To all you wonderful Websleuthers who are smoking and trying to quit, or just now quitting, I say: Good on you! And here's my cautionary tale:

I was a severely asthmatic child and yet started smoking at age 15 (yeah, I know...what a maroon). But I lurved my ciggies and smoked, off and on (mostly on) for 25 years, sometimes two packs a day.

Then I married a guy with a heart condition (not my current spousal unit; this was the previous model), and didn't think it was fair to subject him to second hand smoke. So I quit. Cold turkey. It was surprisingly easy for me, since I did it for L*O*V*E. (OK, so we ended up divorced after five years...but, happily, I never touched another coffin nail.)

Everything was going swimmingly until two years ago, when the asthma I thought I had outgrown at age 18 came back...with a roar. Now I am on a wickedly expensive steroid inhaler (we've discussed these asthma meds on this thread before) and will be on this and a couple of other fairly pricey meds for the rest of my life. And cigs played a large part in my current sorry state.

So, please, do your best to quit these nasty buggers. You don't realize how you miss easy breathing until you can no longer do it. I know.

So I was thinking about the "what did Lee do" question that some people were discussing on this thread last week. I think the most likely answer is that, in the process of the "independent investigation" that he claimed to be doing, he impersonated a police officer or, at the very least, impersonated a licensed private investigator.

Remember Lee's attorney said some things he did "on behalf of law enforcement" might, in hindsight, have seemed like he was hindering the investigation? What else could that possibly mean? How could Lee possibly have been acting "on behalf of law enforcement"?? :waitasec:

Two other very fuzzy memories I have about this--maybe someone remembers better than I do:

1. Didn't Dom Casey send Lee an email at some point deputizing him as an official (unpaid) employee of DC's agency? Maybe Lee ran a little too far with that....

2. I seem to remember a witness interview (just a description in the LE report--not a witness who was important enough for a recorded, transcribed witness interview) in which the witness stated that he/she had already talked to a detective (or investigator??) about the matter. There was some detail provided that made me think at the time that the "detective" or "investigator" was Lee. I believe it was one of the "Caylee sighting" witnesses.

Great article on this subject by Dr. Glass...

"Lee was only concerned about himself and his future career as a private investigator and being sponsored and working under Dominic Casey."

I must tell you. Last night while peeking in at "friends" list, that is friends to be had I nearly fell over! Jose Baez was on the list!! Who would want him as a friend? I look now and then to see if I already know someone on there. I nearly fell over!! This is on FaceBook, :what:

Okay - WAY :offtopic:

but wanted to share this with you all:

from Steve Martin's Twitter:

Sometimes it is correct to use only one semi-colon:

Hey buddy, your fly is open ;

Sometimes it is correct to use 2 semi-colons:

My brother and I got on a motorcyle ;;

Sometimes it is correct to use 3 semi-colons:

Peter, my brother and I got in the canoe ;;;

Yes, Dom made him an 'Intern' in Sept '08.
I thought that what TL did not say was revealing, just that charges may be filed..... ie he did not say "this is all a big misunderstanding that will be cleared up momentarily" . It was serious, whatever it was, and the threat of charges apparently made him rethink his involvement.

I dunno zipptydoda - while I am not necesarily arguing with her assessment - I stopped reading her altogether just as we began the trial. I found her descriptions to be inconsistent and often contradictory too many times. One time she will say a description, then the next time she posts about that person, it will be completely opposite.

My not even valuable opinion of why LE said what they did? Taken in context to the rest of the conversation that was going on, the question would have been "what was Lee's involvement?" And the answer was "Lee knows what he did/has done" - meaning, "we aren't going to discuss Lee and that's all the answer you are getting. If you want to know - ask him."

I always thought what LA did "on behalf of LE" was talk to KC in jail with very specific questions in the very beginning when he was visiting and being recorded.

Hi John's Mom, there was talk of LA. doing investigating on his own early in the investigation. Later on he wasn't involved in the case. IMO. he dropped back when he realized she killed Caylee. As far as I see he didnt deserve to be dragged through smut.O/T I also think he laid down the law for his wedding. :seeya:

Great tip, Nore; thanks so much!

Grammieto5, she sounds very brave and is probably facing many challenges in her new life. Maybe smoking right now is the least of her problems and she can address it when her life is on a steady keel?

Hey LG, good morning :-) Last night while my daughter and I were driving over to see my other daughter play softball she told me she had decided to stop smoking. YAY!!! She said she hated the way her hair and clothes smelled, and then she said "thanks Ma for not nagging me " LOL I had to laugh, I thought of your post :-) Then she said "but I saw the worry in your eyes" Well she was caughing alot, (I always thought that was why she was so sick for so long on her birthday) She is very brave, she learned a lot from just reading everything on the Susan Powel thread. This morning we're going to get a restraining order. We have no idea what to do other than go to the court house, so we'll see. We had planned to go to the Welfare office but on Friday she got calls from to different places where she applied for a job, so not sure what to do about that. Neither offered her a job they just saked some questions soooo Well I hope you have a happy peaceful day :-)

Well that is very good news for you and you came out smelling like a rose. Just a quick comment because I work in the employment field in Canada that might be helpful. I'd suggest your daughter "do everything". Get alternate funding in place and look for a job. A job is not a job until you have a least a couple of pay cheques. In the meantime, she needs to support herself and any dependants. The very best news you can give welfare or the unemployment people is "thanks very much but I have a job and can manage on my own now"!

Good luck with the restraining order - I look to someone else to be helpful with that as I know nothing about them or how they work in the States.

Just one last comment before I really do get on with the work for today!

I know you are feeling something is missing as we start off a new month - Happy October by the way.

So just to complete your September, here are that September stats for Presumed Guilty/Jose Baez

Total w/w Amazon Book Sales September 2012: 85 books

Total w/w Amazon Kindle Sales September 2012: 149 Kindles

Now, don't you just feel more complete somehow? :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh:

So quiet in here...bittersweet actually.
No news about the major players...just Caylee. The law that honors our angel is in effect as of today in Florida.
All's good.

Thanks RR0004 - felt a rush of happiness when I read your news posting - how wonderful Caylee's Law is now in effect, even if it isn't actually called that.
All very well for FCA and her lawyers to declare her innocence over and over again, when this "innocence" has generated in new child protective law in State after State in America. And she will be reminded of what she has done and how we the public will never forget what she did - over and over again.

It's a good day!

Don't remember where I read it - maybe the Orlando Sentinel - that this bill is already being challenged on the grounds that it would violate the offender's right against self-incrimination !
In other words, you can't expect a child killer to call 911 because he has rights that outweigh every other consideration!!!
