Niner...they were pajamas!! LOL Shiny pajamas :) :)

My grandma did not believed in wearing pants (dresses only) but, pajamas were different! I sure miss my grandma...
I can remember grandma telling me when her daughters came by (after they were married) wearing pants and she cried!

My grandma didn't believe in wearing pants either, CJ. Actually, my mother didn't wear pants for years and years. I can't remember when she finally started. My grandpa didn't believe in television either, though he eventually gave in and watched the news, LOL.

I found the Twighlight Zone episode I saw that had the scene with the lady using a dry sink area with a pitcher on a tilt swivel rod. She was actually on an old ship. So it makes sense there was no running water in the room they were staying in on the old ship.

It was a really neat episode and one I had not seen before. The room on the old ship was beautiful. I would like to watch it again someday just to get a better look at the old décor in the room on the ship. They had some really neat things on that old ship.

The episode is called "Passage on the Lady Anne"

Its kind of a sad story about 1 young couple who take a cruise ship along with all the other people being elderly people taking their last cruise. I don't want to give away any more than that as it would give away the story. If I haven't already spoiled it...sorry. :)

Speaking of the Twilight Zone, the Sci Fi Channel marathon finally had "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", one of our favorites, so I recorded it to watch. Oh, that "Passage on the Lady Anne" I have recorded too, but we're behind. Hope to catch up soon.

Just dropping in to play catch up with the posts. Thank you all so much for your kind words and condolences in the loss of my cousin. She died in her sleep from a massive heart attack at 39 years old. I will miss her smiles, the laughs, and her contagious orneriness (sic). I had her girls for a few days and they are sad but somewhat better. Hopefully time will ease their pain. Again, thank you all for being here when things get bad. Love you bunches. :blowkiss:

Nore, I hope you are feeling better and Jingles are being sent your way.

Blessings to you and your family Caylee Advocate. :rose:

Good mornafternoon (a new word. I just made it up it fits many of us in is it one are the other) all. Fixing to go to my sister and start dinner. Tonight it's chicken and dumplings, fresh peas, and a big salad. My sister does desert, so I won't know until I get there. See y'all on the flip side after I get there, (I'll be on my tablet which still insists I miss spell words.) and set the table.

:seeya: everyone :)

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Years.

Some New Years thingys to post:

Martha Stewart's New Years Resolutions:

Jan 1st: Catch up on gardening. Sew leaves back onto trees. Do all cooking for 2022.

Jan. 8: Freshen air in home by sliding a dozen Dr. Scholl's Odor-Eaters into heat pump.

Jan. 10: Make steel wool from mussel beards saved over the years.

Jan. 13: Spin silk cord to garrote squid; fill fountain pen with the ink and hand write staff their dismissal notes.

Jan. 15: Observe MLK birthday. Find out who MLK is.

Jan. 21: Culture ancient DNA into dinosaurs for nieces and nephews birthday presents.

Jan. 25: Receive delivery of new phone books. Old ones make ideal personal address books. Simply cross out the names and addresses of all the people you do not know.

Jan. 26: Review past Christmas shows and try to understand why Julia Child was much beloved even though her croquembouche was very much askew.

Jan. 28: Attend workshop on obsessive-compulsive disorders. Take verbatim notes.

Jan. 31: Gild lilies.

The Dress Code for Power
Lunching at the Four Seasons
:dramaqueen:

"When news broke that the Four Seasons Restaurant would be leaving its landmark home in the Seagram Building in Midtown Manhattan, a collective gasp could be heard in the city’s corridors of power. After all, the 56-year-old restaurant, which was designed by Philip Johnson and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, has been called “absolute ground zero for power lunching” by Vanity Fair. With the clock ticking down to its final months (the lease expires in July), regulars like Henry Kissinger and Martha Stewart have flocked there. On a recent Friday, the tables were filled with famous diners, some of whom took a moment to talk about what they wore to lunch....

Martha Stewart

Occupation: Domestic goddess
Age: 74
Tell me about your coat.
It’s Hermès. I love the color, and it goes with black. Black leather pants and a Jason Wu blouse.

Where is your clutch from?
Hermès.

When the Four Seasons Restaurant goes under new management, where will you go for lunch?
Well, wherever Julian and Alex tell us.

That’s a very high compliment. Where are your shoes from?
I think they’re Louboutin. Oh no, no they’re not. It’s a place up on Park Avenue: Walter Steiger.

I see you’re leaving with some cookies.
The cookies are for the driver. I never go anywhere for lunch without getting cookies for the driver..."

Dave Barry’s 2015 Year in Review
Was 2015 the worst year ever? Yes, yes it was.

"Sometimes we are accused — believe it or not — of being overly negative in our annual Year in Review. Critics say we ignore the many positive events in a given year and focus instead on the stupid, the tragic, the evil, the disgusting, the Kardashians.

OK, critics: We have heard you. This year, instead of dwelling on the negatives, we’re going to start our annual review with a List of the Top 10 Good Things That Happened in 2015. Ready? Here we go:..."

A New Years poem for y'all:

"Shortly before his death in 2008, the late Irish poet John O'Donohue recited his poem, meaning blessing,.."

Beannacht: A Blessing for the New Year

--by John O'Donohue, Jan 01, 2016

On the day when
The weight deadens
On your shoulders
And you stumble,
May the clay dance
To balance you.

And when your eyes
Freeze behind
The grey window
And the ghost of loss
Gets in to you,
May a flock of colours,
Indigo, red, green,
And azure blue,
Come to awaken in you
A meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
In the currach of thought
And a stain of ocean
Blackens beneath you,
May there come across the waters
A path of yellow moonlight
To bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
May the clarity of light be yours,
May the fluency of the ocean be yours,
May the protection of the ancestors be yours.

And so may a slow
Wind work these words
Of love around you,
An invisible cloak
To mind your life.

[Note: "Beannacht" is the Gaelic word for "blessing." A "currach" is a large boat used on the west coast of Ireland.]

Nancy Grace Joins Anti-‘Making A Murderer’ Pile-On (Watch it tonight)

"ID and NBC News aren’t the only ones taking issue with Netflix’s Making A Murderer.

HLN this morning said tonight it will air “evidence you didn’t see in Making A Murderer,” in Nancy Grace Mysteries: Teresa Halbach. In the one-hour special, premiering at 8 PM (and repeating Saturday at noon and Sunday at 10 PM), Grace will “guide” viewers through the “crucial evidence that was not exposed” in the Netflix docu-series. Interviews include former Calumet County (Wis.) District Attorney Ken Kratz, Manitowoc County Sheriff Robert Hermann – and, of course, Grace’s 2005 interview with Steven Avery. She’s got no fewer than nine reasons she’s sure Avery murdered Halbach..."

What’s Really Going On in Making a Murderer? A Comprehensive Breakdown.

"What is Making a Murderer and why do many people seem to be obsessed with it?

It’s a documentary TV show, all 10 episodes of which went live on Netflix last month. It focuses on Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man who spent 18 years in prison before DNA evidence helped him clear his name—only to be accused of another crime soon after his release, this time murder..."

Netflix - Making A Murderer - Episode 1

-------------------------------

There are now two petitions to free the 'Making a Murderer' subjects

"Spoiler alert: The following contains details from the ending of the Netflix series Making a Murderer.

Ever since the Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer hit the site in mid-December, viewers have slowly but surely been binging their way through the true-crime saga, which tells the story of Steven Avery, a man who served 18 years for a crime he didn't commit, was exonerated, and then was accused and convicted of murder.

Avery is currently serving a life sentence for the 2005 murder of Teresa Hallbach, but after watching the Netflix series, many viewers are a little more than outraged about that fact, arguing that it appears Avery may have been wrongfully convicted again. And they're not being quiet about it..."

Penny Beernsten, the Rape Victim in ‘Making A Murderer,’ Speaks Out

“My testimony sent an innocent person to prison…. I absolutely wanted the earth to swallow me.”

"In 1985, Penny Beerntsen was attacked and raped by a stranger while running along the beach near her home in Wisconsin. After she picked her assailant out of a police lineup, he was convicted and sentenced to 32 years in prison. For 18 of those years, Beernsten was convinced that her rapist was behind bars. But in 2003, DNA evidence revealed that Steven Avery, the man she identified and the subject of Netflix’s documentary series “Making a Murderer,” was not her attacker. While he sat in prison, the real perpetrator, Gregory Allen, remained free for 10 years before he was arrested on unrelated rape charges..."

‘Making a Murderer’ Left Out Crucial Facts, Prosecutor Says

"Since Netflix released the documentary “Making a Murderer” in mid-December, its imprisoned central character has received a wave of support, including more than 269,000signatures on a petition asking President Obama to pardon him...

But the prosecutor in the case, Ken Kratz, said viewers convinced of Mr. Avery’s innocence did not get to see important evidence that led a jury to convict him.

The series “really presents misinformation,” Mr. Kratz said in an interview on Monday.

He portrayed the program as a tool of Mr. Avery’s defense and accused the filmmakers of intentionally withholding facts that would lead viewers to see his guilt..."

Kratz, the former Wisconsin state prosecutor, told ABC News, "If some of the evidence that was selected ... over an 18-month period didn't fit with the narrative ... that Mr. Avery was the product of a conspiracy ... it's my belief that the filmmakers just wouldn't include that information."..."

The 'Making a Murderer' filmmakers just revealed major news that could help Steven Avery

""Making a Murderer" creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos appeared on the "Today" show on Tuesday to reveal a new twist to the story of Steven Avery: At least one juror believes Avery was framed by the police...

According to Ricciardi, the filmmakers were contacted by one of the jurors after the series was released last month...

The filmmakers said the unnamed juror told them the juror's vote to find Avery guilty was made out of fear.

"Obviously we asked this person, 'So, explain what happened, why did you cast your vote for guilty?'" Demos said on "Today." "And what they told us was they feared for their personal safety."..

‘Making a Murderer’ documentary depicts miscarriages of justice that are not at all rare

"...One of the most gut-wrenching scenes is when one of the characters, Brendan Dassey – Avery’s cousin, who is a shy and sad teenager with mental difficulties – is coerced into confessing to the murder that is the subject of the majority of the documentary. His public defender briefly refers to the “Reid method” of interrogation then quickly moves on without explaining what they meant. But it’s an important point.

The New Yorker published an excellent article a couple years back reporting on the highly controversial technique, which is used by police around the country despite not being based on any actual science. It turns out the method – where interrogators suggest and push events onto those they are interrogating for hours and constantly tell the suspects they are lying – is great at getting confessions but terrible at getting the truth, and it often leads to putting innocent people behind bars..."

White House Issues Response to 'Making a Murderer' Petition

"The petition to free Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey, the subjects of Netflix's popular series, was started on Dec. 20 and has reached over 129,000 signatures.

The White House issued a response to a petition to pardon Steven Avery and his cousin Brendan Dassey, the subjects of Netflix's popular series Making a Murderer, on Thursday.

In a statement posted via its We the People site, the White House explained that President Obama is unable to free Avery and Dassey because their alleged crime, the murdering of 25-year-old Teresa Halbach, is a state criminal offense.

"Under the Constitution, only federal criminal convictions, such as those adjudicated in the United States District Courts, may be pardoned by the President. In addition, the President's pardon power extends to convictions adjudicated in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and military court-martial proceedings. However, the President cannot pardon a state criminal offense," the statement reads..."

Creamed Chipped Beef

Serves 4-6

Ingredients

•1 (5 oz.) jar dried chipped beef

•3 1/2 cups half-and-half (or milk or cream)

•3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

•1/3 cup unsalted butter

•freshly ground pepper, to taste

Directions

1.Melt butter in a large pan over medium-high heat.

2.Tear chipped beef into small pieces and add it to the butter

3.Cook beef for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges begin to curl. The meat will release some of its salt as it cooks.

4.Gradually add flour to the pan, stirring until a thick paste forms.

5.Pour in half-and-half and reduce heat to medium-low. Continue stirring until thick and creamy.

6.Cook for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until desired consistency is reached.

7.Toast 4-6 pieces of bread and set aside.

8.Once desired thickness is reached, bring sauce back up to a boil and whisk vigorously for 1 minute.

9.Taste and season with pepper (salt is probably unnecessary) and place a combination of beef and sauce over toast.

Execution date set for John Battaglia, Texas death row inmate who killed daughters (with clip)

"An execution date has been set for John Battaglia, the Texas death row inmate who became a household name to many North Texans after he killed his daughters in a Deep Ellum loft in 2001.

Battaglia, 60, is scheduled to be put to death March 30.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark confirmed the execution date Thursday...

I interviewed Battaglia on death row last year for a story about people convicted of killing their loved ones.

He told me then he was “a little bit in the blank” about what happened. He denied responsibility for his daughters’ deaths.

Third body found near Yreka Creek; expert says serial killer likely

"A third body found near Yreka Creek could be evidence a serial killer is a work in the North State, a criminology expert said today.

The discovery of the latest body Wednesday not far from Interstate 5 and a Walmart Supercenter prompted Yreka police to warn people away from the area where three murder victims have been found in less than eight months.

While police said there currently is no evidence the three men were killed by the same person, Jack Levin, a professor at Northeastern University in Boston who has written numerous books on serial killers, said the discovery of the bodies in a small area indicates there’s a good chance the North State has one of the notorious murderers on its hands..."
