8. Apple cider vinegar can aid in weight loss. For daily weight management, add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to 16 ounces of water. This concoction can be sipped throughout the day. Data shows some limited, yet significant, weight loss benefits from sustained daily intake of acetic acid (which is a main ingredient in apple cider vinegar).
In a 2009 study published in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, it was found that subjects that consumed acetic acid for 12 weeks experienced significant declines in body weight, abdominal fat, waist circumference and triglycerides. Triglycerides contribute to the bad cholesterol that we want to avoid.
9. Apple cider vinegar will balance your entire inner body system. The body constantly strives to achieve a state of equilibrium. Apple cider vinegar helps the body maintain a healthy alkaline pH level. Research shows that higher acid levels (lower pH level) leads to a lack of energy and higher incidences of infection. Hence, my desire to sip some a few times a day for a natural boost of energy.
10. As part of balancing the body's pH, apple cider vinegar creates an overall detoxification of the body. Research shows that it can help stimulate cardiovascular circulation and help detoxify the liver.
11. This miracle vinegar helps to break up mucous throughout the body and cleanse the lymph nodes. Believe it or not, research suggests that apple cider vinegar can help with allergies because of its ability to reduce mucous and sinus congestion. When reducing the effects of allergies, it can also help stave off sinus infections and their related symptoms (sore throats and headaches).
12. This vinegar is rich in natural enzymes that can help rid your body of candida -- yeasts that are attributed to thrush in humans. Candida also is blamed for creating symptoms of fatigue, poor memory, sugar cravings, and yeast infections.
13. Though it might seem like an oxymoron to treat stomach acid with an acid-containing vinegar, there is research suggesting that apple cider vinegar works by correcting low acid, hence reducing heartburn. Natural remedy experts say you should begin to feel relief very shortly after taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar followed by a glass of water. Note that apple cider vinegar will not give relief if you have an ulcer.
14. The use of apple cider vinegar is effective in repelling fleas on your pets. One part vinegar and one part water can be sprayed on your pets fur and rubbed in generously to the skin. Saturate the entire coat, and continue every day for a few days to a week. Any flea infestation will surely be gone.
15. Apple cider vinegar will clean your toilets and have your bathroom smelling like apples! Just pour apple cider vinegar into the toilet, and allow it to sit overnight. It can also be used in dishwashers as a substitute for dish detergent. Mix 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup water, and you can use this solution to clean microwaves, kitchen surfaces, windows, glasses and mirrors, too.

I wish I had a printer!!!! I love all your "do you knows"! There have been so many good ones and I keep thinking I'll remember where to look for them...but I don't remember :frown: I burned my finger a week ago and couldn't find your older post.

To everyone else, my Thanks button is giving me fits today. I have refreshed sometimes 2 times in a row and I still get the triangle
Please know that I DO appreciate what everyone has to say.

Speaking of 'IT'...I went over to the 'IT SITE' and they are STILL going on about her 'self defense' and how she will soon be free ...gave me a good laugh today...can we say C.R.A.Z.Y?

Crazy, uninformed or just naive.

But yes, nothing says self-defense like cutting someone's throat from ear-to-ear when they're already on the floor and they say they can't feel their legs from the 27 stab wounds to the head, neck, back and chest you've already inflicted on him.

If anyone on the JAII site is reading this... Newsflash: Jodi is already free. She is free to live her life in an 8' x 10' veal cage for the rest of her pathetic and miserable life. Although my mental image of her now has me concerned for her well-being. She's probably double-downed on the sweatshirts and is huddled in a corner of her cell, shivering from the frigid, sub-zero temps her swamp cooler is pumping out. Brrr! The poor baby!

Spellbound, the last two weeks have been busy and my reading post have be a quick scroll and roll, and I know your FIl and your furbaby died, but haven't heard of any others of yours. I'm sorry you've suffered more grief.

coffee, my sister has always sworn by vicks. She also loves lucky tiger, and just plain ole petroleum jelly. To her they do wonders.

Thank you, Pages. Lost my Mom and a special aunt the first week of April, then my former MIL, then a friend's son, and now my cousin's 33 yr. old daughter. It has been exhausting. (Dmacky lost her furbaby recently)

I have used Vicks for hubby's toenail fungus, love Vaseline globbed on my feet with socks over-night, lemon juice to deter ants in the house. I just recently made a dry-shampoo of 1 cup cornstarch and 1/2 cup baking soda sifted together and used it on one of our cats. Powdered her up, massaged her all over, then brushed it out. It did a super nice job!

I keep telling long myself I am going to save all of Coffee's hints/tips in a special file on my computer .... but my pea-brain keeps forgetting. I really, really need to do that.

Oh! You know what? I think I did read a blurb recently that she downsized her living arrangements just this past March or April. And she did it in only a few short hours. Is that her tiny house movement? I wonder if she'll paint herself into a corner? She excels at that!

I look forward to reading the article on her jailhouse renovation in the next issue of Better Prison Cells and Gardens. :D

Maybe she'll offer some painting tips like wrapping a paint roller in a plastic grocery bag and keeping it in a refrigerator overnight if you plan to use it the next day so you don't have to wash it. Remember, Jodi... for best results, always follow the sun when you paint the cement blocks your prison cell uses for walls. :D

Has anyone here ever had an overall very discouraging day? Well, of course I know you have.... which is what my day has been. I just keep telling myself how it could be so much worse. Anyway, for some reason this beautiful song started playing over and over in my mind. Maybe because some dear musician friends of ours used to play it, they had become very special to us for several years. But since, one of them passed away, and they are no longer. I really, really miss them.
Anyway, I'm going to actually play it here, but if you don't like it, you don't have to listen, I promise. :giggle:

Has anyone here read the Missing 411 books by David Paulides ? Just curious, I just started the first one. It is mysterious and intriguing...
