Mornafternevening everyone!

 Zuri!!

Re acid reflux and heartburn - I don't take any medicines when I have heartburn - try baking soda mixed with warm water - it works every time!! :D

Well, I finally got the Huz covered for insurance - Covered California!! It took me a couple of days to get this done... :gaah: LOL! His coverage starts February 1st. He cancelled his appointment for today (cancer doctor), as it was only to take his blood and just "see" the doctor. Next month he'll get his chemo, so that will be covered! And I found out that the shot he got in November (good for 3 months) does have chemo in it! I didn't know this; so his appointment next month will be another one of those shots. He is feeling much better lately! Thank goodness! He even made a sponge cake the other day! And doing a little more cooking than usual! :skip: YES!! :D

I would have thought that Nurmi already had books 2 and 3 already written...

Okay - off to do some stuff and read my other threads!

Later! :seeya:

edited to add: :snowball: at coffeejunkie and YESorNO - or anyone else with snow!! :snowball:

Glad that Scratch (my nickname for your DH :D) is feeling better (and is cooking for you again- after all, you might starve if you have to cook  ).

We didn't have that much snow today- maybe 1/2", so no :snowball: for you. It 's 12 degrees tonight- cold as the dickens :coldout:

I use lemon water for heartburn- works great (fresh lemon juice, not lemonade).

I mix baking soda with water then add vinegar and drink while it's foaming. Deep deep burps!

Watching the Clemson-Alabama game now. I'm not a big college football fan but Clemson is big in my area and everyone is watching.

I haven't been able to deal with the singer dying from cancer. When Mandy's Momma died, the hardest Parr was watching her realize she would be leaving Mandy and not see her grown. That despair breaks my heart even now and I just can't deal with that type of emotion.

Niner, I'm glad hubby is improving.

Joey Feek who sings this song is in end stage cervical cancer. I don't know if any of you listen to she and her husband Rory's music, but they sing "To Say Goodbye" and it is so emotional. They have a little girl who is almost two that has Down's Syndrome. This all breaks my heart. They have a blog "This Life I Live" that he updates frequently. So sad!! :(

What a tragedy, she's so young :( , and with a little two year old girl. Just looking her up on youtube I came across this video of her and her husband. Haven't heard this song in years, we used to sing it in church when I was growing up a long, long, long time ago.

Blessings and prayers for Joey and her dear family.

Homemade Egg Noodles

1 egg
2 egg yolks
3 Tbsp cold water
1 tsp salt
2 c. flour
Beat the eggs until light and fluffy. Add the remaining ingredients. Knead until smooth.
Roll out on a floured surface to about 1/8" thickness. Cut into strips- You can store them in the fridge for 2-3 days or in the freezer for 1-2 months. Cook 7-9 minutes in boiling water. (My grandma always let the noodles dry out some before she cooked them).

Simple Yorkshire Pudding

Ingredients

•3 large eggs

•1 1/2 cups whole milk

•1 1/2 cups flour

•3/4 teaspoon table salt

•3 tablespoons beef fat

1. Whisk the eggs and milk into a large bowl until well combined. In a separate bowl, combine salt and flour, then add gradually into the egg mixture. Whisk quickly until the flour is incorporated and the mixture is smooth. Cover it with plastic wrap and let stand for at least one hour, but no more than three.

2. Collect the fat from the roast. If you’re collecting the fat from a fresh roast, the best time to do it is after the roast has been in the oven for an hour, and while the roast rests. Whisk 1 tablespoon of beef fat into the batter until it’s bubbly and smooth. Transfer the batter to a large measuring cup or pitcher.

3. Measure 1/2 teaspoon of beef fat into each cup of a standard muffin pan. Once the roast is out of the oven, set the oven to 450 degrees. Place the pan into the oven to heat for 3 minutes. Quickly remove the pan from the oven, close the door, then divide the batter evenly between the 12 muffin cups so ech are about 2/3 full.

4. Return the pan to the oven then bake for 20 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees and bake another 10 minutes.

5. Remove the pan from the oven and pierce each pastry with a skewer to release the steam and prevent collapse. Serve immediately.

ETA:
Here is a Tip from ME! When a cake/brownie recipes calls for butter/oil ~ substitute coconut oil instead. Your cakes will come out very moist! I also use coconut oil for frying eggs and fried potatoes. I grease my baking pans with it, too. I use coconut oil for my skin, hair, nails. I even take a small amount and rub into Squeaks hair, it shines and smells so good and helps with any skin itching he may have.

Hey kids............

I received an email from Spellie about Knox.

Zuri, I wish I could be there to hug you, listen to you, and just hold you.:heartbeat: It doesn't get better, it just gets different, the piece of our heart that is lost will never come back, the emptiness will slowly fill with grand memories, love, and peace, but the place where Knox's heartbeat became one with yours will be silent.
I grieve with you, Zuri, and hope, someday, the silence will be less deafening, and a tear and smile will replace it.
There's nothing more I can say, kiddo, it's the life we choose when we love a horse and they love us.
I love you Zuri, take it slow and be good to yourself. You and Knox fought the good fight.....and valiantly.

I've been following this on Facebook.. her husband writes about it with so much love for his "bride" and how blessed they are to have a special daughter. It is heartbreaking. They do have a strong faith---God bless that family.
Oh and the song you posted I loose it every time.

Does that mixture work kind of like Alka Seltzer? Does it help "indigestion" ?

The reason I am asking is I run out of alka selzter sometimes and I would love to know if this alternative may work for indigestion?

I suppose I could always try it since nothing harmful in that.

  • #516
Yes it does help with indigestion. It is tough to swallow because of the foaming but it works for me.

....snipped for focus.....

Many See I.R.S. Penalties as More Affordable Than Insurance

"...Many holdouts have made their decisions after meticulously comparing the cost of insurance premiums and deductibles with paying for doctor appointments, lab tests and prescriptions themselves. For some healthy people, the combined cost of premiums and deductibles, which can exceed $10,000, makes the penalty seem a better deal.

For 2016 and beyond, the penalty will be $695 per adult or 2.5 percent of household income, up from $325 per adult or 2 percent of household income last year..."

This is exactly why I was against Obamacare. I would have had no problem with it IF they would have PAID for every person getting minimum coverage. But forcing people to BUY coverage that is too expensive for them is NOT the way to do it.

This is really upsetting. So the net result for people that struggle with bills is this legislation is putting a new tax on people that were struggling in the first place. And that's a bad deal.

And the insurance companies are going to keep raising their rates each year until more and more people are going to elect the TAX on their tax return. So less and less people will be buying the insurance as the years go on.

Which further means that the insurance companies will have a smaller and smaller "pool" of people to get funds to keep the rates down. So it will have an extrapolatory effect.
The insurance companies will be forced to increase their rates due to a smaller and smaller pool of people opting to buy the insurance. So with less premimums then the insurance companies are going to raise their rates even higher than they would have normally.

This is a bad deal all the way around and its going to get worse. Its going to get so bad that the majority of people are going to elect to take the TAX. And once the government starts getting those funds then their is no incentive for the government to change anything because they will surely like that money coming in.

This stinks!!!

Here is what they should have done.
Obamacare should have kept it optional to buy the minimum coverage but provide a NICE TAX BREAK if you buy it. And make the TAX BREAK significant to where people want to buy it. Give them a great deal and everyone who could really afford it would have definitely bought it.

The way it stands now is this is going to get worse and worse and we are already seeing some states with HUGE INCREASES in their rates this year.

Thank you. I don't mind bad tasting things like that because it is a form of "medicine" and when I have bad indigestion then I actually look forward to a thick mix of Alka Seltzer. LOL

So I wont mind how bad it is trying to go down. :)

A tip for people that use Alka Selzer is what I do is keep the water to a minimum like maybe 1/4 cup. Its a little stronger going down but it keeps me from having to drink very much of it. :) Just a couple slugs and its down. :)
