Husband arrested after wife stabbed to death in shower

"A beloved pediatrician was stabbed to death in the shower of her multimillion-dollar West*chester home Wednesday — and her husband has been busted for the crime, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

Dr. Robin Goldman, 58, was attacked at about 10 a.m. in the 5,700-square-foot, $3.4 million home on Lincoln Road in Scarsdale’s exclusive Heathcoate neighborhood.

Jules Reich, 61, called 911, and *arriving cops found his wife’s blood-soaked body.

Reich, who sources said had sustained “defensive wounds,” was taken into custody at the scene, police said..."

Court Won't Review Ex-FBI Agent's Murder Conviction

"The Florida Supreme Court will not review the murder conviction of a former FBI agent in a decades-old case linked to imprisoned New England mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger.

The court declined Tuesday to hear appeals of ex-agent John Connolly. He was convicted of second-degree murder in 2008 in the 1982 slaying of World Jai-Alai President John Callahan. Testimony showed Connolly tipped Bulger and his cohorts that Callahan intended to implicate them in another killing.."

L.A. to Pay $24 Million to 2 Men Who Spent Decades In Jail for Murders They Did Not Commit

"Los Angeles will pay more than $24 million to two men who spent decades in prison after they were wrongfully convicted of murder, officials said.

Kash Delano Register won his freedom in 2013 after lawyers and students from Loyola Law School doubted a key prosecution witness’s testimony.

He was awarded $16.7 million by the Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday. It is the largest settlement in an individual civil rights case in the city’s history, according to reports.

Bruce Lisker, who was released from prison in 2009 after a Los Angeles Times investigation into his conviction, will walk away with $7.6 million.

Though their cases were unrelated, both men maintained that detectives ignored evidence that proved their innocence..."

Terror suspect refused to participate in hearing, wore ear plugs

"NEWARK, N.J. – A Washington state man charged with a terrorism count for allegedly killing a New Jersey college student because he was angry about U.S. foreign policy was sentenced Wednesday in an unrelated armed robbery case after refusing to take part in a court hearing.

Ali Muhammad Brown has been accused of killing four people in two states in a fit of rage over the U.S. government's role in the Middle East. He wore ear plugs during Wednesday's hearing and was flanked by 10 sheriff's office deputies.

Brown, who has refused to leave his jail cell, was convicted of robbery in an unrelated case in New Jersey last year. He received a 36 1/2-year sentence in that case on Wednesday...

Brown also faces three aggravated murder charges in Washington: the April 27, 2014, shooting of 30-year-old Leroy Henderson in Skyway, south of Seattle, and the June 1, 2014, shooting deaths of two young men outside a Seattle gay nightclub, Ahmed Said and Dwone Anderson-Young.

Authorities in Seattle have said that Brown described himself to detectives as a strict Muslim who was angry with the U.S. government's role in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan because of the death of innocent civilians and children..."

A holiday gathering, alcohol, a fatal gunshot. But was it murder?

"...The night of Dec. 20, Perez, his 8-year-old son and girlfriend arrived for a holiday get-together at Trujillo’s neatly decorated home in Damascus, Md., 25 miles north of Washington...

The more Perez drank, at least one person in the home would later tell police, the more belligerent he became. Trujillo went upstairs into his bedroom, got his gun and came out.

What happened next — Perez following upstairs, Trujillo shooting him in the chest, Perez collapsing with a Christmas tree in the background — has emerged as one of the most hotly contested homicides in the region. The debate centers on Trujillo’s mind-set..."

Defense attorneys drag Gary Condit back into Chandra Levy case
Condit ally defends ex-congressman as ‘only person who told the truth throughout’
Retrial is set to begin March 1, but it may slip
Defense attorneys point fingers at other potential suspects

"WASHINGTON
Defense attorneys are aggressively investigating former California Congressman Gary Condit as they prepare for a retrial in the Chandra Levy murder case.

Throughout a court hearing Wednesday, attorneys repeatedly invoked Condit’s name while they pressed prosecutors to turn over material involving the former lawmaker.

They are seeking everything from FBI interview notes to a photograph of Condit that Levy allegedly kept on her desk at work.

“We would love to know that we had the entire Gary Condit file,” defense attorney Eugene Ohm said.

Condit, in turn, is denying any hint of criminality and raising questions about the integrity of the underlying law enforcement investigation into Levy’s 2001 death...

Condit testified at the 2010 trial that he’d had nothing to do with Levy’s death, and he was never charged or named as a target of investigators.

Now, as they prepare for a new trial March 1, Guandique’s defense attorneys are suggesting that they will name Condit as one of several possible alternative suspects.

Lawyers sometimes call this a “third-party culpability” defense, in which they raise a “reasonable possibility” that someone other than the defendant may be guilty..."

Chinese nanny admits killing baby's parents in grisly case

"..."It's true, I killed them, and I will regret it for the rest of my life," the diminutive Hui Zhang, 34, said at the start of the hearing.

Hui said she merely acted in self-defence as the furious parents of the dead newborn attacked her and her boyfriend with a butcher's knife.

Her boyfriend and co-accused Te Lu, also 34, denied helping Hui kill the couple.

"I was sucked into a whirlwind of nightmares but I am innocent," he told the court.

The case first came to light in June 2012 after two joggers came upon a leg, cut off at the ankle, in the Vincennes forest on the edge of the French capital.

Several days later, a guide dog found a human torso in the same area, but the hunt for further remains was fruitless.

Police knew the victims were Asian and initially thought the murders could be the work of the Chinese mafia, or of Luka Rocco Magnotta, a Canadian convicted of killing and dismembering a Chinese student who spent time in Paris.

But before the bodies could even be identified, Hui and Te turned themselves in.

Hui told police she had been babysitting a two-month-old baby who died in his sleep...

The trial will continue until Friday (in Paris)"

Justices Say Kansas Court Wrongly Overturned Death Sentences

SCOTUS has ruled in favor of Kansas officials seeking to reinstate the death penalty for three men.

"...The justices ruled 8-1 that the Kansas Supreme Court was wrong to overturn the sentences of Jonathan and Reginald Carr, and Sidney Gleason, who was convicted in a separate case.

The state court said juries in both cases should have been told that evidence of the men's troubled childhoods and other factors weighing against a death sentence did not have to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. The lower court also had ruled that the Carr brothers should have had separate sentencing hearings instead of a joint one.
The Supreme Court said the Kansas court's reasoning was flawed on both counts...

Scalia said jurors at the sentencing phase heard plenty of evidence "of how these defendants tortured their victims, acts of almost inconceivable cruelty and depravity described firsthand for the jury by the lone survivor."

Prosecutors in the Carr case said the brothers were responsible for a night of mayhem and murder in 2000 when they broke into a Wichita home and, over the course of several hours, forced the three men and two women there to have sex with each other and later to withdraw money from ATMs.

The women were raped repeatedly before all five were taken to a snow-covered soccer field and shot in the head. One woman survived a gunshot wound to the head after the bullet was deflected by a plastic hair clip..."

Unprecedented public inquiry into Judge Camp could end victim blaming in Canada

"The Lawyers Weekly reported Jan. 20 for their Jan. 22 issue on an unprecedented and intriguing case that could change the way Canada handles victims of abuse or assault in the future. And given where sexual assault statistics and domestic violence statistics stand today, it almost seems like it’s about time someone was made an example of. This time, it’s not who you would expect.

The Lawyers Weekly is reporting that this time, the person that is being made an example of is Judge Camp, a judge out of Calgary, Alberta. He is being accused of calling a rape victim “the accused” in a rape ruling, and in addition to many other things, asking her why she didn’t just keep her knees together. He may lose his spot on the bench for it, which has never happened in Canada...

This case is setting a precedent very loudly and clearly that Canada stands behind their victims, and that Canada is a country that just says no to victim blaming. The Lawyers Weekly reported in their Jan. 22 issue that Judge Camp of Calgary, Alberta, is now facing public inquiry over a rape ruling where he referred to a rape victim as “the accused” and asked her why she didn’t just keep her knees together..."

Motion: Attorneys ask for new trial in Shayna Hubers case after discovering jury member was felon

"NEWPORT, Ky. – The attorneys for Shayna Hubers are asking for a new trial after discovering a convicted felon served on the jury that found her guilty, according to a motion filed Friday.

Hubers, 24, was convicted last year of killing her former boyfriend. A judge sentenced her in August to 40 years in prison. She was ordered to serve a minimum of 85 percent of the sentence, meaning she would not be eligible for parole for 34 years.

But that may not be the end of Hubers’ story.

According to a motion filed in Campbell County Circuit Court, Juror No. 483 did not disclose he was a convicted felon – and therefore, was not qualified to serve on a jury..."

East Coast braces for major winter storm, but will the snowpocalypse actually come?

"The East Coast could be in for its first major winter storm of the season, with forecasters predicting a weekend of heavy snow, high winds and coastal flooding from Virginia to Maine.

Winter storm watches have been posted in parts of the mid-Atlantic as officials in Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston are bracing for blizzardlike conditions along the I-95 corridor beginning as early as Friday. A blizzard watch has already been issued for the D.C. metro area.

Up to 50 million people could be affected by the storm, which already has a name: Jonas...

"There remains considerable uncertainty regarding snow amounts on the northern edge of Jonas' snow shield from Pennsylvania to southern New England," Weather.com noted...

"Colossal storm to unload a foot of snow from D.C. to Philadelphia, NYC," AccuWeather.com declared...

Ghosts again:

Perfectly Preserved Historic Mansion, With Cleaning Ghosts, Asks $525K

"The 10,000-square-foot Fay mansion hasn’t been for sale in more than a century. Now it’s asking just $525,000.

Apparently, the historic property, which used to be a social club, even comes with ghosts in the attic – and these aren’t just any ghosts; these are cleaning ghosts.

Leslie Piermarini, the former bar manager with the social club, offers this as proof of the legend: There are no cobwebs in the attic, as though the former servants are still around cleaning it.

The 1884 mansion, about 50 miles northwest of Boston in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, was built for industrialist Charles Flagg Fay, whose daughter Lucy inherited it. (And Alice, Lucy’s sister, is said to be one of the ghosts.) She donated it in 1910 to become the members-only Fay Club bar and restaurant, which remained in continuous operation until last summer. Under straining costs and waning membership, the club shut down in June, according to the Sentinel & Express..."

Is It Better to Die in America or in England?

"WE frequently hear complaints about how people near the end of life are treated in America. Patients are attached to tubes and machines and subjected to too many invasive procedures. Death occurs too frequently in the hospital, rather than at home, where the dying can be surrounded by loved ones. And it is way too expensive. Each year, the care of dying seniors consumes over 25 percent of Medicare expenditures.

Death in America is frequently compared unfavorably with death in other countries, where people may not be as focused on extending life with every possible intervention. As Ian Morrison, the former president of the Institute for the Future, once wrote: “The Scots see death as imminent. Canadians see death as inevitable. And Californians see death as optional.” He added, “Americans and the American health care system are uncomfortable with the inevitability of mortality.”...

We just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association the first systematic international comparison of end-of-life care for patients dying with cancer. We focused on cancer because, in developed countries, it is the second leading cause of death and the most expensive per patient. The good news is that, despite perceptions, the United States is actually not the worst when it comes to caring for these patients. In fact, on some important measures, we provide the best in end-of-life care...."

Unequal Lives, Unequal Deaths

"...Death may be humanity’s great equalizer, but the inequalities suffered in life – leading to a shorter life expectancy – become inequalities in the experience of dying as well...

My patients offer a vivid lesson in accepting inexplicable circumstances and choosing to live the best they can. I witness their hard-won wisdom and dignity and strength – and I know that these, too, are not things hospice can provide. Wisdom and dignity and strength have nothing to do with social or economic status or one’s neighborhood. Yet they are perhaps the most essential components to the very private, internal process of making peace with life as part of the process of dying...

We need to provide all patients – not only those who enjoy socioeconomic stability – with the comfort and dignity they deserve at life’s end, regardless of the inequalities that have shaped their lives."

Newly Discovered Trench In Loch Ness Is Just The Right Size For A Monster

"Is this the home of the legendary Loch Ness Monster?

A boat captain in Scotland claims to have discovered a previously unknown trench at the bottom of Loch Ness that's more than 100 feet deeper than the loch's official depth.
Keith Stewart of Jacobite, a company that runs sightseeing cruises, even claims to have had a possible Nessie sighting on sonar.

"I wasn’t really a believer of the monster beforehand," Stewart told the Scotsman, "But two weeks ago, I got a sonar image of what looked like a long object with a hump lying at the bottom. It wasn’t there when I scanned the loch bed later."..."

the 80-Year-Old Who Runs the World's Coolest Train

"Eugene Bostick, an 80-year-old retiree in Fort Worth, Texas, spends his days operating what just might be the coolest train in the world.

His homemade dog train takes rescued strays out for fun rides around the neighborhood and in the surrounding woods.

Eugene and his brother Corky live on a dead-end street where many locals bring their unwanted dogs to leave them behind. Eugene began adopting them and taking them for rides with his tractor.

“We started feeding them, letting them in, taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for them to live,” Eugene said.

“I seen this guy with a tractor who attached these carts to pull rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train.’ I’m a pretty good welder, so I took these plastic barrels with holes cut in them, and put wheels under them and tied them together,” Eugene continued. “Whenever they hear me hooking the tractor up to it, man, they get so excited.”.."

I read that book - "If I Did It" - when the Goldman's released it... :book:

:seeya:

(snipped)

How did you like the book? (I never read his book).

Why do some murderers think juries/people are stupid (well- his jurors were- just like the 13 in Florida, IMO) and these murderers get into a "fog" (or as the article states, the Fatal Fugue) and can't remember the actual murder? And it was Nicole's fault (or Travis'). Such hog-wash. :gaah:

Sounds just like the AZ murderer to me.

Murder, He Wrote (Sort Of) - JANUARY 31, 2007

"...Which brings us to the now-notorious Chapter Six, "The Night in Question," the memoir's money shot—the reconstruction of the double homicide as siphoned through Simpson's hazy recall and his ghostwriter's novelettish imagination. If I did it, this is how it was done, this chapter purports to show....

—cut—

—the movie screen goes dark as Simpson conveniently blinks out, emerging from a partial, perfectly timed coma to find himself painted with blood, the slashed bodies of Nicole and Ron Goldman crumpled at his feet. How'd all this blood hop on the front of his clothes? Why is his knife so bloody? He stands there dumbstruck as if he had just beamed down from Star Trek transport and duhs that none of this "computed." Fans will recognize this gambit as that old film noir–pulp novel standby, the Fatal Fugue: the blood-soaked blackout where everything's a blur—a bad dream that turns out to be horribly real—a Kafka-esque hangover where one's hands seem to belong to a stranger and the pounding in one's head is echoed by the police pounding at the door. Only in film noir the blood-soaked suspect is usually innocent, the victim of a setup. Here it seems more of a tricky psychological, legalistic escape hatch. The "hypothetical" scenario allows Simpson to have it both ways, to put himself at the crime scene with motive, opportunity, and furious velocity, yet dissociate himself from the actual stabbings, as if the murders somehow committed themselves while he happened to be there holding the knife. (Shakespeare's Macbeth: "Art thou but / A dagger of the mind, a false creation, / Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?") ...

After finishing If I Did It, I didn't feel any inward swelling of moral outrage or righteous disgust, didn't hatch any profound insights into sex, race, and violence in America—I just wanted everyone connected with it to go away.."

"He" is my SIL, and like I said, I wish I could clone him. He's a licensed building engineer by trade, so he can do ANYTHING! But more than that he's sweet and handsome and good natured. I've known a lot of great repairmen who could do a good job, but left much to be desired in the charm department. You put up with those guys because you're desperate and so very grateful that they showed up at your door. But having someone like my SIL is something I never could have anticipated. Just goes to show that the rewards for all that hard work you put into raising your kids doesn't stop with them becoming good people; they also attract good people!

I'm going to go with the island in the Bahamas. Not only is it nice and warm there, but that's an AMAZING price!!! FGS, that's the cost of a run-of-the-mill (nothing special) 3-BR house around here.

But I guess we'd have to add in the cost of building a dream home big enough for all of us, which would put it well over $1M...

BBM 1 OHHHHHHH- your son-in-law (not your sister-in-law  I was confused  ) OK- got it.

BBM 2 The Queen MUST have her own little hut. :dramaqueen:

:floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

Well we all know that Y/N supports the squirrels hahaha

btw..I totally forgot to thank y'all for the past post last few day...I do appreciate each one of your post!!

Try and see if you can light the burners on your stove with a match. I can if my stove is unplugged. It's the electrically that ignite the burners when you turn on the gas. That way you can have more than cheese and crackers.

You, my friend, are a life-saver!

I know it sounds silly, but I probably wouldn't have thought of simply using a match. Duh!

That changes everything. Now, who's up for some homemade beef stew?

Hey everyone!

I don't really do rollercoasters, but the Huz got me on the "old" rollercoaster in Santa Cruz! Actually, I don't do any type of amusement park ride, but again, the Huz got me on the Top Gun ride at Great America - after we went to the bar for a couple of drinks, and than went back to Great America! :laughcry: I think the TeaCups at Disneyland put me off on amusement park rides.... LOL!

OMG, I know DC has a reputation for being wimpy when it comes to snow, but I can't believe what I'm seeing from my own front windows.

I live at the top of hill, and have seen car after car slide horizontally down the hill (whether that's the direction they were intending or not).

We only have a few inches of snow so far (the BIG storm is supposed to come Friday), but it's been so cold, everything is frozen. And these are narrow city streets, not a lot of room for error when drivers lose control.

Yikes!

Have you seen the film - can't remember what show - but it was as you describe - cars coming down a hill - snow and ice - and just banging against other cars and just sliding all over the place! Take a video!

Slept most of the day yesterday and last night. I sure did need it! I have not sleep very well last few days...was too wired for sleep.

Off to read. Be back later

My Huz says he hasn't been able to sleep for the last few nights... he's trying to take a nap right now - hope he does! Also last few days, he's been feeling depressed, but feels better today! He says he can't wait for his cancer shot, as it makes him feel better - maybe I should call the doctor's office and see if he can get it before Feb. 17th...

Maybe I could get those ghosts to do my spring cleaning or help Zuri organize her home????

Well - they ARE cleaning ghosts! Nice house, but WAY too big for me...

LOL! Love the squirrel pictures!!

It was pretty good - now I believe OJ's son, Jason, did the killing...

OK, I found one that has 19 bedrooms with baths. Do we need that many? There is one that has nine and three cottages totaling 15 bedrooms.

And I think we need an elevator.

Definitely need an elevator - unless I have my hip surgery! :D It looks like an old plantation house! Nice!
and we should ALL have balconies! :happydance:

Later!

I got Intuitive Healer and Historical Fiction. So I am the half wit of you two ;)

I think "intuitive healer" is pretty cool (and fitting). "Mastermind" sounds potentially sinister... JMO
