Jesse Matthew Jr., charged with the murders of college students Hannah Graham and Morgan Harrington, was sentenced Friday to life in prison for a sexual assault on a woman a decade ago in northern Virginia.

Matthews is facing the death sentence on the murder of Hannah Graham , last year, and Morgan Harrington in 2009.

What's really interesting about Jesse Matthew, is how prosecutors from different jurisdictions (for each of these three crimes) worked together to make this conviction happen. Without this one, it would be debatable as to whether they could 1) keep him held in jail, and 2) win convictions against him for the murders.

The fact that they were able to convince this victim to return to Virginia from India is really remarkable. Certainly it wasn't an event she wanted to revisit, but I applaud her courage and fortitude in doing the right thing for the two murder victims.

I knew was 'more to the story'... IMO She should be ashamed using the name of God in something she so strongly believes in. I believe in God and my God loves all...saints and sinners.

I think what is doing is so wrong. My son is gay and he and his partner has been together 19 years and we (the family) consider his partner as one of our own and my God loves them both.

Seriously :floorlaugh: it's just getting crazier!!!!!!

Vatican upends Davis affair with news of audience with gays

http://www.kpho.com/story/30169835/...ith-news-of-audience-with-gays?autostart=true

The Vatican turned the tables on the Kim Davis affair Friday: Not only did it distance Pope Francis from her claims that he endorsed her stand on same-sex marriage, it said the only "real audience" Francis had in Washington was with a small group that included a gay couple.

The disclosures completely changed the narrative of Davis' encounter, making clear that Francis wanted another, more significant "audience" to come to light: that of his former student, who happens to be gay, and his longtime partner.

As for the Davis meeting, an assistant to Lombardi, the Rev. Thomas Rosica, said the pope would have been given a list of people who were invited to bid him farewell as he departed Washington, but was unaware of the details of the Kentucky clerk's case or any possible implications of the meeting."I don't think it's a matter of being tricked as of being fully aware of the situation and its complexities," he said. He said Davis' supporters had "overblown" the encounter.

I'm not Catholic, but you'd have to be really stoopid to try to pull one over on the religious leader of the Catholic Church.......there's something REALLY wrong with Ms. Davis and her buddies.:scared:

Just watched a weather update, and I want to ask everyone to send up a prayer or cross their fingers for DaisyMae. As it now appears, even though Joaquin might not make landfall here in the states, it's not looking good for South Carolina. This is from WISTV, Columbia:

"NOW is the time to prepare for a life-threatening conceivable catastrophic rain event. The potential for Flash Flooding of epic proportion is extremely high.

Here is the set-up:

An area of Low pressure in the upper layers of the atmosphere will move into the southeast, it will position itself in south Georgia by tomorrow afternoon. The Low will tap deep tropical moisture from the Gulf and Atlantic…this will allow for rain to develop as the storm feeds on the moisture.

The storm will be slow to move and will produce extremely heavy rainfall for hours on end. A forcing mechanism will feed in to the system providing all it needs to produce torrential rain.

As Hurricane Joaquin moves north, the system will tap some of Joaquin's moisture as well, again, helping the system produce more rain (Hurricane Joaquin remains to our east)

Expect widespread significant flooding. Areas that flood with a 2"-4" rainfall from summer storms will be completely underwater with this storm.

It is VITAL that you pay close attention to the forecast as we tweak things over the next 48 hours."

OMG............DaisyMae, BE SAFE!!!!

Hey!

niner, how about Freddy Cannon

Yep!

1958 - Bird Dog - The Everly Brothers

and Yep! :D Hey! They were great songs from my era! :)

Looks like the Huz is doing okay in the "care" center. Just complaining about the pain in his whole body... waiting :waiting: to get his Percocet... and the "crazy" people walking, or I should say - shuffling along in their wheelchairs talking to themselves! LOL! It is quite noisy when I was there this morning/afternoon!

BUT!!!!! At least I could do one thing!! I got the hematologist to "squeeze" him into an appointment on Monday!! :happydance: I want that diagnosis back FAST!! This doctor seems to care, and I'm truly HOPING he can help the Huz! Looks like they've lost a few things my Huz had in the hospital when being transferred to the care center!! ??!!! Strange, eh?

Anyway - just came back to see what was happening here! Take care Daisymae and everyone else on the east coast!! :grouphug:

Okay - later folks! :seeya:

Actually, it would appear that the so-called "meeting" with Davis was a set up by Rev. Carlo Mario Vigano, Nuncio to the United States (having been influenced by far-right organizations), without the Pope's knowledge or approval. Vigano was sent here (against his wishes) as a sort of punishment for going outside the Vatican's chain of command while Benedict was Pope, so he has a history of not playing by the rules.

He is a controversial figure in the church, and someone whose political agendas are well known and not much in line with Pope Francis' philosophy. He has made many public statements against gay marriage.

Also, from Reuters: "While Lombardi declined to take questions on the incident, his assistant, Father Tom Rosica, a Canadian priest, laid the blame on the Vatican embassy in Washington.."

BBM

The person who heads the Vatican in Washington? That would be the Nuncio, Rev. Carlo Mario Vigano.

The article also states: "Rosica said he also doubted that Davis and her husband spent 15 minutes with the pope, as her lawyer had reported, saying "there simply was not enough time".

I also found this editorial from nj.com very interesting:

http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf/2015/10/kim_davis_what_was_pope_francis_thinking_editorial.html

There is an online petition calling on Rev. Carlo Mario Vigano to resign. I signed it as I think he SHOULD resign. The Pope doesn't need his own people undermining his good and well-intentioned work. JMO.

Should be a fun time these coming days as my cable went out for a few minutes. No cable, phone or TV ... but I survived.

Did anyone else catch Obama's press conference today?

I thought his words about the Pope were right on. If Kim Davis and her people had any conscience or were at all open-minded, they would be ashamed of how they politicized the pontiff's visit for their own gain.

Here are some excerpts:

"He’s consistently prodding people’s consciences …asking everybody all across the political spectrum what more you can do to be kind and to be helpful and to love and to sacrifice and to serve,'' Obama said.

“In that sense, I don’t think he’s somebody where we should be applying the typical American political measures,” Obama said. “The humility that he brings to this, his rejection of the absolutism that says I’m 100% right, you’re 100% wrong but rather we are all sinners and we are all children of god -- and that’s a pretty good starting point for being better.”

Amen.

If your cable goes out, does that mean you also won't have internet?

Hope you have some good books on hand to read by candle-light...

Congrats on getting the hematologist appointment moved up! Here's hoping that the results will be something easily treatable.

Please give yourself a pat on the back, Niner. Every patient should have a strong advocate in their corner, and your husband definitely has one in you.

Hope he makes it to Monday without getting too frustrated by his surroundings!

yep all 3 on one service. Looking forward to an Ann Rule book that's waiting for me. :)

daisy we, glad you are well prepared! I sure hope all the rains don't cause you more trouble.... like allergies from the dampness. Glad you are keeping in touch, and I hope you don't lose power or your internet, etc. Be safe, sweetie pie.

Wow, I can't believe all the media hoopla over this situation. I think it's ridiculous, all over political correctness this and that. The fact is, a whole lot of people oppose gay marriage, I've been a little torn by it myself, hey, it's not exactly tradition is it? Then I got to thinking, you know what, I actually don't care. Because in the end, it's between them and our Creator. If God approves of it, He does. If not, He doesn't. And since He's the one we all eventually answer to, let's let Him decide. I'm simply not going to concern myself with this sillyness anymore, because IMO it's a total waste of time. Just another media generated Three Ring Circus.

And this Davis lady who is unfortunately in the position that she has to confront it daily against her beliefs, she should just resign if she can't deal with it.

And then to top it all off, we now have the Pope being dragged into it with his meetings with this gay couple whoever, or this Davis woman whatever. Well I could give a rat's you-know-what about that too. Just one more Dog and Pony Show. What a disgrace for a country to be worrying themselves over such trivialities when there are much more important things to take to task. The religious zealots need to get over themselves, the gay activists need to get over themselves. They're behaving like spoiled, self-entitled brats, IMO. GROW UP, People!!!

But then I guess it would be asking for a miracle for the liberal media to focus on the real threats to our world and to our future, such as the Radical Muslim and Isis terrorists and all the other crazy evil nut jobs in the middle east that want to kill everyone. I guess that would be asking too damn much. Just one reason why I stopped watching and reading news for the most part, I can do without all of the nonsense spewed by what amounts to nothing more than a bunch of brainless idiot wack jobs masquerading as journalists. What a joke.

So, if this sounds like a rant, I guess it is. :gaah: BTW, it's not aimed at anyone here, it's at the whole ridiculous situation.

Update: flash floods for Charleston and North Charleston on the way, missing my area and county. Maybe 10 miles from me. Oh I'll get plenty of rain and will update later.
Higher ground where I am, so we won't flood much in my town, Summerville.
Thanks, Spellie! :blowkiss:

Glad it's looking good for you! Hope everything stays okay. Please keep us posted if you can.

BTW, how cool is it to live in a town called "Summerville?" (As opposed to Winterville!) Love that!
