1970 - Janis Joplin is found dead at the Landmark Hotel in Los Angeles after a heroin overdose. She was just 27. I got to see her, and many others, at the Texas International Pop Festival in 1969. I still have my ticket stubs. Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, B.B. King, Santana, Ten Years After. My father said he expected to see me there.

You have your good churches and your bad churches, good pastors and bad pastors. Any religion that ask for money up front to join is not the one of the better churches. Scientology has many money people who join and if you don't have the money or name behind you, you can't join. Plus, many good churches have not so good members who leave the church and start their own church and take members with them. It's really sad that so many people are so money and power hungry that they form these 'spin off' religions all in the name of God!

I could tell you many stories about things that have happened in my own small community that have ripped churches apart and it was all over greed or wanting be the top dog...I have been a board member in my church and the Children's Director. We have seen good pastors and bad pastors.

But, you honestly do not need a church to worship God, you can worship Him anywhere anytime :) The church is there for support, Christians worshiping together, fellowship, and so on...

I have had this chat with my sister--there are several mega church pastors I choose not to listen to. She sees it differently than I. She always wants explanations but doesn't agree with my responses. There is one in particular I really don't care for--even my older sister knew not to play him around.d me or give me anything by him.

Page, I went to it also, near Macon, GA. Janis wasn't there but I probably saw all you saw and I remember Joe Cocker and Chicago.

I was 18 or so and my dad wouldn't let me stay overnight so back to Atlanta and then back to Macon early in the morning. LOL

People were swimming in a creek and some guy asked if I'd like to go with him, and I did, so I jumped right in with clothes and he took his clothes off and jumped in behind me. A new experience for me! LOL

1981 - Olympic star Bruce Jenner added the title of actor to his resume. He joined singer Harry Belafonte in their first dramatic roles on NBC-TV’s Grambling’s White Tiger. The story line involved Jenner as an object of reverse discrimination upon his enrollment at the famous all-black southern college. Sorry, all I can do it laugh.

I was seventeen, and my father did scan the front page photos that the Morning News had of the skinny dippers in Lake Lewisville; he thought I'd be out there for sure. I had my granny dresses, Jesus sandals, and my pith helmet at the time, and I was, and still am, very modest (for some reason I wasn't when I danced), so skinny dipping wasn't going to happen.

geez ... another flash flood watch for my county next 5 hours. This is really getting old!

Wouldn't mind going to the beach with my metal detector though. In a day or two, but I won't.

Some good news for a change , they found her this evening. God's angels were with her.

Officials said Rainn Peterson was found alive on Sunday. The 2-year-old was found in a wooded area about 1/4 mile from her North Bloomfield home, Lydia Esparra reported. The little girl had gone missing Friday evening.

You are so right, CJ. Good churches and bad. Churches are started by people who are nothing more than human. The bad ones unfortunately use God's name to do so, and I'm sure they are thoroughly convinced they are doing God's work, when they really are not. I was forced to go to a bad church for most of my growing up years which has forever tainted my perception of organized religion. I am a Christian, but still to this day don't feel very comfortable in most churches and don't totally trust them. Not to mention the people that go to many of them are as bad as the non-church goers, vain and petty, if you know what I mean. The quality of the people there, that's what really bothers me. John Bradshaw is an author that wrote about spiritual bankruptcy and spiritual abuse. I read his books a long time ago, but I still remember them. In spite of what I've learned, I still feel bad about not going to church, but still have trust issues and don't quite know what to do with that. Hopefully God understands.
