How true is that! :floorlaugh: And I even see this :waitasec: in my younger friends who are almost hitting 40 and having their first child One dear friend had a baby girl last March and even though we talked about the "every three hours" around the clock for at least the first six months, she is shocked at how exhausted she is. And how nothing else but "baby" gets done.

It's a big celebration ( of sleeping for her) when the darling sleeps for seven hours at one stretch. She said OMG how long does this go one? Told her not much longer - just a couple of years...:innocent:

My DD will be 23 next month....and sometimes I still have sleepless nights!

I just had a thought! I was reading on the lawyer thread and someone asked if JB could be sued by KC for not advising her to hold back money for taxes on the Caylee pic money. The answer was yes, he could be found liable unless he had a waiver signed saying that he wasn't representing her in that aspect. Now, here's my thought: JB probably NEVER thought KC would walk free! He probably didn't think anything like that would ever be necessary! He probably is screwed! :floorlaugh:

I guess the question I have would be: Did Casey hand over the entire $200,000.00 to Jose?

We know Jose claims he did not represent Casey in the deal with ABC when he was forced to explain how he had been paid during Casey's indigency hearing?

Also, how could an adult, which Casey was, not know they had to pay taxes? Who needs a lawyer to tell them that they have to pay taxes?

As much as I dislike Jose, I want Casey to have to pay every dime she owes back. Every dime!

I hope she does sue him. I personally do not care how the infighting starts, as long as it does.

Oh, I know! I am just waiting for the implosion of this group! They will eventually start to pick each other apart! My advice to JB would be "Be afraid! Be verrrry afraid!" Hahahaha! How bad is it that I can't wait for the carnage to begin?

I'm wondering if she even ever got to "see" the cheque - he was probably acting as her signing authority or something and just divided it up as he saw fit. She was probably "all enthralled" with him and the importance of it all at that early stage. Might be a different thing now she's had three or four years to think it over....

Apart from the $200,000 ABC paid OCA, I wonder how the $70,000 "donation" made by Todd Macaluso has to be declared?
That is a very large gift or donation to give a stranger.

Anthony initially paid for her defense with $200,000 she received from ABC News for her family photos and videos, $5,000 from a private donor and $70,000 from attorney Todd Macaluso, who was a part of the defense team until he got in trouble with the California Bar.

Anthony's attorney José Baez said she paid him nearly $90,000 from that money. The rest was used for other defense expenses.

Good question! I would think that it would have to be declared as any other income would be, or at least the amount over the gifting limit would be. I think that there are all these pesky little issues coming up now that no one anticipated having to deal with because everyone just knew that she was going to be found guilty, and all they were really trying to do was keep her from the DP and get the best sentence possible for her. JMO

ITA...IMO there was much more time and energy spent on the penalty phase of the trial then the guilt/innocence phase by the DT.
Whatever negitivity smashes into anyone who was or is involved in this womans life, I welcome with open arms.

Me, too! On one of the blogs, there was a picture of JB immediately after both sides had rested and the case was handed to the jury. He was in the hallway doing a happy dance. The question was being asked why was he so happy BEFORE the verdict was delivered? Was he just happy it was over, with no concern whatsoever for his clients fate? Or was he happy for what he thought might be coming, with speaking gigs and talking head positions? We all know that he thought this case was his golden ticket. I think he is finding out that it was a poorly made fake. JMO

IIRC, didn't he claim that he wasn't (all that conflict of interest stuff)? Wonder who did the actual negotiation if it wasn't him...TB?

I don't think she will get out of paying her taxes. She will avoid it as long as she can but eventually will be made to pay, either with a check to the IRS or some time in jail. JB making any claim, IMO, is like KC making a claim. It is, most likely, complete BS. We saw how he tried to twist and pervert the truth during this case, so his claim that he had nothing to do with the deal for the pics means nothing to me until I see outside proof that he didn't. He lies as easily as KC does. I just don't think they were worried about paying taxes because they thought she would be going to prison for a loooong time. I can see them having a an attitude like" What are they going to do? Put me in jail?" Haha! (laughing because she would already be there for the rest of her life) Along comes The Twelve, with an agenda of their own, and lets her walk scot free. A small slap on the wrist for those little lies she told and nothing for the complete disregard for her childs life. Now, she and the DT are going to have to take care of the loose ends that they left during the course of the past 3 years. Iornically, it seems that instead of being eternally grateful for the efforts given to literally save her life, KC is now mad because JB is getting more attention than her and she wants her payday or it's off with their heads! Lol! We should see some interesting things this year from this group. JMO

The IRS notice was mailed to Casey in care of JB to his office address. How would the IRS have gotten that address to use for Casey if there was not some kind of document pertaining to that ABC payment that lists his address as the contact address? I suppose the IRS could have figured it out even without the address on record from an ABC source...but the IRS is an agency that likes documentation. Everything with them must be documented somewhere. So...I tend to think ABC gave JB's address as the contact when they claimed the payment on their taxes. And I also believe the check itself was sent to Casey at JB's office address. She was in jail when that money was paid, wasn't she?

I don't think we have seen because all of this was handled in chambers, off the record, after seeking advice from an ethics attorney. Kinda back alley type stuff. I trust nothing JB said about anything, because even HHJP had to say at one point that apparently he could trust nothing coming from them. That says it all for me. When a judge calls you out like that in court, you truly have a problem with the truth. MOO

Macaluso could probably write it off as a business expense I would imagine.

Looks like they've formed a new firm (LLC).

BMG

Baez, Manto and Gonzalez. I'm not familiar with either of the other two attorneys.

Baez sure does change law partners & associates an awful lot! Seriously...in & out, come & go...

I am a bit surprised Michelle Medina isn't in practice with him. I kinda figured she would be the next to join him.

There are posts about this in the Baez Foreclosure threads...

Baez and the 2 attorney's are not strangers.
A search in Sunbiz records show they have had previous LLC's and Incorporated companies in south Florida..namely Miami

But TB worked for JB around that time...or someone else (associated with his firm) did who could have been the "negotiator". I really wish ABC would come out and give us all the details...but doubt they ever will. Not good for business.

That's why I am wondering if Casey simply handed over the $200,000.00 to Jose? How did it get from Casey to Jose? I don't think Casey simply handing over $200,000.00 would mean that she didn't have to pay taxes on it, though?

I think it works like this...

Casey is given $200,000.00 - taxes must be paid out of that $200,000.00. So whatever was left out of that $200,000.00 would be Casey's to spend. We know it would have been $132,000.00 left because she owes $68,000.00 in back taxes.

Jose, from his own admission, received a $90,000.00 retainer fee. Jose would then owe personal taxes on that $90,000.00. He would also have to pay taxes on the $70,000.00 donation? I would think?

That leaves $42,000.00 out of the $200,000.00. I think I remember Jose stating that Andrea Lyon was given $22,000.00 of that 42,000. So then that leaves $20,000.00 left.

So, we have a total of 20,000.00 plus $68,000.00 equaling $88,000.00 unaccounted for? Was it spent on her defense? Who had their hand in the cookie jar?

Does it at all excuse Casey from not paying her taxes? No. She was an adult. Adult's know they have to pay taxes. And even if someone told her not to worry about paying the taxes (with the expectation of Casey never getting out) who is really going to believe Casey? She's a convicted liar and thief?

I can't believe it takes 8-years for them to really do anything about it though. :banghead:

Macaluso's donation came from his own pocket. It was more than likely money that was earned and taxes had already been paid on it. When he donated it to Jose for Casey's defense, Jose would then owe taxes on the $70,000.00... if I am not mistaken?

You know what I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like to see? Transcripts of all of the sidebars and the en camera hearings. They were on the record, part of the record...and IIRC Jeff Ashton or SOMEBODY made the comment that they are all there. Just takes somebody with money willing to pay for the transcripts. If I were a rich man.....falalalalalalalalalala la

Interesting word "donation"...he was buying his way into the case IMPO. Who used the word donated, Macaluso or Baez?

I know we talked about passing around the hat and enlisting MM's help, but he seems to be MIA. :(
