I like Patricia Cornwall as well. I also enjoy James Patterson. Maybe it's the name. That was my grandfathers name.

There is a thread opened in the Private Members area on the Fifty Shades of Grey books
Join in...but be aware...there are spoilers in the thread...

IF INTERESTED....Check out the books "Gabriel's Inferno" and "Gabriel's Rapture" by author Sylvain Reynard...Canadian Author..books set in Toronto mainly, some US cities and Italy.
These books do not go into the explicit, detailed content as FSoG. I enjoyed the books

These books have recently been acquired by Penguin Group (Berkley Publishing) from Omnific Publishing and are due to be released in paperback and audio format soon...or they can currently be downloaded as a e-book

OK well I've listened to a few chapters. I think Miss Anna is going to get into some kind of trouble with Mr. Grey. I laughed out loud when she described his voice, "dark chocolate melted fudge carmel, LOL I think I'll listen to a little more before I go to the thread, thanks for that info :-) I'll check out those books too, I'm always looking for good audio books for when I'm sewing :-)

Tried reading Evanovich but just couldn't get into her style. When I want the combo of humor and sleuthing, I head straight for Sue Grafton. Love the Kinsey Millhone character (although the last book was a tad disappointing). A friend turned me onto Sue and I plowed through the "alphabet" series like the ten-year locusts! Too bad it takes her two years to write one. Heck, Sue is 70 and I'm 60; hope she lives long enough to finish the series and I live long enough to read 'em!

But if I want something dark, it's Patricia Cornwell. I don't mind the gore since she tells such a good story.

It's great reading about everyone's favorite authors and books; I've gotten some great tips from y'all (i.e. Tana French; thanks, lg!)

Oh I just got an email saying my Tana French book, In the Woods is on it's way. That's the one I'll be reading in bed :-)

Thanks, ZsaZsa. I have marked it on my calendar and will definitely be there. St. Augustine is about an hour away but well worth the trip to listen to JA. Can't wait. :woohoo:

Have a safe trip!
Be sure to bring a camera and a tape recorder so you can fill us in when you get back.

Nobody here likes Elizabeth George???:waitasec: :waitasec:

I do! I have read all of her books, starting many years ago. I also like PD James and read all of hers up to a point. I was always buying the newest hardbacks when they first came out. But lately I have steered away from the crime/legal-type books, I've branched out into many other types of books, just got tired of reading those kinds. My new thing has been reading all of the free downloads of e-books now in the Public Domain on my Kindle from Project Gutenberg, like The Count of Monte Cristo, Jane Eyre, Anne of Green Gables(this was one of my FAVORITES!!), Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, Count Dracula, and many, many others!

Thank you! I'll be sure to have my camera AND my phone for back-up. I'll try for the recorder, too, but not sure I can get it in. If not, I'll take extensive notes and report back.

I hope I can get close enough to get my book signed. :great: I'm a huge fan of JA. JB...a HUGE waste of time, IMO.

I will have a look - most of those I read when I was young but would love to read again. Anne of Green Gables was my all time kid favourite - I could practically had it memorized from heart, and the sequels. Yes, I bought the last book PDJames issued and just couldn't get into it all.
Thanks for the link - will have a look! That should keep me away from the bookstore cashier for awhile.

This is a tragic story. But I see it relevant here because in both of these child drowinings, a call for help went out. Unlike Casey's event. Which, of course, was really not an accidental drowning IMHO.

OMG that is so sad - why are small children not wearing some kind of life preservers when they are even close to water? I live on the coast and constantly see kids in pleasure boats without them on - so dangerous and not even legal....

We LOVE road trip reports - hope you enjoy yourself and then let us know all about it.

Yes, I just threw those names out there as most would be familiar with them. I'm going to try this one next, it is free on Project Gutenberg,

Of Human Bondage, W. Somerset Maugham

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/351

but I found it on Amazon to read some reviews about it, I HOPE I can trust these very positive reviews, I'm going to give it a whirl, the reviews say it is a very good book, and I don't think this author has paid for them as he is deceased !!!!

As I said, I'm now reading many many kind of different books, 2 I recently loved were The Kite Runner

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/The-Kite-Runner-Khaled-Hosseini/dp/1594480001"]Amazon.com: The Kite Runner (9781594480003): Khaled Hosseini: Books@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51aC4tiXgiL.@@AMEPARAM@@51aC4tiXgiL[/ame]

and A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author, I liked The Kite Runner so much I got the next one by this author, both were very, very good, modern day facts with some history involved, but fiction, not what you think though, incredible story lines both, I thoroughly enjoyed both and highly recommend them.
