That article is frightening but remember that is Charleston where all the beaches and islands sort of connect and thankfully it's not like that here. I guess we've had 3 inches of rain or so here in Summerville and am not near the coast, bridges, river, etc. My street sewers are working well at the moment and my main problem is getting my dog to go out. My back yard is quite wet so we'll see how it goes. If I'm wrong send me a fruit/nut and candy basket. Thanks for all the concern my friends have shown me.

Just took a shower in case water heater goes out, when then baby wipes will be my friend. LOL

hmmm, don't believe I've ever been to Edisto, Gigi, and haven't heard of that hotel .... and I don't cook! Can you find them online? Would you like for me to call the restaurant/hotel and see if they have a cookbook? Is the hotel still in business? Roommate is a driver for Uber so I'll ask him tomorrow.

Hi Zuri and Zoey , I've been doing housework on and off all day, while roaming around I've thought of all my friends on SB.. mainly worried about those in S.C.. and my Zuri , Niners Husband too. Hope everyone does very well soon. Zuri are you on prednisone ? When I went back to work after being so ill my co worker Stephanie said it hurt her to look at my face ! :lol: I was so swollen from the prednisone...now back to CNN for flooding news.. :loveya:

As as for the old news days compared to today.... we used to get real news without the hype. Just the facts. They were not allowed to present what side they were on, so it was never (or rarely) a one-sided slant. A today, the stations seem to be politically oriented to their side of an issue. We also watch many of the spoof shies, and get more truth from them than MSM. We tend to watch or listen to NPR and AlJazeera much more often, too.

Stay dry, Daisymae. Your pup may need a raincoat and galoshes..... or an umbrella. My dogs hate going out in rain.

I will see everyone tomorrow. Hubby has been off work all week due to bone spurs in his heel/ankle area. Crossing my fingers he goes back to work on Monday and can manage. My schedule is all discombobulated :gaah:

HI Spellbound....I so feel for you husband. I have the same thing since 1988. I have tried meds, inserts, therapy and on crutches for 6 months. I was told NOT to have surgery as it usually does not work. One day I bought a pair of Birkenstock Shoes....and the pain went away. I guess it is how the bed of the shoe is made, the way it supports the foot and that they were comfortable. They do come in shoes styles, not just clogs etc. I have bought brand new pairs on ebay for a bit less, but some stores do run sales as I know they are costly. Just an idea to help your husband walk pain free again. Have a great week end!

Apparently, that's how Scientology got started. L. Ron Hubbard had an idea about making money and didn't want to pay taxes. I haven't read it, but I understand (from interviews I've heard and read) that it's spelled out in Going Clear, written by Lawrence Wright. A documentary of the same name was released earlier this year and had very positive reviews.

You have your good churches and your bad churches, good pastors and bad pastors. Any religion that ask for money up front to join is not the one of the better churches. Scientology has many money people who join and if you don't have the money or name behind you, you can't join. Plus, many good churches have not so good members who leave the church and start their own church and take members with them. It's really sad that so many people are so money and power hungry that they form these 'spin off' religions all in the name of God!

I could tell you many stories about things that have happened in my own small community that have ripped churches apart and it was all over greed or wanting be the top dog...I have been a board member in my church and the Children's Director. We have seen good pastors and bad pastors.

But, you honestly do not need a church to worship God, you can worship Him anywhere anytime The church is there for support, Christians worshiping together, fellowship, and so on...

Jon Oliver, host of "Last Week Tonight", demonstrated how easy it was to get church status (televangelist) and tax exemption through "Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption". And his viewers actually sent in donations, which surprised even him, everything from cash to 50 lbs of grass seeds. It was totally legal and met the parameters of the IRS. When he voluntarily shut it down, all the viable donations were donated to "Doctors Without Borders".

His point was ANYONE could do it and bilk people of millions of dollars. His program specifically went after groups who taught "prosperity doctrine".

Televangelists preach what Oliver calls the "prosperity gospel," an idea that Christians can become wealthy by donating money to a church.
"They preach something called the prosperity gospel, which argues that wealth is a sign of God’s favor and donations will result in wealth coming back to you," he explained. "That idea sometimes takes the form of seed faith—the notion that donations are seeds that you will one day get to harvest."

Oliver highlighted several televangelists' lavish lifestyles, contrasting them with the story of a woman who died of cancer after spending her money on "seed faith" rather than treatment.
Oliver aired an IRS training video in which the tax laws relating to churches were called "purposely broad and a little vague." To test his theory that the IRS is not harsh enough on televangelists, Oliver set out to create his own church, called Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption.

I watch Al Jazeera too, along with Sky News occasionally, gives me more of a world perspective where I can lump everything together and find consistencies from all sources to get an accurate picture of what the heck is REALLY going on.

Anybody notice that Brian Williams is back on MSNBC, covering first the Pope's visit, and then the Oregon shootings? I guess it's weighing ratings over truth.:thinking:
