But in the letters it was the bra up and the flashlight stories with vague recollections of George maybe? Nothing at all like the O/S statements.
Thank heavens George didn't manage to kill himself - can you imagine the stories FCA and Baez would have told then? :banghead:
Yes ... the story must have been in its beginning stage at that point.
A major theme in the book (I borrowed it -- did not buy it!!) and various JB interviews was that he went back through the discovery to see if he could disprove FCA's story. I think it's much more likely he went back through the discovery to see what he could use to bolster it and, voila, the infamous letter!
I've tried to figure out when JB (or someone else) came up with the GA abuse story. The first mention in the book was based on a conversation JB had at the A family home the night before he was to pick her up from jail (first bond). CA said that FCA resented her. JB asked her to elaborate. CA relayed the old "the nurses gave Caylee to me first" story. JB then writes:
I said to her, "I hate to say this, Cindy, but it would have to be something much deeper, a scar much deeper than that. I'm not saying this happened, George, but take for example if you were sexually abusing her. That would be something where she would be afraid and not want to have you around the child. If that happened, I could see a mother going to these extremes."
I wasn't accusing him. I was just throwing it out as a hypothetical about why a mother might act the way Casey was acting.
As soon as I said that, there was a deafening silence in the room. No one moved. Everyone stayed very quiet. I immediately noticed it. I thought, Waaaaaiit a minute here. I parked that in the back of my mind, and I would return to it later, but I will never forget the day I said that and the reaction I got. They all sat there very quietly. It was just very weird.

I think a similar conversation happened ... but between JB and FCA .... and a new lie was born.
