“SOUTHERN THANGS”

“A real Southern girl should own an iced-tea pitcher and a deviled-egg plate.” ~ Chef Aaron Deal

“In the South a front porch without a swing is like tea without sugar, incomplete”

South-where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come w/ gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. Have a good day y’all!

Just wanted to mention some Southern movies that are real good movies: Song of the South is a great children’s movie about the South and Southern Stories.

Slingblade is a great Southern movie that shows the friendship of a boy to a mentally handicapped man with the slowness and depth found in small towns all over the South.

And we can’t forget Gone With The Wind is a 1939 American drama romance film. The epic film set in the American South in and around the time of the Civil War, tells a story of the Civil War and its aftermath from a white Southern viewpoint.

It received ten Academy Awards, a record that stood for twenty years. Today, it is considered one of the greatest and most popular films of all time and one of the most enduring symbols of the golden age of Hollywood. When adjusted for inflation, Gone with the Wind remains the highest grossing film of all time in North America and the UK

A FEW SOUTHERN EXPRESSHUNS:

1. Too lazy to hit a lick at a snake

2. So tired ah’m dead on mah feet

3. Crooked az a dawg’s hind laigs

4. Grinnin’ like a baked possum

5. Fastah than greased lightnin

6. Slow az molasses in January

7. High az a kite

8. Dry az a bone

9. Wild az a buck

10.Blind az a bat

Sibling of missing Bradenton girl Janiya Thomas to investigators: 'I think she is dead or something'

"BRADENTON -- After their mother was jailed for refusing to answer questions about her daughter's whereabouts, Janiya Thomas' siblings told investigators it had been more than a year since they had last seen their sister. They also described to investigators how their mother, Keishanna Thomas, would lock Janiya in a bathroom for up to a week at a time and beat and punch her.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office Child Protective Investigations Division last physically saw Janiya on June 9, 2014, according to a police report charging her mother with aggravated child abuse...

"She is not going to be making any statements at all," Assistant Public Defender Franklin Roberts said, saying it was her constitutional right not to say anything.

Moreland said once a contempt of court order has been enforced, there are few reasons the law allows for it to be set aside, all of which surround the Constitution.

"Unless one of the grounds is raised, I have to continue to enforce it," Moreland said..."

Execution drug shortage makes some think of firing squads

"COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio's decision to delay executions another full year while it hunts for lethal injection drugs highlights an ongoing dilemma faced by the remaining death penalty states...

Shortages and legal fights over drugs and their source are occurring in several states, among them Arkansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Yet capital punishment supporters say older methods such as hanging, electrocution and the firing squad are still viable options.

"We've got plenty of electric and plenty of rope," said state Sen. Bill Seitz, a Cincinnati Republican.

On Monday, Ohio Gov. John Kasich used reprieves to push back 11 executions scheduled for next year and one in early 2017. Ohio now has 25 inmates scheduled to die, including some in 2019..."

A look at grand juries; Have they outlived their usefulness?

"CLEVELAND — Grand juries, panels of residents that decide if someone should be charged with a crime, have been part of the American legal system since the country was founded. Defense attorneys, bar associations and, increasingly, activists say grand juries have outlived their usefulness, especially after panels in Missouri and New York voted not to indict police officers in fatal encounters with black men. Many states no longer use them and make prosecutors decide whether someone should be charged criminally..."

Crispin Glover's Still Angry About Back To The Future, Read His Angry Words Here

"...Glover refused to do the sequel, partly because because of his issues with the first film’s ending. The filmmakers’ solution was to make up another actor with prosthetics to look like the actor. Glover ended up suing over it since it appeared he was in the movie when he wasn’t. He points out, not incorrectly, that they happily recast Elisabeth Shue as Marty McFly’s girlfriend, but didn’t do the same thing for him. He believes the "fake Crispin Glover" thing was punishment for him raising questions and refusing to do the sequel..."

Thresholds of Violence

"...School shootings are a modern phenomenon. There were scattered instances of gunmen or bombers attacking schools in the years before Barry Loukaitis, but they were lower profile. School shootings mostly involve young white men. And, not surprisingly, given the ready availability of firearms in the United States, the phenomenon is overwhelmingly American. Amazon sues people who charge $5 for fake reviews

"...In a lawsuit filed on Friday, Amazon ...asked a Washington state court to grant damages against a group of people who it says posted phony 5-star reviews in exchange for $5. In some cases, the company used undercover agents to conduct transactions with the fake reviewers.

As the Amazon complaint explains, the fake reviewers ran their scheme through a work-for-site site called Fiverr. They allegedly used hundreds of fake Amazon account names and IP addresses in order to pepper the site with fake reviews. Should You Buy Refurbished Electronics?

"... only 5 percent of returned electronics are defective, according to a 2011 survey by technology consulting firm Accenture. Some refurbished laptops and other products haven’t even been touched by the person who purchased them—they've been returned because a clerk or delivery guy nicked the box during shipping. Stop Worrying About How Much You Matter

"...As we get older, we need to master the exact opposite of what we’ve spent a lifetime pursuing. We need to master irrelevancy...

Many of us are unhealthily—and ultimately unhappily—tied to mattering. It’s leaving us overwhelmed and over-busy, responding to every request, ring and ping with the urgency of a fireman responding to a six-alarm fire. Are we really that necessary?...

Many of us (though not all) can happily spend a few days by ourselves, knowing that what we’re doing doesn’t matter to the world. But a year? A decade?

Still, there is a silver lining to this kind of irrelevancy: freedom...

Notice how, even when you feel irrelevant, you can matter to yourself."

Very cool day yesterday.

Had to go into town, dumped 1/2 gallon of oil in the truck, crossed my fingers that I'd sustain a decent oil pressure.....hit the bank, O'Reilly's (for MORE back up oil), and Safeway for dog food (gotta keep the wuffs happy).

Last stop, "Fixx Bros", Mike the mechanic and his side kick.

And I sat on some steps and tried to hold myself together as they turned the engine on and inspected my truck. $849 into it and it still leaked, and the tears started creeping down my face. I had dumped over $3K into that engine previously with a mechanic in Prescott who basically took me to the cleaners, he NEVER did fix the leak, and I had no way to take him to court, 30 years in business and how do you go after a guy who services Law Enforcement vehicles? I could have bought a crate engine, had it installed and still had money in my pocket. I felt utterly defeated.
I halfheartedly told Mike I had my .357 with me and I could just put the truck down, a few shots to the engine and that's all she wrote.

Mike and his guy went back into the office for a bit, and I watched big dark clouds rolling in........more wind and rain ready to cut loose. I really LOVE the rain, but it just wasn't bringing out that child like fascination at that moment: I was thinking how I was going to be able to get back home and not get stuck in the mud, have my tires spin, and in the process seize up my engine.
Mike came out, and Karma kicked in. He was in talking to Toyota, ordered a new harmonic balancer, another new main seal, and he and his helper decided to do the entire job gratis, no charge for parts or labor!!!! I don't think either of those guys expected the big azz hugs I gave them!!!

Friday I take the truck in at 8:00, they have a big comfy chair in the office, told me to bring a blanket, there'll be coffee and donuts, and if I want to take a snooze while they fix the ol' truck, I'm more than welcome to.

Sometimes unexpected things happen, good things, things that reinforce why I treat people how I would like to be treated. It's pretty awesome.

My truck fishtailed once in the mud on the way in, smoothed it out, got my gate open, and was just getting the dog food out of the truck as the rain and wind started up. The wuffs and I watched as the lightning and rain came down, it was so cool.

Yesterday was the best!:happydance:I have a feeling the positive energy from all the SB kids had something to do with it, a very humble and huge thanks to all of you!:loveyou:
