I'll add to that. After living through 9/11 in DC where your ATM card wasn't going to do you any good, I've learned to keep cash on hand. It's great to have food stored up, but should our digital infrastructure go down, you're going to need to buy things you hadn't anticipated on; cards won't be of any use...

That is why you try to think of items other than rice and beans, canned foods, and fruits etc, and keep in mind you're going to want salt, pepper and spices - you can get dried chopped onions and garlic and herbs there. Sugar, brown sugar, flour, cornmeal and grits, oil and honey, canned milk; you can get complete pancake mix so you don't have to worry about eggs, and if you use the cornbread kits it just need one egg and 2/3 cup of milk. Instant mash potatoes, rice a roni and the knorr sides of pasta or rice, a can of chicken soup can be the liquid, Hamburger Helper already has pasta and spices. Pasta and boxes of mac and cheese and gravy mixes. A few tins of tuna fish and chicken, peanut butter and jelly. Pickles and relishes, ketchup, mustard, Helmans, baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice drink mixes. And water. Keep a 24 pack, cost two dollars and cents fifty here, you'll have some to cook with and drink.

I just realized that I can take the ingredients above and make a very good gnocchi and sauce. And chicken and dressing.

Anyway, we did our prepping way back late 1970's to 1983 and we moved and moved two hundred pounds of beans and rice, and cases of canned good, along with Spellbounds most wanted item - cases of toilet papers, you name it we had it - and I had a shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, disposable razors, bars of soap, and there was this one big box that dh cracked up about, I had forty five boxes of tampons, and I told dh I think we're done prepping for now. We gave the beans and rice and can good to the Salvation Army food kitchen, the shampoo and things to the new women's shelter along with the "mass quantities" as dh called it, of tampons.

We did have charts of the jet stream and where and how the nuclear fallout would be and settle. We knew that Dallas Ft. Worth would be gone. We had Carswell a SAC base with nuclear warheads and the Navel Base in Grand Prairie and they would be taken out , and San Antonio that has several military bases and they would be also. Jimmy Carter's idea as nuclear shelters was for the citizen of North Texas go to the Dairy Queens up in OKlahoma and they would mound dirt up over it.

When I was twenty one I worked for company that did a lot of work for oil companies and nuclear reactors warning systems, and I worked in drafting and did some of the work on the intercontinental ballistic missile systems (ICBM) here in the states in case of an attack by Russia. I never thought I'd be planning on or wanting to survive a nuclear war. What will there be? What would life be like? The air and soil will be polluted, the water poisoned, the animals you want for food would suffer and die, you'd be alone with nothing to do, but wait to die.

Mini Grasshopper Cheesecakes

Crust
1 roll Pillsbury™ refrigerated sugar cookies
1/4 cup butter, melted

Filling
2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup sugar
3 eggs
1/3 cup green crème de menthe liqueur*

Topping
Sweetened whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired

Instructions
1.Heat oven to 350°F. Cut cookies into slices as directed on roll. Place 2 inches apart on 2 ungreased large cookie sheets.

2.Bake 14 to 16 minutes or until cookies are deep golden brown and crispy. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 10 minutes. Crumble about half the cookies into fine crumbs to make 2 cups cookie crumbs.

3.In small bowl, mix cookie crumbs and melted butter. Place foil baking cup in each of 18 regular-size muffin cups. Press about 1 tablespoon cookie mixture in bottom of each baking cup. Reduce oven temperature to 300°F. Bake 5 minutes.

4.In large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar with electric mixer on medium speed, scraping bowl frequently, until smooth and creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating until smooth after each addition. Stir in liqueur. Pour about 1/4 cup of the filling on top of each of the cookie crusts.

5.Bake 20 to 22 minutes or until edges are set and centers are still slightly jiggly. Turn oven off, and open door slightly. Cool cheesecake in oven 30 minutes. Remove from oven to cooling rack; cool at room temperature 30 minutes. Refrigerate about 2 hours or until cheesecakes are chilled. Top with sweetened whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Notes
* One teaspoon peppermint extract and 4 to 6 drops green food color can be substituted for the crème de menthe liqueur.

IF YOU MARRY AN INDIANA GIRL ...

Three fool friends married women from different parts of the country.

The first man married a woman from Texas . He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.

The second man married a woman from Tennessee. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done and there was a huge dinner on the table.

The third man married a girl from Indiana. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he pees.

Madonna couldn't tell Jose to leave the house, it was his VA loan. The only way she could keep that house is his death.
She seem to live from financial windfall to windfall. It all started with the sale of her dad's home. Using other people's money.
I also think she faked FB messages.
With all the "therapy" she had, doesn't seem like much of it stuck.
From her 2nd husband on, she always had another guy in her back pocket ready to move in.
She talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk.
I don't believe Jose ever broke his sobriety.
I don't believe he was having financial difficulties that were his doing.
I don't believe he ever had an affair, his medications more than likely precluded that.
Very similar to #281129.
If Jose signed his benefits over to her when they got married, she would have been set up for the rest of her life, there is no 5 year minimum marriage requirement. I know, BF is in the VA system.

Do they have the death penalty in S. Carolina or where ever this took place?

It was North Carolina, and although they do have the death penalty, prosecutors rarely seek it.

Also, did you see the house?

OMG, I never knew porcupines were so adorable, that tiny little voice! Is that real ?!!!

"Is he REALLY “talking”? That’s for you decide. All porcupines make some guttural noises when they’re happy or when they want to communicate something – Teddy is just more vocal than most. And, we agree, a lot of Teddy’s mumblings sound remarkably like human words."

The Only Official “Teddy Bear the Porcupine” Page

"Accurately predicted the winners of Super Bowl 46 (2012), Super Bowl 47 (2013) and Super Bowl 48 (2014)"

"Voice of “Sebastian the Hedgehog” in the award-winning movie THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY"

There's lots of interesting info about Teddy at the link above!

Hi Everybody. I am so far behind and. I just wanted you all to know I was thinking of you. I have been sleeping on and off for the last week and I am too exhausted to add much to any conversation.

I am so sorry about Niner's husband. Hope the transfusions work and give him the needed oxygen and replacement whatever he needs.

Nore, I think of you often and I interpreted your dream as your son has moved on, he is in a good place and is at peace and wants the same for you. Not easy on this earthly side.

I can't even begin to express my gratitude for the love and prayers and major JINGLES you all sent my way. The recovery process will be long and arduous, but it consists of goals that are attainable with life lessons in the middle of it. I am working on PATIENCE. Patience is not my strong suit, nor virtue or a word prominent in my vernacular. Everything I wanted done yesterday is not going to happen, did not happen, does not have the same meaning to others. Expecting others to step up is an exercise in futility, so I am just going to heal. The mess will be there when I wake up.

I hope you all are doing well. You are in my thoughts and much love sent to all of you. Xo

Zuri! So good to hear from you! Glad you're feeling well enough today to post, I'll take that as a sign of progress. Please keep your goals small enough to be manageable while never taking your eye off the prize. We want you well!

You've got that right!

If someone you loved shot themself in the face, wouldn't you haul their butt to the ER, or call 911? If you left them and thought they were still alive after you stabbed them multiple times when they tried to "kill you" and threatened your daughter, wouldn't you be on the horn to the police?(She later said Jose's cell phone was in the side pocket of the Jeep, so the old "my phone was on the charger" doesn't fly)
And why would she think she could dump Jose at his sponsor's house in Jose's Jeep? It was HIS vehicle.........making sure all the vehicles stayed in her possession?
And if someone is having a heart attack, or claims they are, don't you put your emergency flashers on and haul butt to the nearest hospital or fire station?
And who leaves a gun and knife in a vehicle when she claims Jose always got suicidal when she would tell him to leave?
Where's the bruises from being thrown on her back or having his forearm forcibly on her chest? How could she stab him both in the front, back and side when he was on top of her?
Yeah, he's going to go to Florida without his vehicle, his license, his important papers, his clothes, his medication........right. He'd go into diabetic shock without his insulin, and what about his anti-rejection meds?

OH Zuri you never asked for patience. You learn it the hard way, but you will learn patience. I asked for patience one day, and everything that day went wrong. Anna (3) knocked an open carton of eggs off the counter, and every one went splat. My washing machine started smelling like burnt rubber; the belt on the motor went south, it also was on the first wash and had dirty diapers in it. I picked up my son to give him a bottle and he threw up on me. I dropped the mail and got all of it picked up in one fell swoop, except for this one piece of mail that I kept kicking with my foot and it moved several times before I picked it up. That was just the morning. God takes you through life and if we listen we learn what we need, but be careful in what you ask for LOL.

Have you ever had that small voice tell you to do something ( a good deed, don't say what I want to say, pick up that dead spider and not wait until dh gets home) and you want to ignore it? and ask why? The answer is always obedience. No matter how small a deed or task, it prepares you for a time and " your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left", and you know your safe.

Zuri!

Your post is better than seeing the supermoon and much more suspenseful :). Like Spring on Mars maybe?

Have the sweetest of dreams as you heal and holler if you need a thing.

Love and super wishes for the speediest recovery possible to ya!

During closing arguments, her lawyer argued that she made one small mistake: she didn't call 911.

I think she made several mistakes, all of which were related to her greed. If she hadn't been so focused on keeping EVERYTHING, she might have gotten away with it. Thank goodness most criminals aren't that good at thinking things through.

Even though (like in Jodi Arias' case), her lawyer argued that she had no criminal history, she clearly had a sketchy history with all the drug and alcohol abuse she shared with pretty much all the men in her life. Just like how JA portrayed herself to be an artist and photographer even though she was really just a waitress and small-time grifter.

I do think that Jose tried to fight back (despite his physical infirmities), which enraged her, thus the overkill.

I also still have a problem with her doing this at all. Her friends and family were shocked when she was arrested. How do you live your life in such a way that you can do something so heinous without anyone suspecting that you're capable of such a thing?

One more thing, the fibromyalgia diagnosis was one of the reasons she quit working. I have always been skeptical of that being a catchall dx, which makes it easy for malingerers...

Funny thing on TV today. Venus is playing in China and won yet again. Maybe in China they don't use the V letter, and the announcer twice called her Wenus Williams! Had a good laugh.

Congrats Wenus!
